Gold & Silver: A live-action Pokemon movie script

Before the release of Detective Pikachu, the idea for a live-action Pokemon movie simmered away in my mind for years, so I thought I'd try and put my ideas into words. I've posted this fic in a few subreddits and now I'm posting it in Serebii as I felt it would be best appreciated here.

I was inspired by movies such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and also The Secret of NIHM. Like those movies, I wanted to make something that feels truly magical, a fairy-tale that can be enjoyed by fans and non-fans alike.

And because I wrote it to appeal to non-fans as well, the story follows original human characters and the narrative begins in an original region with no Pokemon, before moving into Johto.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

    ACT 1 (part 1)

    EXT. IBEX FOREST - DAY

Amidst a dense wood, CELEBI, a small, fairy-like Pokemon with
a head shaped like an onion, picks the cherries from an
unusually large, cherry blossom tree. She finds one she's
satisfied with and plants it in a nearby mound of dirt.

It glows, sparks fly around it as a tree sapling sprouts out
    of the ground.

She hears splashing and hides behind another tree. She spots
three small Pokemon, the fire rodent, CYNDAQUIL, the bipedal
crocodile, TOTODILE and the tiny sauropod, CHIKORITA, who has
a leaf growing out of her head.

They try to fight off the FIVE MURKROWS chasing them, large
crows with plumage on their crowns resembling witch hats.

Their efforts are in vain, they are cornered by the
aggressors, their backs against Celebi's cherry blossom.

DARLENE WEAVER (20s), a girl wielding an electric cattle
prod, approaches from behind the Murkrows.

    DARLENE
FOUND YOU. Aww, don't be scared, we
can still make a great team. Or I
can find you each a cage that's
just the right size, your choice.
Her WEAVILE, a bipedal cat-weasel with sickle-like claws,
    closes in on them.

Celebi flutters around the confrontation and behind Darlene.
Her antenna GLOWS, she WAVES HER ARMS.

In an arch shaped recess in the cherry blossom, a vertical
crack of light SPLITS IT IN HALF. The halves open like doors.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    What the heck?
Darlene and the other Pokemon stare.

On the other side of the doors, several points from time and
space flicker like TV channels changing on the other side.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    No way... This isn't real...
Celebi stops the “changing channels”, focusing on one place
that resembles a coastal town viewed from a hill.

Celebi SWOOPS DOWN, through Darlene's legs, toward Chikorita,
Cyndaquil and Totodile. She gives them a hard SHOVE.

The three Pokemon TUMBLE through to the other side, Celebi
    following them.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    Celebi?

Celebi turns to face Darlene, smiles, winks, waves her arm.
    The doors SHUT.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    Oh no you don't!

Darlene runs to the closing doors and LEAPS FORWARD. The
doors SLAM shut, the cattle prod wedged in the gap.

Through the gap, Darlene sees the four Pokemon move out of
view. She stands, she tries to open the doors, no success.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
No! Those are MY Pokemon, give them
    back NOW!
She hears a ringing sound; her phone. She takes it out her
    pocket and answers.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
GOOD news, Felix, I need GOOD news.
    Right now!

FELIX KNAPP (20s) replies on the phone.

    FELIX
    (From the phone)
I've picked up the new recruits,
we're heading back to Ibex forest.
Is that good news to you?

    DARLENE
    You got Snorlax with you?

    FELIX
    Yeah, why?

    DARLENE
I'm gonna need some muscle. Get
here as fast as humanly possible.
    EXT. TURNER TOWN - DAY

From atop the cliff the four Pokemon look at bright,
colourful buildings and boats down below. The hear distant
talking, coming from the edge of the cliff. They approach and
see two children, eavesdropping from behind a bush.

CHRISTOPHER CORWIN and ALMA HARPER, both 10, sit on the
cliffs edge facing an island far across the sea, Alma staring
with binoculars, Christopher with a book in his lap.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (Flicking through pages)
    C is for...Chansey...Charmander...
He turns to a page with Celebi on it

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Aha! Here it is, Celebi. This is
what I saw, just along the coast on
the far-left part of the island.

    ALMA
No, come on, you said you'd do this
    seriously this time.

    CHRISTOPHER
I am being serious, I saw a Celebi.

    ALMA
    (Pointing at the book)
Look, it says here that Celebi only
    exists in folklore, meaning it's
not real, meaning you are wrong.

    CHRISTOPHER
Lots of Pokemon were assumed to be
    folklore-only before they were
    discovered. Who cares what some
plonker went and wrote in a book
about what is and isn't folklore?

    ALMA
Hey! My grandma had this book. It’s
    a very special book.

    CHRISTOPHER
My grandma had type 2 diabetes.
    It’s a very special diabetes.
The wind blows, the page is torn out and carried off. Celebi
flies up, grabs it and flies over to the kids.

Christopher and Alma stand up from the cliffs edge, backing
    away, silent.

They hear footsteps from behind, they turn and see the other
    three Pokemon approaching.

Celebi approaches Alma and hands her the missing page. Alma
reaches out and takes the page. She reads it.

On the page is Celebi's picture, below are the words "Celebi,
    the time travelling Pokemon".

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Let me hear it.

    ALMA
    No.

    CHRISTOPHER
Come on, you have to say it.

    ALMA
    This situation doesn't count, I
    wasn't prepared.

    CHRISTOPHER
Doesn't matter, you know the rules.

    ALMA
    (sighs)
    You were right Christopher.
He takes out a small whiteboard, split in half, one half
labeled Alma, the other Christopher, each scattered with
tally marks. He adds a tally mark on his side.

    CHRISTOPHER
Right, now that that's out the way,
what the bloomin heck is going on?
What are Pokemon doing in the
Anglis region. HOW did they get to
    the Anglis region?

    (Pointing to the island)
You're meant to be over there, in
    the Johto region.

    ALMA
    (Reading Celebi's page)
    "Uses enchanted trees as gates
through space and time". That's it!

    (To Celebi)
You used the tree as a portal to
    get here didn't you?
Celebi nods, blows a kiss, then takes off.

    CHRISTOPHER
Hey, come back! You can't just dump
a bunch of deadly creatures from a
    forbidden land in our laps.

    ALMA
    Christopher, manners.
    (To the three Pokemon)
My name is Alma, and this is
    Christopher. And that down there...

    (Gestures to the town)
Is Turner Town, my home. Wanna have
    a closer look?
    EXT. TURNER TOWN - DAY

Alma and Christopher walk through the vibrant streets of
Turner Town, carrying backpacks. People walk past and quietly
go about their lives, not a Pokemon in sight, except for the
ones poking their heads out the backpacks, Chikorita out of
Alma's, Totodile and Cyndaquil out of Christopher's.

    ALMA
Do you think they like chocolate? I
was thinking of starting with the
chocolate store down the road. Then
we can go to that restaurant that
does fish and chips, but really
    classy fish and chips. Thoughts?

    CHRISTOPHER
    I can't believe we're doing this.
We were already pushing it when we
left your house. If your parents
get back and see tiny, super-
    powered animals destroying their
    furniture, we're not gonna be
allowed to see each other no more.

    ALMA
Ugh, buzzkill! Oh, I forgot about
the pier, we should do that first.

    CHRISTOPHER
It doesn't bother you that we're
    breaking the law by possessing
Pokemon, does it? Whatever, now if
    you'll excuse me.
Christopher scampers into an empty alleyway, takes off his
backpack and rests it on the ground, Cyndaquil and Totodile
    jump out.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
It feels like I'm carrying an anvil
on my back. I need a breather.

    ALMA
    I imagine you'd say that.

    CHRISTOPHER
    What are you saying?
Joining him, Alma takes off her backpack, resting it on the
    ground. Chikorita jumps out.

    ALMA
    Strength was never your strongest
    point was it?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Excuse me?

    ALMA
    (To Chikorita)
He can't even beat me in an arm-
wrestling match. Beaten by a girl,
    imagine that.

    CHRISTOPHER
Only because your elbows are so
    slender and bony they anchor
themselves into the table. If it
were a fair test of strength, I
    guarantee...

    (He points to himself)
    ...that the superior gender would
    always win.
Chikorita scowls at Christopher, Totodile and Cyndaquil shrug
    and nod at each other.

    ALMA
Well, I think I'm right in saying
that WE are the superior gender.

    CHRISTOPHER
Well, I KNOW I'm right in saying
    that WE are.

    ALMA
    Let's see who's right then!

INT./EXT. VARIOUS LOCATIONS IN TURNER TOWN - CONTINUOUS

    MONTAGE START

    - Day, The children, Pokemon in rucksacks, march to the pier.
They push and shove to get there first.

    - The children compete in various games, high striker,
coconut shy, air hockey, their Pokemon helping them to win.

    - Afternoon, the children buy various foods for the Pokemon,
including candy floss, which Totodile loves so much he jumps
into the mixer to get some more.

    - Evening, the children find a quiet corner of the beach to
themselves. They build sandcastles with the Pokemon.

    - Alone in a cafe, the children buy tea for the Pokemon, they
sit at the table and drink together.

    - The children return to Alma's house, Pokemon sleeping in
    the rucksacks, they slip inside.

    MONTAGE END

    INT. ALMA'S HOUSE - NIGHT

In Alma's room. Christopher and Alma watch the three Pokemon
    sleep on the bed.

From outside the window, unseen, Celebi watches them, face
and hands pressed against the glass.

    CHRISTOPHER
Maybe we don't have to send them
back. If no-one knew they were
here, we could look after them.

    ALMA
    You really think so?

    CHRISTOPHER
Yeah, I like having them around.
Look at how cute they are when they
    sleep, especially Biterdile.

    ALMA
    What?

    CHRISTOPHER
Biterdile, that's what we agreed to
    call him right?

    ALMA
No, we didn't. We agreed to call
    him RAZER, remember?

    (Points to Cyndaquil)
    He's BERNY.
    (Points to Chikorita)
    And she's PHYLLIS.
The door can heard opening downstairs.

    CHRISTOPHER
    What? Your parents aren't supposed
    to be back this early.

