Filetype assosciations are very minor. You know how when you double-click a video file, it automatically opens Windows Media Player? That's because that format is assosciated with Windows Media Player.

If you want to open every image file you get with GIMP, select all of them. That way, when you, say, open a JPEG to edit, it'll automatically load up GIMP with that image.

a couple days a-go when I did that, I saved something on GIMP, & it said "Invalid File type"

you've got to put in the file type when you save something otherwise it won't work

Did you install GTK then the actual GIMP program? I think you need to install the GTK before GIMP
