Gligar's Island (PG-13) RP Thread

VampirateMace

Internet Overlord
Yesterday evening you were aboard the Finneon when it suddenly got caught in storm and lost at sea. Unable to locate the mainland due to equipment failures and nasty weather, the crew decided to make for an uninhabited island where the ship was caught in the rocky lagoon. Much of the their luggage was lost, but the crew and passengers managed to wade ashore.

After seeing a gligar in the distance, our group hunkered down for the night at the edge of the jungle in front of the lagoon (Treeline A):

Bunny (ranger)
Pokemon: Petra (Meowth), Amethyst (Sableye)
Location: Treeline A > Jungle A

Bunny groaned, gazing out at the ocean. Last night had been pretty brutal. She was damp and scratched up, in a strange place, and therefore did not get much sleep. At least this far south it had not been too cold. But the weather now at sunrise was bright and clear, with just a few wispy clouds, no hint of the typhoon that had wrecked their boat. The water was deep blue, with only slight ripples.

She looked around, the island showed more signs of the storm then the sky or sea. Branches were littering the nearby forest floor, and a line of debris had washed up on the beach.

The Meowth in her lap looked up at her, it did not look happy at all, though it was not as panicked as it had been last night. Bunny would have returned her to her pokeball, except for that floated away last night, along with most of her other pokemon. Bunny grimaced, the thought of her other two pokemon endlessly adrift at sea was not pleasant. At least they were comfortable inside their pokeballs. Bunny sighed, “Well Petra. . . I guess we ought to see who we have.”

She helped the Meowth onto her shoulder and stood up, releasing the other pokemon. Red light shot out forming into a bipedal creature. Only two pokemon that could be. The energy solidified into a dark purple creature, which looked around slowly and turned to her. Amethyst, her Sableye. Bunny felt guilt for hoping it would be Charmeleon. While the temperature was still warm enough, drying out by a fire sounded pretty good about now. Looks like she'd have to make one by hand, assuming nobody else had a fire pokemon.

She turned, addressing anyone who was awake softly, “We're going to go get some firewood, and see if we can spot any food or water sources. Come on Amethyst, I need you to come help me cut some wood.”

“Saaa?” remarked Amethyst still looking around, as Bunny headed into the jungle.

(Feel free to invite yourselves along.)

André groaned, sat up and stretched his arms out. He had just woken up from the worst sleep he had ever gotten in his life. When he had decided to take a vacation to the Alola region, he had been expecting to be sleeping in a five-star hotel. Not on the dirty floor. He was a famous movie star after all, he was not accustomed to sleeping on the floor like a wild Pokemon. The only good thing about this whole situation was that he was still alive. Surely someone would realize he was missing, and send out a search party, right? In the meantime, he was still stuck here. The young movie star took out the two pokeballs he managed to save, and released the Pokemon inside.

In a flash of light, his Clefairy and Sylveon appeared in front of him. Both Pokemon looked chipper as can be. André recalled them when their vessel started to go down. They both slept inside a Pokeball, and neither of them had any idea what was going on.

The smiling faces of his adorable Pokemon did make him smile, at least for a little bit. "I am glad at least you two are happy." He said with a sigh. He frowned again when he remembered that his other Pokemon had been washed away with the rest of his things. Who knew if he would ever see them again. He pulled out a compact mirror, and comb from his pocket, opened the mirror, took off his pink beret, and started combing his hair. After this ordeal, André was a mess, and tried to do what little he could to look at least a little presentable. Not that it mattered much right now, being stranded and all, but it was a habbit, and the only thing he really had control of at this point.

“We're going to go get some firewood, and see if we can spot any food or water sources." Said one of the female passengers, who dressed in a ranger uniform.

André put his mirror and comb away, and put his beret back on. "Mademoiselle, I do not think we need the firewood. Jolie, use flamethrower." He commanded his Clefairy, pointing to an empty spot.

"Clefairy!" The pink Fairy type exclaimed as she fired a stream of fire from her finger at the spot André had pointed to. At that moment, André was grateful he had taught her that move for a movie role. There was now a fairly large fire burning in the section André had pointed to.