    ALMA
Let's just keep them talking and
    hope they don't come in.
They leave the room, Celebi continues to watch.

A dark figure approaches behind her. SWISH. A Murkrow
    snatches Celebi away.

Four more Murkrows appear, they perch on the window and look
    inside, EYES AGLOW.

OUTSIDE THE ROOM, the children are standing with their backs
to the door of Alma's room, MR & MRS HARPER (40s) look down
    at her.

    MRS HARPER
    You vacuumed the halls?

    ALMA
    Yes Mum.

    MR HARPER
    Emptied the dishwasher?

    ALMA
    Yes Dad.

    MRS HARPER
    Changed your bed sheets?

    ALMA
    (Beat)
    Yes.

    MR HARPER
    You don't sound very sure.

    ALMA
I changed them, honest I did.

    MRS HARPER
    Did you really?
Mrs Harper barges past her and enters the room.

    ALMA
    No, don't go in!

    MRS HARPER
Hmm, not bad, could be better.

    ALMA
    Wait, what?
The children and Mr Harper enter the room. No Pokemon. They
start searching high and low for their friends.

    MR HARPER
    Is everything alright?

    CHRISTOPHER
    No, everything isn't alright.

    MRS HARPER
    What have you lost?

    ALMA
Can we have a little space please?
Mr and Mrs Harper leave. Alma finds the windows ajar.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
They must have gone out the window.
Or maybe someone came for them.

    CHRISTOPHER
    They were kidnapped? Why? How?
Where did they go? What are we
    going to do?

    ALMA
    I don't know.

    MRS HARPER
    (From downstairs)
    Christopher, your parents are here
for you, don't keep them waiting.

    CHRISTOPHER
    They're gone forever.

    ALMA
We don't know that, maybe they're
strong enough to fight off the
    kidnappers. Maybe they’ll come
back, you can come around again,
and it’ll be like they never left.
    You’ll see.

    CHRISTOPHER
I wish we could’ve been together
for longer. It made me forget the
    way things are back home.

    ALMA
Yeah, but come on. You have your
mum and dad. And your Gramps.
You all share the same roof, they
understand how you feel. And don’t
forget, we have each other. Right?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Right.
The two share a hug before Christopher leaves.
He is driven away from the coastal Turner Town toward the
    dreary Spelter City.

    INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE - NIGHT

He enters his home, a poorly maintained house that appear to
be broken in half, one half seems to be sinking into a river.
He goes to bed in a tiny room, the walls covered in cracks
and torn wallpaper, that barely has enough room to fit in the
four beds that his family uses. He sleeps.

    ACT 1 (part 2)
    EXT. SPELTER CITY – MORNING

8 years have passed. Christopher, now eighteen, walks out of
his house. His Grandpa, GRAMPS (70s) emerges from the house
in his wheelchair, suitcase in lap.

    GRAMPS
Oi, dipstick, don't go off without
    your suitcase.

    CHRISTOPHER
Okay, okay. No need to get lairy
    Gramps.

He take the suitcase and heads off.

EXT. SPELTER CITY PLAZA - MORNING

Christopher comes across a giant screen propped up in the
plaza, hundreds of people crowding around it. Displayed is
live footage of Johto filmed from Turner Town, two
Dragonites, bipedal draconic beasts, rise out of the water,
    firing beams at each other.

INT. SPELTER SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY - DAY

Christopher sits, his table littered with every book he could
find about Pokemon, scribbling notes in his pad. An 18 year
old Alma pulls up a seat beside him.

    ALMA
Christopher. You know you were late
    for Maths.

    CHRISTOPHER
There's only one thing I refuse to
be late for, Alma, and that is the
    Pokemon fad sweeping Spelter City,
    specifically this Pokemon.

    (Points to a picture)
You seen the Dragonites in the
    news?

    ALMA
The ones that have been fighting
    for four days straight?

    CHRISTOPHER
The people LOVE it. But they could
stop at any moment, so now's the
    time to act.

    ALMA
I don't suppose you want to be like
me? Pursue education? Get a proper
job? Babysitting isn't as bad as I
    make it sound you know.

    CHRISTOPHER
All that matters is that my family
eat at the end of the day. Now, if
    you'll excuse me.
He picks up his suitcase and leaves the table.

    EXT. SPELTER PLAZA - AFTERNOON

The screen is still displaying the Dragonite fight, but the
crowd is centered around Christopher, his suitcase open,
Pokemon merchandise inside. He holds up a Dragonite figurine.

    CHRISTOPHER
Load up the beam into his mouth,
    pull the trigger, WOOSH.

    (The figurine shoots a
    plastic projectile)
See how far that went? You could
use that to switch on the telly
when your remote goes missing. Get
a pair and stage the fight of the
century in the comfort of your own
    home. Recommended retail price is
20 quid. You can get it right here,
right now, for only 10 quid. Oh,
did I mention his eyes light up?
He flicks a switch on the figurines back. The head bursts
into flame. Christopher yelps and throws it to the ground.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Okay then, instead, how about this
    fabulous evolution praxinoscope.

Christopher takes out a praxinoscope from his suitcase.
Images of Pokemon are on the inside

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Dratini, the first of the Dragonite
    evolution line. Pokemon are social
    creatures, they form small
communities to stay alive. But a
    community needs protection, hence
the need for guardians, hence the
need for evolution. A Pokemon is
chosen by its community to act as a
    guardian, they're trained by the
current guardians and when they are
    skilled enough...

He spins the Praxinoscope, the Dratini appears to transform
from a serpentine figure into a large four-limbed dragon.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    They will undergo sudden and
    drastic metamorphosis, changing
    into a more powerful creature.
    Dragonite train Dratini, who
    eventually become Dragonite, et
    cetera. Witness this marvelous
phenomenon of the world of Pokemon,
any time, anywhere, not for 19
quid, not for 17 quid, but for..

He sees a police car arrive.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    ...heaven's sake.
    CUT TO:

    EXT. ALLEYWAY IN SPELTER CITY

Christopher runs from the cops, suitcase in hands. He runs
into a locked metal gate, dead end, the cops are behind him.
Christopher drops the suitcase, clambers up the wall, quick
like a monkey, over the metal gate. The cops can't follow.
He takes off down the road.

INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE, KITCHEN - EVENING

Christopher is washing clothes in a large bucket, Gramps in
his wheelchair opposite him. MR CORWIN (50s) is boiling
pasta, MRS CORWIN (50s) is preparing the sauce. In the corner
is a pile of Pokemon plushies.

    GRAMPS
    (To Christopher)
You lost the suitcase? Didn't I
    teach you better?

    CHRISTOPHER
It weren't me though. I was
cornered, I had to act fast.

    GRAMPS
There's no point in digging up
plastic toys from every skip in
Spelter City if you're just going
to drop them and run away because
    of a few measly coppers.

    CHRISTOPHER
Don't matter though, does it? I got
    plan B right there.

    (points to the plushies)

    MRS CORWIN
I was gonna ask, where did you
    find those?

    CHRISTOPHER
Someone just threw them out into a
river, a massive pile. Once they
dry out they'll be good to go.

    MRS CORWIN
Well get rid of them fast, they're
    making a right old stink.
The pasta is served on grimy plates on a rotting wooden
    table. They start eating.

    GRAMPS
When I had me legs, I could outrun
    the coppers carrying two suitcases.

    MRS CORWIN
Enough, he did good work today,
    just like his Dad.

    MR CORWIN
    I did honest work today.

    CHRISTOPHER
Well, excuse me for responding to
    our present situation.

    MR CORWIN
    Never-mind the present, what about
your future? You can't keep going
on like this, selling trash on the
streets. If you won't put in any
    effort with school, maybe there's
something else. Any hobbies? I used
to like fishing in my youth.

    CHRISTOPHER
Leaving out the bit where fishing
is boring as sin, where am I
    supposed to fish? The bloomin
    toilet?

    MRS CORWIN
Maybe we could do it on holiday.
    Somewhere nice and sunny.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Oh mum, stop, please.

    MRS CORWIN
LISTEN to your mother. Watch and
see what happens. Our luck will
    change someday. We'll have enough
money to move out, find a nice home
and have as many holidays as we
like. We all work hard, don't we?
We don't give up, do we? Someday,
it'll all pay off. You'll see.
    INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE, BEDROOM. NIGHT

Christopher and his family sleep with the beds pressed up
against each other to fit in the tiny room, just like before.
Christopher looks at a picture of an island on a postcard. He
hears the faint sound of waves in his mind, then puts it
    under his pillow and sleeps.

    INT. ALMAS NEIGHBOURS HOUSE. NIGHT

Three terrible children are wrecking the house, Alma is
desperately trying to keep them under control. However, she
lacks the assertiveness to take control of the situation.

INT. SPELTER SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY - DAY

Christopher and Alma are sitting at the same table as before.
Alma with heavy bags under her eyes.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Were the children good?

    ALMA
Were the children good? WERE THE
    CHILDREN GOOD?

    CHRISTOPHER
Is this the straw that breaks the
    camels back?

    ALMA
I am done babysitting. The only
sitting I want to now is sitting
    down, and resting.

    CHRISTOPHER
Did you need the money that badly?

    ALMA
I wanted to save up money to take a
    gap year and travel.

    CHRISTOPHER
Why? If you want to go somewhere,
get a postcard and stare at it. Or
    watch a documentary.

    ALMA
No, that's not what its about. What
about chance? What about the little
things that you can’t rewind and
play a second time? What about the
    discoveries that no amount of
    research can prepare you for?

    CHRISTOPHER
Sounds terrifying, but if it makes
you happy, do it, by all means.
Though I will say, if it's money
you want, take a page from my book.

    ALMA
I don't think so. Anyway, I have to
go to class, don't want to be late.
    She get's up and leaves.

    CHRISTOPHER
It's easy, all you have to do is
believe your own story. If you can
    convince yourself you have genuine
red Gyarados scales in your hands,
    you can convince anyone.

