Just got my reserved copy from my local GameStop o'er at the University Mall. Oh Ghost Recon, how I have longed for you.
The game is pretty faithful to Ghost Recon with the tactical map and the tactical squad-based action. I like the much welcomed addition of iron-sights into the series. The emphasis on the Crosscom technology gives the game an slightly more immersive feel; there's now an actually good reason why you have a bunch of numbers and pictures floating in front of your eyeballs. Being able to see your actual body in-game also helps the immersive factor. I'm liking that trend in first person shooters: first FEAR and now GRAW.
One thing I miss from the old Ghost Recon is the division of 6 men into teams Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie. It gets rather annoying having to repeat the same commands for my assault and fire support guys instead of simply placing them as a separate fireteam and commanding them as a cohesive element.
The game is a lot more forgiving compared to the original Ghost Recon. Enemies were super accurate back then and it honestly didn't feel like you were wearing armor at all. GRAW probably has it so instead of one or two shots killing ya, it takes five to seven hits.
Multiplayer is adequate. However, I had problems logging in to the GameSpy master server. For some odd reason, if you use TAB or exit out of a password or user name box using the mouse, the game gets angry and claims you used over 30 characters for your password/user name; this doesn't happen if you press ENTER.
I only played a few rounds of Domination. I noticed that the netcode is really laggy as of this moment. Sometimes it took over numerous shots to down an opponent; my opponents alternately complained that it took over ten shots to take me down.
I had initial performance issues with this game. When I first installed it, the game set my auto-detect setting to medium. I loaded up the game to watch a frickin' slideshow. I tried lowering all setting to low and I still got said slideshow. It wasn't until I updated my video card drivers that the game significantly improved in performance on medium settings.