"Voilà! Problem solved!" André said with a confident grin. Until he noticed how big the fire was, and the fact it was spreading. "Oh mon Dieu!" He exclaimed as he rubbed the back of his head nervously. "Does anyone have a Water type?"

(OOC: I'm aware that was probably stupid. André doesn't really have any experience with camping. :p)

Kite Crawford AKA River [Sailor]
Pokemon: Neptune the Vaporeon, Ruffles the Braviary.
Treeline A

Kite was up early that day, a strange feeling of exhilaration having settled over his entire being. Here, finally, his life was about to get interesting again. Marooned on a deserted island, with a bunch of people with personality and a sheltered upbringing - it sounded like a perfect set up for a novel of sorts. There was definitely potential there.

When he awoke, the sun had barely risen, and the other members of the stranded party were still asleep. He had taken inventory immediately, and found that he had, along with both of his Pokeballs and clothing, a rope, a broken glass bottle, and a packet of cigars. The rope might prove to be useful, but the cigars were useless without a lighter (using a fire-type Pokemon would be too dangerous), and the glass bottle, while it might be useable as a stabbing weapon, was probably more harm than it was worth.

Nothing all too useful, huh.

Sighing contentedly, he popped both of his Pokemon out of their Pokeballs. They had been cooped up in there long enough. Ruffles looked around him, somewhat confused, then settled down contentedly on a particularly big piece of driftwood and fell asleep on the spot. Perhaps he was tired after all that - anyone would be. Neptune, however, was prancing around like she had just had a bit too much caffeine, giving the area around the camp a thorough check for anything to play with. When she was done, she bounded back to Kite’s side and leapt onto his head. She wasn’t all that heavy, so Kite let her stay there.

He had taken off his overcoat and left it hanging on a tree in an attempt to dry it out, but he knew it would still be soaking wet. That wasn’t a problem - he was used to soggy clothes. It came with his job and upbringing. He quickly glanced at the sky in order to see if there could potentially be another storm on the way, but it was clear. Since there seemed to be no danger, the natural first step was to find shelter. Everything else would come after. Food shouldn’t be a problem - the jungle seemed pretty lush, so there should be plenty of fruit around. Any streams would have been significantly swelled by last night’s rain, so water wasn’t a huge concern either. His instinct, honed from years buried in fiction, told him that help would probably not be arriving soon.

Nobody else was up yet, so Kite lay himself down on the sandy ground, his libs splayed out like some sort of starfish. He stared into the slowly brightening sky, and began to do what he did so often - think about the past, about a particular girl with a red scarf. After all, it wasn’t like there was a lot he had to do.

-~-~-

Everybody else woke up in time, and Kite soon found himself having to deal with six people - not exactly his strong suit. Grimacing a little, he sat himself far away from where the others had been sleeping, on the same blank of driftwood Ruffles was slumped on, Neptune still on his head, like some sort of hat.

The ranger girl, who ought to have some experience in surviving in the wilderness, was the first to address the group. “We're going to go get some firewood,” she said, softly, as if she was afraid to disturb everyone, “And see if we can spot any food or water sources. Come on Amethyst, I need you to come help me cut some wood.” The ‘Amethyst’ she was talking about was a Sableye, who looked around whilst the girl headed into the jungle.

Kite sighed. By now, their predicament ought to have been setting into the heads of the overly-privileged passengers of the boat he helped run. He hoped that they didn’t have a spoilt brat amongst them, but the fact that André was sitting there with a mirror and combing his hair didn’t exactly help to alleviate that fear. He recognised André from a few films Val had taken him to see a long time ago. He hadn’t exactly liked the films, nor did he like the rolls their resident movie star usually played, but the guy was pretty easily recognisable.

"Mademoiselle, I do not think we need the firewood. Jolie, use flamethrower." André said, pointing at an empty spot in the little alcove they had found themselves in.