ALMA walks past a bookshelf, a book catches her eye. The
spline reads "Myths and tales of the legendary Pokemon of
    gold and silver".

She takes it off the shelf, sits and reads. She smiles.

EXT. SPELTER CITY PLAZA - AFTERNOON

Christopher returns to his spot, but as he's about to open
his suitcase, he sees his crowd congregate around someone
else. He hears a familiar voice.

    ALMA
Long ago, when Pokemon and humans
lived in harmony, there was a bell
tower and a bronze tower, each home
    to Ho-oh and Lugia respectively.

She holds up two plushies, one of a gold bird, the other of a
    silver beast.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Those who dared meet with Ho-oh
would receive the gift of life, the
power to bring back their loved one
from death in a new body. But only
if they passed Ho-oh's trial by
    fire.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Those are my plushies!

    ALMA
One day, a warlord visits Ho-oh,
hoping to save his beloved Pokemon.
He fails the trial. In anger and
frustration, he wages war on Ho-oh
    and Lugia. The bronze tower
    collapses, Lugia flees into the
    ocean.

    CHRISTOPHER
Oi, Alma, what are you doing?

    ALMA
    (To Christopher)
    Let me finish, good sir.
    (To the audience)
In the end, the warlord loses, his
    army defeated.
She picks up a plushie of a quadruped beast with a red mask.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Entei, one of Ho-oh's guardians,
chases mankind out of Johto, humans
    and Pokemon are forever separated.

    CHRISTOPHER
    How did you even...

    ALMA
    (To Christopher)
    Ask your Grandpa.
Christopher takes out his phone and dials home.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    (To the crowd)
As for Ho-oh? To this day it
    searches the oceans, looking for
its partner, a silver beast under
the sea, never resting until gold
    and silver are re-united.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (On the phone)
    You gave her my plushies?
INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE, KITCHEN - SAME TIME

Gramps is home alone with Mrs Corwin, who is pouring him tea.

    GRAMPS
I told her where to find them, same
place you got them. You should have
swiped them all if you didn't want
    your bird stealing them.

EXT. SPELTER CITY PLAZA - SAME TIME

    CHRISTOPHER
She is NOT my bird! Ridiculous,
women don't even have the charisma
    to swindle.

INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE, KITCHEN - SAME TIME

    GRAMPS
    But you swindle very well.
    (Hangs up, laughing)

EXT. SPELTER CITY PLAZA - AFTERNOON

    CHRISTOPHER
    I'll get you for this!

    ALMA
    What's the matter? You're not
worried I'm better at your job than
    you are, are you Christopher?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Worried? About a woman trailing
behind a man? By the end of today I
could make twice as much money as
    you.

    ALMA
By the end of today I could make
    three times as much.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Alright then, whoever has more
    money by seven wins.

    ALMA
    Let's do it, poor boy.

    CHRISTOPHER
Bring it on, little miss wage gap.
    MONTAGE START

    - Christopher collects notes from buyers, which he puts in a
    big jar.

    - Alma does the exact same with her own big jar.

    - Christopher looks at his jar, then at Alma's. She seems to
    be winning.

    - Three policemen arrive, they spot the two, who turn and
    run. They are chased.

    - In an alleyway - Christopher and Alma run together, arms
around their jars, chased by coppers.

    - They come to a bridge, police approaching from either side.

    - They look off the edge and exchange a nod. They run to jump
off the edge, but only Alma jumps. She hits the water.

    - Christopher and the policemen watch her from atop the
bridge. Christopher hands the policemen some of his notes.

    MONTAGE END

EXT. SPELTER CITY PLAZA - EVENING

Alma is soaking wet, everyone else has left. The two are
counting up their money in a big pile of coins and notes.

    ALMA
Hmm, neck and neck. Call it a draw?

    CHRISTOPHER
No, how can I call you little miss
wage gap if you're equal to me?

    ALMA
    Wanna rematch, poor boy?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Tomorrow? Same time, same place?

    ALMA
    You're on!
She offer her hand, he clasps it with his. Meanwhile, two
figures watch from the shadows, a male and a female.

    INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE. EVENING

Christopher pushes the door open with his back, his jar of
money in his hand. His mother is doing chores, Gramps is
    reading the newspaper.

    CHRISTOPHER
Look at this, a big lovely jar of
    money! Where’s Dad?

Mr Corwin hobbles into the room. He’s hunched over and is
    using a cane to walk.

He sits in a chair, gritting his teeth in pain. Christopher
puts the jar down and runs over to help him.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Easy now. What happened to you?

    MR CORWIN
Crushed by a trolley at work today.
It’s not good I’m afraid. The
doctor says I’m going to be using
this stick for a long time.

    CHRISTOPHER
    But what about your job?

    MR CORWIN
It doesn’t seem likely that I’ll be
    going back to work.

    CHRISTOPHER
But if you’re not at work our
family doesn’t get any money. What
are we going to do about our food?
    What about our bills?

    MRS CORWIN
    Funny you should mention that,
Alma's parents asked after us, we
told them what happened, they were
happy enough to lend us a bit of
money. Enough to pay for this
    month’s bills.

    CHRISTOPHER
They just gave you money? And you
    took it?

    MR CORWIN
    There’s nothing wrong with
    accepting charity.

    CHRISTOPHER
We don't need what we can make
    ourselves. We're not beggars. This
    isn't right.

    MR CORWIN
But what you're doing is right?
    A moment of silence.

    CHRISTOPHER
I can make more money than what
Alma’s family can give you, just
    you watch me.

INT. SPELTER SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY - DAY

Christopher is hard at work reading books and scribbling
    notes. Alma sits.

    ALMA
Well, well, well, if it isn't
    Christopher, doing his "homework".
Might as well give up, you're
centuries away from being on par
    with me.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Uh-huh.

    ALMA
    That's it? Uh-huh?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Uh-huh.

    ALMA
    Is something wrong?

    CHRISTOPHER
    No.
The two sit in silence. As Christopher reads, he sees a
picture of a Cyndaquil, Chikorita and a Totodile.

EXT. SPELTER CITY PLAZA - AFTERNOON

Christopher's crowd is furious, disappointed in his plushies.
Alma watches helplessly as he tries to defend himself.

INT – CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE - EVENING

A physically exhausted Christopher stumbles in, his jar
empty. He hears his father speak on the phone, he stands and
    watches.

    MR CORWIN
Are you joking? Six weeks? Listen,
I was only late for the appointment
because my car broke down. I tried
    re-arranging the date but I wasn't
allowed. You can't put sanctions on
    my benefits for something that
    wasn't my fault.

    (listens)
No, I'm not trying to get angry, I
just want to help my family.
INT. SPELTER SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY - DAY

Christopher and Alma sit together. Christopher, reading his
books as usual, Alma completely invisible to him.

    ALMA
    Christopher? Listen, what happened
to you yesterday, with the mob, I'm
sorry you had to go through that.

Christopher turns a page and keeps on reading, silent.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Is it what I said about you being a
poor boy? Is that why you're like
this? Because if that hurt you, I'm
sorry. I didn't mean it like that.

Still no response. Alma gives up, stands and leaves.

    INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE - EVENING

Like before, Christopher washes, his parents make dinner. He
hears the table being laid. The family sits at the table, he
sees the plates, something is different from before.

His family's plates are smaller and have less food on them
    than his.

Christopher takes his cutlery, but doesn't eat.

    MRS CORWIN
    Christopher, we're not that hungry,
    that's all. Everything is fine.

Christopher reluctantly begins eating, the rest of the family
continue to eat. As he eats, tears well up in his eyes.

    He stops eating.

He gets up from the table, he races to the door and exits,
slamming the door shut behind him.

Outside, he paces over to his bike, which is tied to a
    padlock.

His fingers scramble all over the lock as he finds the right
    combination.

He shakes at the padlock until it comes free, he flings it
    onto the road.

He jumps on his bike and cycles off into the night. His
family run out of the house and try to chase him.

    INT. TRAIN - NIGHT

Christopher sits on the train, his bike beside him, staring
at his own weary face in the windows reflection. The train
    takes him to Turner Town.

    INT. ALMAS HOUSE - NIGHT

Alma sits on her bed counting the money she's earned. Her
eyes drift to a picture of her and Christopher as children.
She picks up the picture and looks closer. She hears cycling
from outside, she looks out the window, Christopher is seen
cycling down the road. She opens the window.

    ALMA
    Christopher!

He continues cycling in a straight line, away from her house.

EXT. TURNER TOWN CLIFF - NIGHT

Christopher sits with his bike on the floor, staring at the
tree that Celebi once used. Alma arrives on her own bike,
carrying a backpack. She gets off and runs to him.

    ALMA
    Christopher? What are you doing
here? What’s going on? You’ve said
    nothing for days.

He remains silent, his back to Alma.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Christopher? For crying out loud,
    say something!
He still remains quiet. A brief silence between the two. Alma
then puts her bag on the floor and takes out her jar.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
My parents told me about what’s
been happening. So, I think you
need this more than I do.

Alma hands him her jar. Christopher stands, turns around and
    gives a cynical chuckle.

    CHRISTOPHER
    This is ridiculous.

    ALMA
    What?

    CHRISTOPHER
    It’s official, isn’t it? We’re at
the bottom of the barrel. None of
us can make any money so we have no
choice but to snap it up from
    everyone else, like dogs.

    ALMA
    Pull yourself together! You’re an
idiot if you think you’re somehow
smart for not taking free money.

    CHRISTOPHER
And you’re an idiot if you think
you can fix an impoverished family
with a short-term solution just so
you can feel better about yourself.

    ALMA
No Christopher, No. I am not doing
this for me. I am doing this for
    you.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Well you're wasting your effort
because I don't deserve this, now
    go home.

    ALMA
Don’t you dare turn me away.
She pushes the jar to Christopher, he shoves her back.

    CHRISTOPHER
    I DON'T want your charity and I
    DON'T want your pity!
    Alma's jaw drops.

She puts the jar back in her bag, turns and leaves
Christopher, picking up her bike and walking.

The distance between them becomes farther apart.

