The stat difference is too great (to put it lightly), and the TMs are all different, there are pokeballs you cant get in 3rd gen, same with berrys (differnt names), theres just too much difference.

No you can't it's sad i know but they are old games just can't work well with the new ones that is why d/p is able to trade with the gba games to stop the pokemon fans from re-traing there teams and such.