"Clefairy!" The pink Fairy type exclaimed as she fired a stream of fire from her finger at the spot André had pointed to, causing a small fire to quickly erupt. Needless to say, the small fire quickly became a much bigger one, and then became an even bigger one. Kite sighed, like a caretaker who was put in charge of a particularly insolent brat - he had been wrong to expect anything else out of someone used to that much fame. Overconfidence, exaggerated ‘gentlemanliness’ and the use of french words, and a patent lack of knowledge about how things actually worked. Maybe he was being too harsh, but until something happened to prove him wrong, Kite would stick with that assessment.

"Voilà! Problem solved!" Andre said, completely unaware of the fact that he may have just started a forest fire. That fact was quickly shoved in his face when he turned to find that the fire he had started was rapidly growing. He seemed somewhat embarrassed, which was good. At least he saw that what he had done was a problem - Kite was familiar with the type of spoilt rich-kid who thought they could do no wrong, and he would not care to have to deal with one of those in this current situation. "Oh mon Dieu! Does anyone have a water type?”

Kite sighed again, closing his eyes. His mouth twitched slightly in an expression that was half-grin and half-grimace, expressing both amusement and exasperation. This was certainly shaping up to be quite the narrative, and he could only expect for it to improve. He felt a pleasant exhilaration overcome him, like he so often felt when playing video games. It was a sensation that he quite liked.

“Neptune,” he said, standing up and moving to give his overcoat an exaggerated flick, only to remember that he had hung it up to dry earlier. Unfazed, he nodded at the fire and gave his command. “Douse it with the waters of the holy spirit! The demon flames of the apocalypse shall spread no more!”

Neptune, surprised by her trainer’s sudden movement, slipped off of his head and fell onto the floor. Luckily, she had become used interpreting to his occasionally over-exaggerated and nonsensical commands, and complied quickly. She quickly rolled onto her feet and let out a loud cry of ‘Vee!’, before blasting a pulse of water at the spreading flames. The attack was strong, and put out the majority of the fire in one go, leaving only a small one smouldering in the spot that had been its centre.

Kite grimaced, letting out a small click of displeasure. While he had done good in suppressing his somewhat odd tendencies as he matured and travelled, they occasionally resurfaced in moments of overexcitement. Neptune bounded back to his side, her head tilted to the side, and her tail waving back and forth in an irregular rhythm, as if to say: ’ Dammit, you did it again. What did I tell you about stopping this nonsense?”

(OOC: Yay, long post! Hopefully you don't mind having the fire put out that quickly.)

Treeline A

"Something tells me this wasn't a dream," Legna groaned as he started to wake up and get himself from being propped up on Chromeitheus, his Metagross, it had seemed the rest of the people had come to and woken up before him. "Looks like we're tardy Chromeitheus, let's meet up with the rest of the folks." He added as he gave his Metagross a reassuring pat on the head. Legna then gave a sharp whistle towards the trees where his Crobat had taken refuge over the night to call him.

"Cro, bhat," the Pokémon sleepily responded as it came flying out and joined up with Legna and Chromeitheus, "Glad to see you had gotten some sleep Nosferatu, we've got a lot to work on today." Legna responded as he looked at the shipwreck.

The Finneon was practically derelict and would take quite a while to repair, especially with the group on hand, it had seemed that only the captain and skipper would have any form of knowledge on how to get the ship back to a seaworthy state. With a brief sigh and a quick brush of his hand through his hair, Legna went to meet up with the rest of the group.

"'Morning everyone, I hope everyone managed to have at least a moderately decent night," Legna said as he walked up to the group, to which he noticed the scorched ground, "Was there a fire?" he added with curiosity.

Legna then took a look at the rest of his surroundings to get at least some kind of bearing on the island, he then turned back to look at the ship, and then came to an idea, "Chromeitheus, Nosferatu," He said as he turned back to look at the two, "before anything we need to build some form of shelter," to which he turned back to the group, "Does anyone have any ideas?"

Before anyone could react, Chromeitheus made a quick grunt and started to head off to the Jungle.