Alma hears the faint sound of sobbing. She turns around and
sees Christopher, sitting with his face in his hands.

She walks back to Christopher. She sits down next to him. She
    holds him in her arms.

A creature flies over their heads.

From its talons, an envelop drops. It falls into
    Christopher's lap.

Christopher takes his head out his hands, he picks up the
envelop, on the front is written "To Christopher & Alma".
    Alma peers over his shoulder.

Christopher opens the envelop, takes out the letter and
    starts reading.

    FELIX (V.O.)
Hello Christopher and hello Alma. I
hope you are well. I've seen what
you've been doing in Spelter City
and I'm impressed by how much
    you've taught yourselves about
Pokemon at such a young age. I have
an opportunity I'd like to discuss
with you that involves working with
    Pokemon. If you're interested, call
the number below. We'll give you a
days trial to see how well you work
with Pokemon. If we think you're
capable, we'll offer you the job.
    Kind regards, Felix Knapp.
Alma and Christopher look at each other, smiling.

    ACT 1 (part 3)
INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE, KITCHEN - NIGHT

Christopher opens the door and enters, his family turn to him
to see his face beaming, he holds up the letter.

INT. CHRISTOPHERS HOUSE, KITCHEN - LATER

Mr Corwin has the letter in hand.

    MR CORWIN
    Absolutely not.

    CHRISTOPHER
    What? Come on!

    MR CORWIN
We thought we lost you. We're not
    having you get lost again.
Mrs Corwin takes the letter from his hand and reads.

    GRAMPS
This "Felix" bloke don't sound like
    he can be trusted.

    CHRISTOPHER
Can't I at least give it a try?
    It's only for a day.

    MR CORWIN
It'll only take a day for you to
get eaten alive, or frozen, or
    electrocuted, or burned...

    CHRISTOPHER
    Please, just listen. I'm not
running away, not this time. I'm
thinking of what's best for you,
    all of you.

    GRAMPS
Christopher, what's best for us is
    that you're safe.

    MRS CORWIN
    Allo!
Everyone turns to see Mrs Corwin on the phone. Reading from
    the letter.

    MRS CORWIN (CONT’D)
You are Felix Knapp, aren't you?
Funny name you have. Anyway, my son
got your letter, says he'd love to
meet with you. What day would you
    like to meet?

    MR CORWIN
    Carol, what are you doing?
She holds a hand up to his face as she listens.

    MRS CORWIN
Right then, a week from now, cliff-
side of Turner City, he'll be ever
    so happy.

    GRAMPS
    (To Mr Corwin)
I warned you not to marry her, you
    wouldn't listen.

    MRS CORWIN
    (To Gramps and Mr Corwin)
Shut it, the pair of you. I am not
    having this. Christopher's spent
too long being trodden into the
dirt, now he finally has something
to hope for. So if you won't let
him go to Johto, I'll drag him out
there myself and you won't stop me.
    Now, are we clear?
    Gramps and Mr Corwin nod.

    MRS CORWIN
    That's more like it.
    She hangs up the phone.

EXT. TURNER TOWN CLIFF - DAY

Christopher and Alma walk together to the edge of the cliff
where the cherry blossom is, Alma carrying a massive
    rucksack.

    CHRISTOPHER
So how did you convince your
parents to let you go to Johto of
    all places?

    ALMA
I told them someone hired me as a
    nanny for a day.

    CHRISTOPHER
And how'd you convince them to give
you a bag full of food?

    ALMA
    I didn't, I went to the supermarket
after I left. Better safe than
    sorry I reckon.
The cliff seems to be void of human presence.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Weird, Felix said he'd be waiting
for us when I spoke with him.
A deep, thunderous growl is heard from behind the tree. A
massive ursine figure emerges from behind the tree, SNORLAX.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Maybe this was a bad idea.
Snorlax smiles, makes a dash for the two, scoops them up and
    gives them a big hug.

    CHRISTOPHER
Alma, we're being crushed by a
    giant fluff ball.

    ALMA
    I know!

    FELIX
    Snorlax! Put them down, now!
A plump, neckbearded man in his twenties runs for them.
Snorlax turns to see him gesturing, she drops them.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
I am so sorry about that, Snorlax
    gets a bit over-excited sometimes.
I'm Felix Knapp, by the way. I take
    it you're...

    CHRISTOPHER
    Christopher Corwin.

    ALMA
    Alma Harper.
    They shake hands with him.

    FELIX
Good to meet you, I'm sorry if I
seem nervous. I get really nervous,
when I talk to people and, like,
sometimes I can't stop talking and
    then I get fidgety and...

    CHRISTOPHER
Why don't you tell us about the
    job?

    ALMA
    Are we researching Pokemon or
    something?

    FELIX
People have tried doing that for
    centuries.
He pulls a small device with a screen out of his pocket.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    But not successfully. After mankind
left Johto, the gap between human
and Pokemon only got wider. Now,
    most Pokemon don't like humans
getting close at all. We simply
don't understand each other like we
    used to.
    (Holds up device)
    But not anymore. This changes
    everything.

Felix points the device at Snorlax, it scans her with light.
Information about Snorlax appears on the devices screen.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    My invention can gather information
    on a Pokemon's typing, behaviour,
    linguistic patterns, anything you
    need to build an understanding.
    It's a high-tech encyclopedia, a
    Pokedex.
The two stare at the screen, which lights up their faces.
Christopher takes it and starts flicking through the entries.

    ALMA
    Who else knows about this?

    FELIX
I tried showing it to a potential
investor, he loved the idea of it,
but he wasn't sure it could work in
    practice.

    CHRISTOPHER
For an encyclopedia, it's a bit
lacking in entries don't you think?

    FELIX
That's what he said. He said he'd
be interested in making a deal only
if I could prove it worked, so I
came to Johto to fill it up.
Problem is, it's just me and my
business partner at the moment and
    we're just too busy nowadays.

    ALMA
    That's why you need us.

    FELIX
Exactly. You're going to be seeking
    out never-before seen Pokemon and
    adding them to the Pokedex.
    Exciting, right?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Isn't it also dangerous?

    ALMA
If we're seen by humans, we'll get
arrested, if we're seen by Pokemon,
    we're dead.

    FELIX
Not if they can't see us.
Felix clicks a device pinned to his hoodie. Behind him, an
object starts to materialize out of thin air.

A large, clunky aircraft appears, looking like it was thrown
together from pieces of scrap at the last minute.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
This is how we're getting to Johto.
    I also invented it myself.

    CHRISTOPHER
Looks like the sort of rubbish I'd
try and sell off to some div. How
is that thing going to fly?

    ALMA
    Christopher, manners.

    CHRISTOPHER
    I'm only being honest.

    FELIX
Climb aboard and I'll show you how
well it flies. Unless you want to
    stay behind.
Christopher and Alma look at each other, they exchange a nod.

    INT. FELIX'S AIRCRAFT - LATER

Christopher and Alma sit with Snorlax, who is scrunched up
against the low ceiling. Felix is at the control panel.

Felix flicks switches and pushes buttons. The rotors on the
craft start turning, the aircraft lurches off the ground.

Though shaky, the aircraft gains height.

Out of the open loading ramp, Christopher and Alma see the
Anglis region become smaller in the distance.

The ramp door closes and the aircraft becomes invisible.

    INT. FELIX'S AIRCRAFT - AFTERNOON

Felix sits with Christopher and Alma, showing them a map of
Johto on the Pokedex screen, which is dotted with way-points.
Felix points out a marker that says "Team Zephyr HQ".

    FELIX
    That's our base, Zephyr
    Technoligies HQ.

    ALMA
But it says "Team Zephyr HQ".

    FELIX
    I know, Darlene and I had a
    disagreement with the name.
    Speaking of which...
He takes out his phone and calls Darlene. He puts the phone
    to his ear.

    CHRISTOPHER
Darlene? I take it she's your
    business partner?

    FELIX
    That's right.

    DARLENE
    (From the phone)
GOOD news, Felix, I need GOOD news.
    Right now!

    FELIX
I've picked up the new recruits,
we're heading back to Ibex forest.
Is that good news to you?

    DARLENE
    You got Snorlax with you?

    FELIX
    Yeah, why?

    DARLENE
I'm gonna need some muscle. Get
here as fast as humanly possible.
She hangs up. Felix puts his phone away.

    EXT. IBEX FOREST - AFTERNOON

Darlene, Weavile and the Murkrows sits by the cherry blossom
with the cattle prod still in its doors. They see the
aircraft descend through the canopy and land. Darlene and
Weavile run to its position. Christopher, Alma, Felix and
Snorlax exit through the ramp door of the aircraft. Darlene,
    followed by Weavile, approaches them.

    DARLENE
You must be the new recruits, Chris
    and Alma, right?

    CHRISTOPHER
    I prefer Christopher.

    ALMA
    So, you must be...

    DARLENE
    Darlene Weaver, I'm the business
    brains of Team Zephyr.

    (To Snorlax)
I have some doors that need opening,
    think you can do it?

    ALMA
    What's on the other side?

    DARLENE
    None of your business.

    ALMA
You brought us here. We're meant to
    help you.

    DARLENE
This is a problem that's ours to
deal with alone. If I want you
getting involved, I need to make
sure you're right for the job
first. Until then, stay here until
    I get back.

    (To Weavile)
You, keep an eye on them.
    (To Snorlax and Felix)
    You two, come with me.
Felix, Darlene and Snorlax head off into the wood.

AT CELEBI'S TREE, the three arrive to see the Murkrows
peering through the gap in the door held open by the cattle
    prod.

    FELIX
    It's a portal. There's only one
Pokemon that can do that. This
    isn't possible...

    DARLENE
    It is. Celebi is real.
Snorlax wedges her claws through the opening in the door and
    forces it open.

Darlene takes the cattle prod and props open the doors with a
large tree branch, the gap now wide enough to pass through.

The Murkrows fly through the doors, off into the horizon.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    Now, we wait.
    EXT. IBEX FOREST - LATER

Felix, Christopher, Alma and Darlene, with her cattle prod
beside her, are sitting in a circle beside the aircraft.

