Give this a thought

While humans not being able to understand pokemon speech is a part of them trying to understand the creatures, would it be a good thing if the dubbers give us subtitles or give us scenes with it just being pokemon that lets us understand what they're saying to each other?

I am sort of tired and bored with Meowth always translating everything, and I think they tried it once in "Pikachu's Vacation", didn't they?

they tried it on Island of giant pokemon thingy thing episode, it was weird but neat.

someone mentioned how they could actually develop their personalities instead of being one dimmensional in a thread of "what if pikachu talked" i made,

while it would be interesting I kind of like the aspect of imagining what they are saying and not understanding, since the other people don't as well why should I understand the mystery of their 'doings', which is too big for us to understand

but i'm getting to philosophical there ;p

Y'know I thought that we got to learn a little more about the Pokemon's personalities in "The Island of Giant Pokemon", Squirtle and Bulbasaur particularly. Incidentally, I'd say that was one of my top 5 favorite episodes ever. However, there should not be subtitles in every episode. But I would love just another one-shot like that. We seriously need an episode that doesn't focus on the trainers as much-just the Pokemon. There should have been subtitles in "A Hot Water Battle" and maybe 1 or 2 of the Pikachu shorts.

The Island of Giant Pokemon was definitely a great episode but for 99% of every other episode subtitles are unnecessary. It's generally pretty obvious that most of the time the Pokemon are saying pretty basic, general, uninteresting things.

I would love to see an episode similar to The Island of Giant Pokemon though, it really gave us some good insight into the different characters, and was just generally a great episode.

There's no point when Nyarth is just gonna translate anyways. It would be an unnecessary edit.

It would be kool for another one off episode but not for every episode

Do you think that subtitles/translators will occur in future movies? I sure hope so. ;025;

"Island of the Giant Pokemon", eh? I was like six years old the last time I saw that episode.

I agree somewhat. But Pikachu wouldn't need them:p All us diehard Pokemaniacs - and we're basically the only ones who watch it anymore - can already speak Pikachu by now. J/k.

That's true about not needing them if Meowth translates. That would just drive us crazy with boringness. And if Meowth DIDN'T translate, yet the humans responded, we'd all be like, "How'd they know what they said?" And we all know we can't put it past them to make a plot hole like that.

However, in Pokemon-only scenes, it would work.

Were the subtitles in the Japanese version of "Island Of The Giant Pokemon?"
Yes, they were. That's the only reason why they showed the subtitles; because it was in the original version. So they had to use a clean version of the episode and use English subtitles for the episode.

It's also the reason why it's the only episode to do it.

I totally know what you mean! The anime is way too much about the trainers now. I think now the show should be called "pokemon trainers" instead of "pokemon" because that's what it's more about.

In the earlier episodes, the pokemon were more thought of. Remember in Ash catches a pokemon where Ash actually kept his caterpie outside the ball? Now that Ash has three human companions, he no longer needs the pokemon to talk to and just crams the pokemon into a ball and forgets their existence.

I thought it would be cool to have a movie where it was the pokemon's point of view, not Ash's. The pokemon would be made understandable to the viewers, but not to the human characters. It would be neat to start out the movie like an ordinary episode, with a team rocket attack or something and show what the pokemon are thinking in the usual episodes (I'd love it if they put in pikachu questioning why he's always the one who Jessie and James try to capture).

I agree but according to Edward Elric "subbing" it into English is expensive, and giving them human "voices" just doesnt sound right. What would Pikachu sound like? It could end Pikashipping. ;025;

how? I don't see why.

Are you afraid that if what pikachu said wasn't left to the imagination, then it would be obvious that pikashipping does not exist, then remember that that has never stopped Poke shipping or Advance shipping. Misty and May are much easier to understand (those ships actually are much more far fetched than people say they are).

So hot he's on fire.
I don't think so. :/ Human interaction is a lot better, imo. While they could interact with their pokemon a bit more, having JUST Pokemon would piss me off. <3

God, I`m amazed I remember this! Jamses magikarp got toxicated or somethin and turned into a gyarados, it did a dragon dance type thing, and all the little pokemon had a special white caption on the bottom of the screen. They had too, or this would be the episode. :p

Pika pika?

I don't think that the regular episodes (aside from "Island of the Giant Pokémon") need subtitles for the Pokémon dialogue, but it'd be nice if the Pikachu shorts had some kind of translation. It'd allow for more of a plot and less padding.

Jetx

hooray, it's Jetx!
Though it would be interesting in a few episodes, I don't think they should do it with many of them though. It would be a bit annoying.