"Chromeitheus," Legna began as he rolled his eyes, "Come back here, we don't know the island and at least you and Nosferatu need to stick together,"

Bunny stopped short and turned around hearing a reply from behind her. It as that cute movie star, she'd been kind of excited to see him on the boat, but he obviously knew nothing about survival scenarios, as he commented that they didn't need fire wood, before setting the brush around them on fire with his pokemon. Amethyst ran behind Bunny in terror. Luckily, the oddly dramatic ship-hand had a Vaporeon which was able to put it out.

“What were you thinking?” sighed Bunny softly. Even if you use a pokemon to start your fire, you still had to think about what you were doing.

One of the other passengers approached, asking if there had been a fire and then assessing that he thought shelter was the first priority. Where had he been? Those flames were huge. And, well, she turned to Legna, “Actually shelter is generally fourth priority as far as survival necessities go; fresh water, fire, food, shelter. But we should be able to accomplish all four in no time if we work together though. You can probably get a pretty good hut or tent going for us from all these palm fronds. . . Someone else should go look for food.”

She turned back to the woods and her pokemon, “Alright, let's go guys.”

The lush jungle was cooler then the beach had been, sheltered by the large leaves of the tropical trees. Ahead of her she could see Taillow taking off in a panic when they saw a human and unfamiliar pokemon invading their territory. She started collecting up branches right away, seeing as they were down all over the island due to the storm. They were damp, but once they took them back to the beach, they could dry them out under the tropical sun. Petra was sniffing around, and Amethyst kept close to her.

A Grubbin crept by on a bent over palm tree. Bunny smiled, this jungle was full of life. The storm wasn't going to change that. Soon after she came across a nice large branch, which she ordered Amethyst to cut and between the three of them they had about all the firewood they could carry.

“Actually shelter is generally fourth priority as far as survival necessities go; fresh water, fire, food, shelter. But we should be able to accomplish all four in no time if we work together though." A young woman corrected Legna as she turned to head back to the jungle as she had previously been heading to.
"You can probably get a pretty good hut or tent going for us from all these palm fronds. . . Someone else should go look for food.” she continued.

Legna then put his arm to a rather acute angle with his index finger extended towards the direction of the young lady,

"And this ladies and gentlemen! is EXACTLY why you listen to rangers, if you would have listened to me, we'd be up a creek, figuratively because no one would have gone to the creek!" He exclaimed as he readjusted his sunglasses in a slightly cocky fashion, "Thank you Buns," He added as he turned to walk after Chromeitheus and Nosferatu, who were already heading off to the jungle to obtain supplies.

'I knew that,' Legna thought to himself as he almost tripped in the uneven sand.

Location: Treeline A > Jungle A

The shade was a nice change of pace compared to the beach as Legna followed behind his Metagross, who was carelessly trampling the flora in the area.

"Hey buddy, take it easy man, we just need to get enough thatching going to make some rudimentary housings for everyone, we're not trying to level the entire island." Legna said jokingly as he walked beside Chromeitheus and gave the Steel type a pat on the left foreleg.

"Met... Ta... Metagross." Chromeitheus shuddered as it came to a stop.

Legna then took a step back, knowing what the Metagross was about to do, and just then, the Iron Leg Pokémon started to glow a light blue and started bending the tops of the trees, dragging them towards him, to which - Nosferatu began flying quickly and nipping at the base of the leaves, severing them from the rest of the trees and knocking them down to the ground.

"Good job guys, now..." Legna said and then looked around, "Who... actually knows how to thatch these things together?" he added as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

Legna then sat down on a medium sized rock to think, "We did something like this back around Fortree... C'mon Legna, think dang it...." He muttered, mechanical hand on his forehead.

The attempt to recollect his thoughts were interrupted by a small creature wriggling next to his left hand, quickly jerking his hand away to prevent any possible attacks, he looked down to see what it was; a small orange Pokémon that he was rather familiar with; a Paras.

"Heh," Legna chuckled as he attempted to pick up the small creature, "You're a cutie, and you don't seem to be too scared of humans are you?" He added as he picked up the apparently calm Paras.