Beside them, Snorlax is resting and Weavile is playing with a
    cherry from Celebi's tree.

    DARLENE
Impossible. That's the word I never
want to hear. It's the word Felix
constantly had on his mind til I
found him, that's when I showed him
he can do more with his talents. He
can take apart ANYTHING and put it
back together in a new way.

    ALMA
I always used to think a human
    training a Pokemon was impossible.
How did you manage to tame a
    Weavile of all Pokemon?

    DARLENE
The Pokedex helped clear the air
between us. Plus, she's a dark-
type, I love dark-types. But enough
about me, what about you? Why the
interest in Pokemon? Have you seen
    one before today?

    ALMA
You wouldn’t believe me if I told
    you.

    DARLENE
Try me. Come on, you can say.

    ALMA
When me and Christopher were ten,
    we encountered some Pokemon, four
    Pokemon in fact.

    DARLENE
    You’ve been to Johto before?

    ALMA
No, they came to the Anglis region.

    DARLENE
    Did someone bring them there?

    ALMA
This is bit were everyone stops
believing us. They came to us
    through a tree.
Christopher notices Darlene reaching for her cattle prod.

    DARLENE
    Did they really?

    ALMA
    Yep, they did really.

    DARLENE
What kind of Pokemon were they?

    ALMA
Okay, so, there was a Chikorita, a
    Totodile, a Cyndaquil and a…
She sees Christopher making a “cut it out” gesture at her.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    …Celebi?

    DARLENE
    Where did you take them?

    ALMA
    Darlene, what’s going on here?

    DARLENE
    Answer me.

    ALMA
What do you want with them?
Weavile puts the cherry behind her ear and darts around
    Christopher & Alma.

From her mouth, she fires blue beams that encase Christopher
& Alma's limbs in ice on contact. They're paralyzed.

    FELIX
    What are you doing?
Darlene stands and points her cattle prod at Alma.

    DARLENE
Listen up, sweetie. We use Pokemon
    as temporary recruits, and those
who don’t play ball get sold off in
a cage. Three of them went AWOL on
    me. I need them back.

    ALMA
    (To Felix)
    You’re trafficking Pokemon. You
    lied to us!

    DARLENE
Don’t like it? Tough. Felix makes
some cool stuff, but nothing that
gets us any income. I’m the one
    who’s solving that problem.

    FELIX
    Darlene, please stop.
Weavile silences him with a glare.

Darlene turns on the cattle prod, buzzing like mad bees, and
holds it close to Alma's face.

AT CELEBI'S TREE, The Murkrows return through the portal,
carrying Berny, Razer and Phyllis, still sleeping, and
    Celebi, who's awake and struggling.

One of the Murkrows takes away the tree branch that props the
    door open. It snaps shut.

As the Murkrows fly they cross a beam of sunlight, which
energizes Phyllis through her leaf-like skin, she awakens.

BACK AT THE AIRCRAFT. Darlene holds the buzzing electric prod
    close to Alma's face.

    DARLENE
Where did you keep them? Talk.

    CHRISTOPHER
Alma, don't try to be a hero,
    please.

    ALMA
    I don't answer to you.
Darlene raises her cattle prod, ready to strike Alma.

    CHRISTOPHER
    No!
Darlene stumbles, she looks down. Grass ropes constrict her
    legs.

    DARLENE
    What the?
    She falls over.

A group of tiny fireballs impact the icy crystals
constricting Christopher & Alma's limbs, the crystals melt.

Grass ropes coil around the Weavile from every angle, she's
    held down, mouth shut.

Alma and Christopher stand. Celebi flutters from the shadows
    up to them.

    ALMA
    Celebi? What're you doing here?
Celebi gestures to the undergrowth. The two turn to see five
Murkrows on the floor, tied down by grass ropes.

Beside the Murkrows stand three figures, covered in shadow.

    They approach Christopher & Alma.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Alma...

    ALMA
    They were here all along...
PHYLLIS the Chikorita, BERNY the Cyndaquil and RAZER the
    Totodile walk into the light.

    CHRISTOPHER & ALMA
    It's you!

The Pokemon run into Christopher and Alma's arms with such
force that they knock them to the ground. The Pokemon jump
    around them in excitement.

Darlene rips the grass ropes from around her legs, grabs the
    cattle prod and stands.

She points the prod toward Christopher & Alma.

    DARLENE
Not so fast. I want that Celebi and
    I want my recruits.

    (To Chikorita)
Especially you. I'm not having you
run away from me when you're THIS
    close to evolving.
She holds her forefinger and thumb an inch from each other.

    CHRISTOPHER
So it was you who snatched them out
    of Alma's bedroom.

    ALMA
We've waited 8 years to be with
them again and we're not giving
    them up now.
Weavile breaks free of the ropes.

    DARLENE
Weavile, deal with this however you
want, but I want the Pokemon alive.

Weavile RUNS to Christopher & Alma.

Berny approaches Weavile, he SPITS FIREBALLS.

Weavile evades and LEAPS TOWARD BERNY.

The leaf on Phyllis's head becomes rigid and shiny, like a
    sword.

She bounds forward, her leaf blade CLASHING with Weavile's
    claws.

Phyllis and the Weavile exchange blows, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG.

DARLENE JABS at Celebi with the prob.

Celebi dodges, grabs her hair, YANKS it hard.

    Darlene SCREAMS, dropping the prod.

Phyllis lands a SLICE on Weavile, the tip of her ear cut off.

Weavile retreats, clambers up a tree.

Phyllis summons grass ropes, extending to Weavile.

Weavile LEAPS from tree to tree, dodging every rope.

From her mouth, Weavile FIRES AN ICE BEAM.

FWOOSH. Phyllis's body is FROZEN IN ICE CRYSTALS. She
    struggles, no use.

Weavile leaps back down, approaches Phyllis, claws poised.

CRUNCH. Something stops Weavile, it's RAZER, biting her claw.

BERNY stands back against Phyllis's ice prison, melting the
    ice with his fiery back.

DARLENE grabs a rock, STRIKES Celebi, knocking her out.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Hey, leave her alone!

He approaches her. She KNEES HIM IN THE STOMACH, he recoils.

WEAVILE tries to shake RAZER off her claw.

She FLINGS him through the air, he HITS ALMA, they both fall.

DARLENE scoops up Celebi, runs to the aircraft.

    DARLENE
    Felix, start the engines.

    FELIX
What about the Murkrows? What about
    the new recruits?

    DARLENE
    Celebi will do. Hurry up!

    FELIX
    But...but...

    DARLENE
    NOW.

    FELIX
    (To Snorlax)
    Wake up! We're leaving.
Snorlax awakens. Felix jumps into the craft, presses buttons
and flicks switches. Snorlax jumps in afterwards.

    ALMA
    They're getting away!
BERNY fires a STREAM OF FIRE, blocking Darlene's path.

Weavile KICKS BERNY, he tumbles, SLAMS against a boulder.

DARLENE enters the craft. Weavile runs to her.

    DARLENE
    (To Weavile)
Hold them off until we're in the
    air!
Phyllis BREAKS FREE OF THE ICE, she runs to the aircraft.

Weavile pounces to Phyllis but she's GRABBED BY A GRASS ROPE.

Weavile cuts it, another constricts her, she cuts again,
    another constricts.

More and more ropes constrict her, the ropes getting thicker
    each time. She's overwhelmed.

Sparks surround Phyllis, she grows in size. DARLENE watches.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
This is really bad, we need to go!

    FELIX
    On it!
As the aircraft rises, Phyllis waves her now massive leaf
like a wand, summoning several grass ropes.

The ropes CLING TO THE AIRCRAFT, stopping it in its tracks.

As the aircraft jerks to one side, the Pokedex is FLUNG out
of Felix's pocket. It falls to the ground.

Phyllis turns to face Christopher & Alma, no longer a
Chikorita, but a Bayleef, a Sauropod as tall as Christopher
    with a long leaf.

    CHRISTOPHER
Well, would you Adam & Eve it...

    ALMA
    Phyllis! You evolved! You look
    amazing!
IN THE AIRCRAFT. Darlene digs through a storage unit in the
    floor of the aircraft.

    DARLENE
I know I left it here somewhere.
    Aha!

She pulls out a vial of strange powder.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
And they were so close too...
She cackles as she THROWS THE VIAL TO THE GROUND BELOW.

The vial BREAKS open, the powder releasing, it envelops the
    group.

WEAVILE slips free of her grassy bonds.

In a flash, she SEVERS the ropes tying down the aircraft.

    ALMA
    No...

    CHRISTOPHER
    We're not done here...

    DARLENE
    Oh yes you are.
As Weavile clambers the trees to enter the aircraft, it flies
    away.

Alma, Christopher and the Pokemon fall asleep.

    EXT. IBEX FOREST - LATER

Razer, having awoken, squirts Christopher & Alma with water,
who awaken. The Murkrows have fled, leaving their binding
    ropes behind.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Where's Felix? Where's Darlene?

    ALMA
    I think we lost them.

    CHRISTOPHER
No, no, no, this can't be happening
to me. This is a dream, this is all
a horrible dream, that's all it is.

    ALMA
    Christopher, I'm trying to think.

    CHRISTOPHER
There's no point in thinking, we're
    finished! We're well and truly...
Phyllis slaps him across the face with her leaf. He goes
    silent.

    ALMA
    Thank you Phyllis.
Alma spots something lying on the ground.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Wait a sec.
She picks it up, it's the Pokedex, the map application has
been opened, the HQ marked with a unique way-point.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
That's it! That's how we get out of
    Johto.

    CHRISTOPHER
    You don't seriously mean...

    ALMA
Go to their headquarters, get Felix
to take us back, free Celebi while
    we're at it? That's exactly what I
    mean. So let's go.
Alma closes the Pokedex, stands and puts it in her pocket and
    grabs her bike.

    CHRISTOPHER
Wait, can we just stop, please?

    ALMA
    What's wrong?