"Trrr trr, Parra." The little Pokémon chattered happily as it crawled up Legna's arm, and proceeded to pinch Legna in the shoulder lightly.

"Pinch it together!" Legna exclaimed, picking up the Paras again, " Lil buddy you're a genius!" He said as the little Paras closed its eyes and gurgled happily.

Legna then put the Paras on the ground and then started to stack the leaves on Chromeitheus, after the leaves were stacked on the back of the Metagross, they started to head back to the beach.

André's attempt to be helpful was met with disapproval from the others, particularly the ranger. The young movie star just shrugged it off. He had better things to do than sleep on the ground, what would he know about starting campfires? The blue haired sailor boy put out the fire with his Vaporeon before it could grow to be something dangerous. He was rather theatrical about it, which André actually enjoyed.

One of the other passengers approached, asking if there had been a fire, which it was rather obvious that there was. Where had he been? He then stated that shelter was the first priority. André shook his head. Their first priority should be trying to get off this island. He didn't want to spend any more time camping than he had to.

The Ranger responded with answer that sounded like she knew what she was talking about. “Actually shelter is generally fourth priority as far as survival necessities go; fresh water, fire, food, shelter. But we should be able to accomplish all four in no time if we work together though. You can probably get a pretty good hut or tent going for us from all these palm fronds. . . Someone else should go look for food.” And with that, she turned around and went into the woods. The other gentleman following suit.

This left André alone with the blue haired sailor boy. André thought he was rather cute with his bright blue hair, and matching big eyes. The young movie star picked up Jolie. gestured for Jeanne to follow him, and walked up to the sailor. "Is no one concerned with trying to get out of here?" André asked with a sigh. "Well, I suppose you and I are going to have to find food, non?" André cringed at the thought. The idea of eating berries off the dirty ground was absolutely disgusting. "Ugh, I cannot do that alone. I might pick up something poison!"

(OOC: I suppose André fulfils the role of the second rich person and a movie star. He still would have appreciated having another spoiled rich person in the group who understands his situation.)

Kite Crawford AKA River [Sailor]
Pokemon: Neptune the Vaporeon, Ruffles the Braviary.
Treeline A

Kite sighed and sat back down, his brow furrowed. He had scarcely been on the island for a day, and it had already become readily apparent that at least one of his party knew next to nothing about survival. Not that that wasn't to be expected - although Andre had probably starred in some sort of adventure film, there was no way someone as sheltered as he was would be used to this kind of environment. Hopefully, the other passengers would be more educated in such matters. While he himself wasn't a survival expert, he had grown up in a not-quite-privileged family who lived next to a rather temperamental sea, so he knew that he could at least weather the harsh conditions while getting the boat fixed.

As if to put his doubts at rest, another man showed up, and promptly asked, with a completely straight face, "Was there a fire?"

Noooooo, there wasn't a fire. Kite thought, rolling his eyes. It was just that all the grass in the general area was charred and there were still some sparks on the ground. No fire at all. Of course, he didn't actually give voice to his thoughts, and instead chose to keep his mouth shut, observing from the distance as the others sorted everything out. He was no leader, had no real experience in survival, and he knew it. If he got involved now, all that would happen was that he would get in the way of those who actually knew what they were doing.

After a small disagreement over what should be the first step (which was quickly resolved), the Ranger girl - the most valuable member of their party by the looks of it, given her survival training - disappeared into the forest, probably to look for some fresh water source, or maybe some firewood. The man from earlier had also disappeared, going to do who-knows-what, leaving him alone with Andre in the clearing. Unfortunate. The guy seemed to be the type who got easily lonely, and the last thing he wanted was for the movie star to try and get all friendly with him. After all, Andre had always had a reputation of being indiscriminate with his flirting, and was probably attracted to both sexes.

At least, that was what she had told him. The memory of the two of them sitting in an empty movie theatre discussing their favourite shows was painfully clear in his mind, and he winced slightly. A little voice in the back of his mind told him that his obsession with her was unnatural, and unhealthy. He ignored it, and chose to pet Neptune instead, his left hand pulling absent-mindedly at his long hair as he did so. Ruffles was still asleep, and he didn't want to wake the bird.