Christopher crouches, rubs his temples and sighs.

    CHRISTOPHER
    It's too much. I'm sorry, but I
can't deal with all of this.
I find out my family are starving
themselves to feed me, then we find
the Pokemon we lost 8 years ago and
now we have to survive in the most
dangerous place on earth in order
    to get home.

    ALMA
    Christopher, you'll be okay, you
    can make it out alive.

    CHRISTOPHER
    No, I can't. I sell junk and I get
money. I'm not an adventurer or an
    adrenaline junkie looking for a
    near-death experience. I'm just me.
Alma walks up to Christopher and crouches, so her head is
    level with his.

    ALMA
That's all you need to be. You're
here for me, and I'm here for you.
She holds out her hand. Christopher slowly raises his hand
    and takes hers.

She helps him to stand. They start walking, Phyllis, Razer
    and Berny follow.

They walk through Ibex Forest, Kakuna hang from the trees,
    threads glistening in the light.

Out of the forest, they walk up a grassy hill.

    They reach the hills peak.

Down below they see Johto, vast, vibrant, filled with life.

    ACT 2 (part 1)
    EXT. MAHOGANY FOREST - MORNING

Water crashes down in a large waterfall as Persians, cat-like
Pokemon, sit on the bank, sipping water from the pool at the
base of the waterfall. No sign of humans.

A shadow passes over them, accompanied by a monstrous humming
sound, the Persians flee. A huge, clunky aircraft approaches
the waterfall and hovers in mid-air.

Inside the aircraft sits Felix, Darlene, Weavile, Snorlax and
    Celebi, their latest prize.

The aircraft, visible, moves in through the crashing water
into the cavern on the other side.

INT. TEAM ZEPHYR HIDEOUT - MORNING

Large electrical lights line the cavern, connected by wires
to a sleeping Raichu, an electric mouse, acting as a power
source. Felix is fixing the aircraft surrounded by scrap
metal, Snorlax carrying the pieces he needs. Celebi is inside
a mesh cage along with several other cages, containing
    Pokemon.

Darlene is filling up an empty vial with the spores of a
Paras, a small crab-like creature with fungi growing from its
    back.

    DARLENE
You know, if the cloaking device is
    gonna keep failing mid-flight, you
might as well not bother with it
    anymore.

    FELIX
You and I both know why we can't be
seen flying around Johto. As soon
as I fix this thing, I'm going back
    out to find...

    DARLENE
No, you made your choice, stand by
    it.
She puts the vial away in her pocket, then takes out her
phone. She walks over to Celebi and starts taking pictures.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
Now, just a few more and I can
    start uploading. Smile!

    FELIX
You don't think it's dangerous at
all to put her up for sale? Think
of the things people could do with
    her.

    DARLENE
People either want a fancy gun or a
    fancy trophy and she doesn't
exactly look like a gun, does she?

    FELIX
    (To Snorlax)
She doesn't listen to me, does she?

    DARLENE
YOU don't listen to me. We can't go
    back now, do you understand?
    Imagine going for days without
shelter or food and trying not to
get burned alive by Entei just to
turn around and say "Hey, forget
all that, why don't we just call it
    a day and go home?".

    FELIX
But this isn't what I want, I want
my inventions to do something good.

    DARLENE
They are. Come on, look at where
you are. Everyone told you to give
    up, didn't they?

    FELIX
    They did.

    DARLENE
Everyone said you'd never amount to
    anything, am I right?

    FELIX
    You're right.

    DARLENE
But here you are, in an impossible
    place, with an impossible Pokemon,
all thanks to your inventions. You
can only go up from here,
    understand?

    FELIX
    Yes.
    Snorlax shakes her head.

    DARLENE
Okay, let's see what we got.
She looks at the pictures of Celebi on her phone, a drop of
sweat falls to the screen, she wipes her forehead.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
Why is it so hot? Did you leave the
    engine on?

    FELIX
If this thing had it's engine
    running you'd be hearing it.
Felix wipes his own sweaty forehead. He stares at Darlene,
    she stares back.

    FELIX & DARLENE
    Entei...

A ROAR is heard from outside.

Darlene grabs the cage containing Celebi and, with Felix,
Weavile and Snorlax, retreat to the caverns rear.

Snorlax pushes aside a boulder, revealing another cavernous
room, all four slip inside. Snorlax pulls back the boulder.

ENTEI, a massive quadruped, mane billowing like smoke, enters
    the cavern.

With his blazing eyes, he scans the area, the machines, the
cages, obvious signs of human activity.

From his glowing throat, he releases an intense flame that
causes the locks on the cages to BUCKLE AND BREAK.

The imprisoned Pokemon are now free, they flee to the cave
entrance as Darlene and Felix watch.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    (Whispering)
    No!
    FELIX
    Shh!
Entei turns to the aircraft, approaches.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    (Whispering)
    No, please no.
Entei ROARS. The ground SHAKES. PILLARS OF LAVA spurts up
    from underneath the aircraft.

The aircraft overturns, flaming, a huge chunk taken out the
    side.

    The lava cools. Entei leaves.

Snorlax throws the boulder aside as Felix runs to his ruined
    invention.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    It's over. We're stranded. We're
    stuck here forever.

    DARLENE
Cool it, we're not stranded. Celebi
can get us outta here. We'll walk
back to Ibex forest, open up that
tree and we're saved. We still have
    a map right?
He reaches into his pocket, then another pocket, and another.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    You lost the Pokedex?

Felix clasps his head in his hands.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
Unbelievable, did it ever occur to
you to get a paper map?

    FELIX
    I'm sorry, I didn't mean it...
Weavile clears her throat. Everyone turns to her. She takes
out the cherry from behind her ear.

    DARLENE
    Weavile! That's my baby!

    FELIX
A cherry? How does that help us?
Darlene takes the cherry and walks over to a patch of soil,
where light is filtering in through the cave.

Darlene plants the cherry, it starts to glow.

The seed gives off sparks, immediately growing into a tree
    sapling.

    DARLENE
If we can't find a way back, we'll
    make our own.

    EXT. MAHOGANY FOREST - MORNING

Christopher, Alma, Berny, Phyllis and Razer walk along a
brook, a waterfall up ahead. Alma inspects a bunch of
    berries.

    ALMA
Let's see if I got this right, blue
berries are for when a Pokemon puts
you to sleep, red berries are for
    paralysis, green berries cure
    confusion and this helps relieve
    stress.
She holds up a root, breaks a piece off and hands it to
    Christopher.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    (To Christopher)
    Try it.
Christopher takes the root and holds it to his mouth.

Unseen by Christopher, Alma puts the root in her pocket and
    takes out a different root.

He stops. He glares at Alma.

She smile. She eats the root and swallows.

He eats the root. He gags. He spits it out. She laughs.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Why you!
He chases Alma up the stream. They are stopped.

SCIZOR, a giant, humanoid ant-like creature with red, iron
skin blocks their path with claws poised to strike.

From behind the trees, more Scizors fly out, forming a
    barricade before the waterfall.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Alma, get back!

    ALMA
Honestly, its just a swarm of giant
    insects.

    (To Phyllis)
Go on, do the rope thingy.
Phyllis steps forward, summons a grass rope, the rope shoots
    towards the first Scizor.

The Scizor dodges, snipping the rope with its claw, the rope
    falls to the ground.

Phyllis tries summoning two more, dodge, snip, dodge, snip.

Phyllis summons several ropes toward all the Scizors, they
all dodge, they all cut the ropes.

They start to close in on the gang. Phyllis lowers her leaf
    and steps back.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Okay then, bad match-up, let's try
    something different. Razer, off you
    go.
Razer, runs up to the Scizor, biting its leg. It kicks
forward, Razer is flung forward, Alma catches him.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Okay, that didn't work either.
Wait, fire is strong against bug
    types, and steel types too.

    (To Berny)
    Light em up.

Berny springs forward, shooting a stream of flame.

The Scizor retaliates by flapping its wings rapidly, blowing
    back the stream of fire.

The Scizor draws close, then kicks back Berny.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Ugh, come on!

    CHRISTOPHER
Alma, I think we should retreat.

    ALMA
Retreat? The map says Team Zephyr
HQ is right behind that waterfall,
we're too close to give up now.

    (To the Scizors)
    Now you listen to me.
Alma starts walking forward, the others hold their positions
    behind her.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    You better move or...

The Scizors approach her, she backs up.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
...you'll be sorry. I mean it,
    don't mess with me.
    I don't need Pokemon because I am a
fighting type, let me tell you.
Alma steps down on a Parasect, an insect with a mushroom on
its back. She squashes its mushroom, releasing a Stun Spore.

Alma, goes as stiff as a board, then falls like a mannequin,
making a loud "clunk" on the rocks.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Alright, we're done here.
He picks up Alma, still stiff like a mannequin, and holds her
    in both arms.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Sorry for the trouble.
    (To Phyllis, Razer and
    Berny)
    Come on, time to retreat.
He turns and leaves, Phyllis, Berny and Razer follow. Alma's
head hits the rocks in the brook as he walks away.

    ALMA
    Ow...Ow...Ow

    CHRISTOPHER
    ...Sorry...Sorry...Sorry

EXT. BANK OF MAHOGANY LAKE - AFTERNOON

The brook flows into a lake, surrounded by scarlet trees. In
the center of the lake is an island, where a decrepit dojo
sits. A bridge connects the edge of the lake to the dojo.
At the point where the brook meets the lake, Christopher sets
up the paralyzed Alma on her feet and digs through her bag.
He takes out several berries and starts sorting through them.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Cures a burn... cures confusion...
    cures poisoning.

    ALMA
    Christopher, I'm falling!
    CLUNK.

    CHRISTOPHER
Here it is. Red berry, cures
    paralysis.

    (Looks at Alma)
    Oh Alma, silly Alma.

    ALMA
This isn't funny now give me the
    berry already.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Oh, sure thing.
Christopher puts the berry in her hand.

    ALMA
Ha ha. You are SO funny.

Christopher takes it out her hand and puts it in her mouth.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Sorry, couldn't resist.

The berry takes effect immediately, Alma's body returns to
    normal.

    ALMA
Right, back to business. We still
need to get to Felix, but we can't
do that if the Scizors aren't going
to let us past. They're a bit
tougher than I thought they'd be.

    CHRISTOPHER
    A bit tougher?
    (Gestures to Razor, Berny
    and Phyllis)
They made fools out of them, utter
fools. We can't go back unless we
    find some stronger Pokemon.
Across the river, Alma spies a Marowak, a masked bipedal
creatures wielding a bone like sword and a Cubone, a similar
    but smaller creature.

The Marowak spars with its Cubone student.

The Cubone successfully deflects Marowaks blows with its
bone. Sparks surround its body as it evolves.

    Now there are two Marowaks.

    ALMA
We don't need to find stronger
    Pokemon. We can make them.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Make stronger Pokemon?
She takes out the Pokedex and boots it up. She brings up the
    Totodile evolution line.

    ALMA
    Look, Totodile evolves twice. They
    look pretty strong huh?
Razer jumps for joy, Berny glares at Alma and clears his
    throat.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    (To Berny)
Yeah alright, I'm getting to you.
She brings up the Cyndaquil line.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Cyndaquil also evolves twice and
    they also look pretty strong.

    CHRISTOPHER
I think these look a bit better.

Berny smirks at Razer, who shifts away from him. Alma brings
    up the Chikorita evolution line.

    ALMA
    Chikorita, Bayleef...but no more
    than that.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Maybe her evolution hasn't been
    discovered yet.

    ALMA
    Besides that though, Phyllis has
been doing all the heavy lifting so
far. I say it's time we get the
other two some training. Once they
evolve, we'll head back up the
stream and give those Scizors' the
    old one-two, right guys?
Berny fires up his back and Razer's spines sharpen. They both
    give a nod.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    That's the spirit.

    CHRISTOPHER
And how exactly do you intend to do
    the training?
Alma looks at the multi-tiered dojo in the center of the
island, which has a wooden statue of a Hitmonlee &
Hitmonchan, two humanoid creatures, on top.

Large missing segments of the building reveal the insides.

The dojo is full of training equipment.

    ALMA
When in Johto, do as the Johtonians
    do.

    INT. DOJO - AFTERNOON

The gang are standing in the ground floor of the decrepit
dojo. The various equipment used for training includes wooden
automatons of large fighting figures, both humanoid and
Pokemon-like. Alma tries pulling wooden levels attached to
the figures, they move their wooden arms in response.

Berny and Razer ready themselves to attack before the
automaton, pushing and shoving to stand in the center.

    ALMA
Easy there, let's start with the
basics first before we use these.
She picks up a small training dummy, the same size as Razer,
battered from centuries of taking blows.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
From what I've read about Scizors,
they think fast and adapt fast.
You'll need to be versatile to take
    them on. Luckily, you're Pokemon,
    versatility is your middle name.
She places the dummy in front of Razer.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Okay Razer, this is your enemy.
When you see it, what's the first
    thing you do?
Razer leaps at the dummy, sinking his teeth into it, trying
    to rip it apart.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Okay, enough. These don't grow on
    trees.
Alma prizes Razer off the dummy and puts him on the floor.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
So, you rely on your mouth to
attack. However, what if you can't
    use your mouth?

    (To Phyllis)
Could I get some rope, please?
Phyllis summons a grass rope and seals Razers' mouth shut.
Razer, tries to get it off.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Ah, ah, ahh. No mouth allowed.
Think, what else can you use?

Razer charges and headbutts the dummy, he rebounds, lands on
    his back. Berny laughs.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Giving up already? What about your
tail? Give it a good smack.
Razer gets up, he lightly slaps the dummy with his tail,
looks at Alma and shrugs. She rubs her temples.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
I'll get back to you later.
She takes the dummy and puts it in front of Berny.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Okay Berny. What's the first thing
    you do when...

Bernys' back lights up, he blasts fires from his nostrils at
    the dummy.

Alma screams, she wrestles the rope off Razer, who sprays the
    dummy with water, extinguishing it.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Everything under control, Alma?

    ALMA
Yes, as a matter of fact.
    (To Berny)
    Right, your favourite weapon is
    fire, who'd have thought? Now,
let's see you use something else.
    No fire allowed.

    (To Razer)
If he even thinks about it, you
    know what to do.
Razer gives Berny a toothy grin, and a wink for good measure.
    Berny tries to ignore him.

He turns to the dummy, pausing to think. Flames cover his
back, and then they disappear as Razer soaks him with water.

Razer laughs at Berny, Berny growls at Razer, sharp badger-
like claws extending. Alma points to his claws.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
There, see those? That's what I
mean when I say attack with no
fire. Think you can use them?

Berny nods. Once again he turns to the dummy, claws bared.
    Suddenly, his claws retract.

Berny, observes his nail-less digits, flinging his paws to
try and get the claws to extend again.

    CHRISTOPHER
Maybe you're not cut out for this
    Pokemon trainer stuff.

    ALMA
You can't talk, you're the only one
    here who's not doing anything.

    CHRISTOPHER
Don't exactly have much to do
    though, do I?

    ALMA
    (To Phyllis)
    Any ideas?
Phyllis's face beams, she jumps to her feet. She grabs
Christopher by his collar and pulls him up to his feet.

She beckons to him with her leaf. She heads across the bridge
    to the lake bank.

    CHRISTOPHER
Okay, I'll just follow her, I
    guess. Good luck, Alma.

EXT. BANK OF MAHOGANY LAKE - AFTERNOON

Phyllis summons a thin string of grass, Christopher watches.
The string wraps around a stick.

Phyllis cuts off the end a branch of a thorny bush with its
leaf. The grass string wraps around the thorny "hook".

She then severs the grass from the ground and, using her
leaf, flicks the stick up to Christopher, who catches it.

He now holds a fishing rod, the stick as the rod, the thorns
as a treble hook and the leaves from the thorns as a lure.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Fishing? That's what we're doing?

Phyllis makes an identical fishing rod for herself, the
string tied around her leaf, which she uses as a rod.

She casts the line into the lake. She glares at Christopher,
gesturing toward the lake with her head.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
I don't think so. Look, it was fun,
the games we played all those years
ago, but when you grow up your mind
    is generally on other things.

Phyllis jabs him with her leg.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Ow, okay, fine then.

He casts his fishing rod. Each line sits beside each other in
    the water. Nothing happens.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Did I mention my family have no
    money and are probably wondering
where I am? Seems like fishing
    isn't exactly the most productive
use of my time right now.

Suddenly, a fish latches onto Christopher's hook.
He responds by yanking his fishing rod above his head and
backing up away from the water, the line snaps.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
What was that? Fat lot of use your
fishing rods are. How am I supposed
to fish if the lines don't work?

A fish latches onto Phyllis's hook. Phyllis pulls back.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
What are you waiting for? It's on
the line, get it out the water.

Phyllis ignores him, focusing on the fish. She skillfully
uses the line to play the fish, tiring it out.

As she bides her time, she looses slack when she needs to by
winding the line around her leaf.

The fish is exhausted. Phyllis reels it in. It's a Seaking, a
large goldfish with a horn on its head.

EXT. BANK OF MAHOGANY LAKE - EVENING

Christopher, Alma and the three Pokemon sit around a small
bundle of sticks. Berny lights up the bundle of sticks. Alma
scans the caught Seaking with the Pokedex.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Really? After everything Felix did
to us, you're still trying to make
    him happy?

    ALMA
You have to admit it's neat. Seems
like a waste not to use it. Oh,
before I forget, check this out.

She takes a piece of dojo floor plank and holds it in front
of Razer. He snaps it in half with his tail.

    CHRISTOPHER
Wow, didn't think he could do it.

    ALMA
    I know right? Here, let's try a
    thicker one.
She picks up a thicker plank. Razer snaps it half with his
    tail, Christopher and Alma applaud.

Razer gives Berny another grin and a wink. Smoke rises from
Berny's glowing back and out from his snarling mouth.

    CHRISTOPHER
Go on, another. This is fun.

    ALMA
    Okay, maybe one more.
She holds out another plank, a fiery projectile splits it
    open.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Berny)
Oi, don't do that. You could have
    hit Alma.
Razer retaliates by squirting water at Berny.

    ALMA
Hey now, let's not start a fight,
    okay?

They start attacking each other with fire and water.

Alma stands but is careful not to get too close, she waves to
    get their attention.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Um, excuse me? Hello? We're trying
to have a nice time so, um, could
    you just calm down? Please?
They completely ignore her, continuing their fight.

Phyllis rolls her eyes and waves her leaf, Razer and Berny
    become ensnared in grass.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Well that's concerning. How are
they supposed to evolve if they've
    ripped each other to shreds?

    ALMA
    Nobody's perfect. Everyone gets
stressed from time to time. Plus,
they've had a long day. Tomorrow
will be better, I know it.
MONTAGE - MAHOGANY LAKE - VARIOUS

    - In the dojo, Berny and Razer shoot moving targets with
    Alma's help.

    - By the lake, Christopher takes note of Phyllis's fishing
    techniques.

    - Razer outperforms Berny at shooting targets.

    - Christopher tries playing a fish, it gets away.

    - Razer and Berny run through a wooden gauntlet. Berny fails,
Razer succeeds and evolves, growing larger, into a Croconaw.

    - Night, around the campfire. Razer, with a wooden club,
shows off his skills, receiving applause from all but Berny.

    - Day, Christopher fishes again under Phyllis's guidance,
fails again, throws his rod and storms off.

    - In the gauntlet again, Berny gets in Razer's way to finish
the gauntlet, Berny evolves into the stoat-like Quilava.

EXT. BANK OF MAHOGANY LAKE - EVENING

Once again surrounding the campfire, the gang watch Berny,
showing off his new form by firing a series of fire blasts in
the air, bursting like fireworks. Bird Pokemon flee from the
trees in response to the noise.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Alright, that's enough, you're
    disturbing the wildlife.