His suspicions were confirmed when the movie star picked up his Clefairy and walked over. "Is no one concerned with trying to get out of here?" Andre asked, sighing in a manner that Kite thought to be needlessly pretentious. Maybe it came with being an actor. He didn't respond - there was no need to respond to such a naive question. Any fool could see that it would be a long time - at least several days - before they had any chance at fixing the boat, and they would have to survive until then. It was a pretty good set-up for some mystery novel. A closed circle, without contact with the outside world. Not at all uninteresting. Looks like when he found her, he would have a nice story to tell, at the very least.

"Well, I suppose you and I are going to have to find food, non?" Andre continued, and Kite saw that he was cringing slightly, as if the thought disturbed him. It made sense - he was a movie star, probably spoilt beyond belief. It was natural that he would find the idea of eating berries off the ground disgusting. It was almost as if he was deliberately putting on a posh air. "Ugh, I cannot do that alone. I might pick up something poisonous!"

Kite let out a short, sharp, and almost contemptuous laugh. He had always hated these types of rich people, the ones that looked down on everyone else. The guy hadn't even bothered to ask his name - was he really that insignificant to him? It must be nice, constantly wallowing in the delusion-inducing swamp of the mindless adoration bestowed upon a star by the masses, having your self-confidence and ego boosted on a daily basis by star-struck idiots asking for autographs. He himself had no need for such pointless pleasures, especially if it made him unable to look at other people as equals. Unfortunately, he was stuck with the guy for now, and there was no real way out of it.

"Very well then." he smirked, standing up and moving to slip his hands into the pockets of his overcoat, only to remember it was still drying. Not missing a beat, he changed the course of the action so that his right hand ended up dramatically covering his right eye. "Now, my dear comrade, we must begin our search for the life-giving fruits bestowed upon us by the god of this island in order to stave off the demons of starvation and dehydration. Let us be off - a great journey awaits us!"

Neptune bounced onto his head, her tail wagging excitedly. Without waiting to see if Andre was following, Kite turned dramatically and walked towards the forest, mentally chastising himself for getting carried away again.

(OOC: Whew, finally got post up... it took longer than I expected.)

*EVENT* (Shoreline A): A battered suitcase has washed ashore. But it doesn't look like it belongs to anyone in the group.

Bunny (ranger)
Pokemon: Petra (Meowth), Amethyst (Sableye)
Location: Jungle A > Treeline A/Beach A

Bunny wasn't super sure how pleasant these branches would be to burn, some plants smelled bad or smoked a lot. . . the wet stuff would smoke a lot until they could get it dried out some more. . . but it would serve it's purpose for now. They couldn't afford to be picky about anything just yet.

She carried her load awkwardly back towards the beach, with her pokemon just behind her. Reemerging from the treeline, it was easy to spot their previous night's camp, despite the fact that most the group had wandered off into the woods, by the fact that it was charred all around.

She moved out a ways to get away from the combustible brush, depositing her firewood in the sun dried sand. They didn't really need a fire pit here, but it would be kind of nice, and it would be a lot easier to simply wait for someone with a pokemon that knew a fire to return then starting it by hand.

She started to dig out a shallow hole, instructing Petra and Amethyst, “Go get some nice big rocks.”

Then she took out her multi-tool and used the blade to shave a nice big pile of wood chips off one of the drier branch into the pit, over which she made a tent of smaller branches, that should catch fire properly. It'll smoke a bit more then she'd like, but it should get a decent fire started. Once they had a good fire going probably best not to let it go out. That way it would always be there when they needed it, and they could have some materials that smoked a lot ready if they got the opportunity to signal for rescue.

Meanwhile her pokemon were hauling rocks of all sizes up and piling them around the pit. They'd done this with her before, but still didn't seem to understand that pebbles and boulders weren't quite as useful for this purpose as nice large rocks, but that would be easy enough to tidy up.

Hopefully the others were having success in finding shelter, food, and water.