Berny stops. Alma takes a bite of cooked fish.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Mmm, delicious. Is this your catch
    Christopher?

    CHRISTOPHER
No, once again, it's not mine. Some
    good these lessons are doing.
Phyllis slaps him on the shoulder, he recoils.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Ow. You know I'm right. Maybe it's
you, maybe it's me, but either way
it's a bloomin waste of time.

Phyllis turns her nose up at Christopher and shuffles away,
    He does the same.

Alma turns to see Razer and Berny fighting over a piece of
fish, each end in their mouths.

    ALMA
    There they go again.
    (Calling)
    Hey, stop it!
Berny and Razor keep fighting over the fish.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Of course, they won't listen. No-
one listens to me. Sometimes I just
    want to...
She picks up a twig and snaps it in two.

    CHRISTOPHER
If that's how you feel, they need
to know otherwise they won't stop.

    ALMA
I want to let them know how I feel,
trust me. But I can't. Think about
it. They're bigger now, tougher, a
    little more competitive. But
they're still the same little guys
we played with as kids. I can't get
angry at them. I just can't.

    CHRISTOPHER
Oh what do I care? By tomorrow none
of this will matter anyway. If they
want to act like wild dogs, they
can do it when the Scizors show up.
They watch the two fighting over the fish. The sun sets.

    ACT 2 (part 2)

EXT. BANK OF MAHOGANY LAKE - MORNING

The gang are sleeping under the cover of the dojo. Two
shadows loom over them. The shadows belong to the STRANGER, a
tall figure wearing metal armour, face concealed with a
helmet, and YANMEGA, a giant dragonfly wearing a sachel.

Everyone wakes up, then they back away from the intruders.

    STRANGER
    Is this it?

Christopher and Alma stand. Neither respond.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
    A Croconaw, a Bayleef and a
Quilava? You really are in over
    your heads aren't you?

    CHRISTOPHER
Look, the whole "cryptic man with
no past" gimmick is cute, but we're
not in the mood. We got here by
accident. We're trying to get out.

    STRANGER
No-one comes to Johto by accident.
Tell me, what desire led you to
    this land? Power? Money? Knowledge?

    ALMA
I have a better question. What
desire led YOU to this land?
The Stranger takes a large fruit from the satchel.

    STRANGER
Ah, responding to a question with
    another question, interrogation
    will clearly get us nowhere.
He throws the fruit into the air. Yanmega catches it in his
jaws and chews it, bits of fruit flying everywhere.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
    Impressive mandibles, are they not?
    Like swords. Perfect for shredding
the flesh and grinding the bones.

    CHRISTOPHER
Lucky you have plenty of fruit to
    feed him with, eh?

    STRANGER
There's no short supply of Aspear
    berries. Humans are considerably
    rarer, tastier too.
    Yanmega approaches the gang.

Phyllis, Berny and Razer stand guard before Christopher and
Alma, poised to attack, Razer with the thick club in hand.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
    Defending the trespassers. Poor
    misguided things. All right, start
    with the Bayleef.
Yanmega opens its mouth, releasing sonic waves that engulf
Phyllis. She collapses to the floor writhing.

The waves stop, she stands, turns toward Christopher, her
    eyes turn bloodshot.

    CHRISTOPHER
What's happening? What did you do
    to her?

    STRANGER
    Confused? So is she.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Phyllis)
    Phyllis, it's me, Christopher,
    remember?
Phyllis strikes out with her leaf. She KNOCKS CHRISTOPHER
BACKWARDS, he falls flat on his back.

    ALMA
    Christopher! Hold on.

Alma takes her bag and pulls out a green berry. She DROPS IT
as a grass rope constricts her wrist.

As PHYLLIS waves her leaf like a wand, everyone, save for
Yanmega, the Stranger, and herself is constricted.

BERNY growls, lights up his back, BURNING THE GRASS, he's
    free.

He runs for the green berry, Phyllis BLOCKS his way.

She STABS at Berny with her leaf, he darts in and out of her
    legs.

YANMEGA draws close to the trapped Razer, mouth open. He
    BLASTS Razer with SUPERSONIC WAVES.

Razer retaliates, SMACKS him on the jaw with his club.

    Yanmega SKITTERS across the floor.

Razer gnaws his ropes, freeing himself, runs for the berry.

PHYLLIS KNOCKS away Berny, turns to Razer, waves her leaf.

Razer reaches for the berry, his arms HELD IN PLACE by grass.

Phyllis approaches Razer, waving her leaf RIGID LIKE A SWORD.

She lets loose an enraged ROAR.

Razer uses his tail to FLICK THE BERRY into her mouth.

Phyllis gulps, the berry landing dead center at the back of
her throat. Her eyes return to normal.

YANMEGA gets up, takes flight, let's loose another BLAST OF
SOUND, Razer, Berny and Phyllis caught in the sound waves.

Phyllis waves her leaf, grass wraps around her head, covering
her ears. The same happens to Berny and Razer.

Berny charges a fire blast, FIRES a projectile at Yanmega.

BANG. Knocks him back, he COLLIDES with the stranger.

THE STRANGER is knocked out of the dojo. CRACK. The helmet
    hits a rock, breaks open.

Phyllis uses her leaf to cut Chistopher and Alma free.

The stranger stands. The gang collectively gasp.

    STRANGER
    That hurt.

    The stranger's face is zombie-like, razor-sharp cheekbones,
eyes sunken into their sockets, hair wiry and grey.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
Look at my face. Does it make you
sick? I'll do worse to yours, mark
    my words.
A huge silhouette passes under the surface of the lake.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
Or, maybe I'll allow the pleasure
to go to a third party. Yanmega,
    use Supersonic on the Lapras.
Yanmega blasts sonic waves into the lake.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Lapras? What's a Lapras?

    ALMA
Don't ask me, the library had
    nothing on any "Lapras".
A horrid noise echoes across the lake.

LAPRAS, a plesiosaurus with a turtle shell on its back,
three-stories big, eyes bloodshot, crashes through the
    surface of the lake.

The gang watches through an opening in the wall as Lapras
CRASHES through the water. It gallops to the dojo.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Nope, too big.

He turns and makes a run for the bridge connecting the island
    dojo to the lakes shore.

YANMEGA swoops in and SMASHES the bridge clean in two.

    STRANGER
Did I say you could leave?

He mounts Yanmega, they rise high up into the air.

    CHRISTOPHER
Alma, what do we do? Alma?

He turns to see Alma running up the dojo staircase to the
roof, her backpack in her hands.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    What are you doing?

    ALMA
I need to get the berries into its
    mouth.

    CHRISTOPHER
But it's coming in too fast.

    ALMA
I know, which is why I need Phyllis
    to buy me some time.

    (To Razer and Berny)
    You two can help.
Alma emerges at the top of the roof, at the base of the two
statues. Lapras's head high above her level.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Still not high enough...

She climbs up the Hitmonchan statue, bag on her back.

THE STRANGER watches from up high. He sees a large quadruped
    beast approach the lakes shore.

    STRANGER
Do you see that Yanmega? We must
get as far away from here as
    possible. GO!
They fly away into the distance.

AT THE ISLAND SHORE. The three Pokemon run out to the water,
    facing Lapras as she approaches.

Berny sees Razer step forward, looking heroic. Too heroic.

Berny jumps on his head, readying a fiery attack.

Razer shakes him off. Berny spits a fireball at Razer.

Razer swipes at Berny with his club, misses, STRIKES PHYLLIS,
she's knocked out. Razer & Berny continue their fight.

ALMA looks down to see two Pokemon going carnal and one
    unconscious Pokemon.

    ALMA
What are you doing? Stop! This is
    the worst possible time.
One of Berny's fireballs is deflected by Razer, it flies
toward Alma. FWOOSH. It severs the rucksack straps.

The rucksack falls off Alma's back, falling to the lake
    below.

A Seaking LEAPS out of the water, the spike on its head
    spearing the bag.

CHRISTOPHER sees the fish carrying the bag underwater.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Berny and Razer)
    Oh you utter plonkers!

He looks around, sees the fishing rod. He grabs it.

LAPRAS clambers onto the island shore, Razer and Berny back
away as Lapras passes by them.

The creature clambers onto the side of the dojo and cranes
her neck toward ALMA, head angled up.

Lapras SNAPS her jaws at Alma, inches below her feet. Alma
tries scrambling onto the head of the statue.

A giant paw steps inches away from her fingers.

Alma looks up to see ENTEI standing on the statue head.

    ALMA
    Entei?
    Entei glares at her.

AT THE ISLAND SHORE, Christopher has his line cast. The
Seaking that carries the bag bites the line.

Christopher uses everything he knows to play the fish, he
gives slack, he looses slack, he bows when the fish leaps.

PHYLLIS comes around. As her vision returns, she sees
    Christopher playing the fish.

AT THE STATUE HEAD, Lapras continues to SNAP SNAP SNAP.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Please! I'm begging you. Help!

ENTEI rests a paw on her hand.

AT THE ISLAND SHORE, As the fish becomes tired, Christopher
reels it in, he reaches for the bag caught on its spike.

AT THE STATUE HEAD, Entei PUSHES Alma's hand away from the
    ledge. SHE FALLS.

SNAP. Lapras gulps her up in one bite.

    Razer and Berny gasp.

Entei nods, leaps down to the island below, bounds over the
broken bridge and vanishes into the trees.

    A moment of silence...

Lapras CHOKES. She GAGS. Then she COUGHS OUT ALMA, she
    tumbles onto the island below.

Lapras spits out something else, it lands onto the island
below. It's the disgusting root that Alma had in her pocket.

Christopher runs over to Alma who is covered in saliva. He
has the bag in his hand.

    CHRISTOPHER
Alma, I just saw Entei! Hey, what
happened? Did Lapras try to eat
    you?

    ALMA
No, I just like to walk around
covered in slime, it's so chic.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Look out!
Alma turns, Lapras cranes her neck down to him, mouth wide
    open ready to BITE.

Christopher SWINGS his arm, the bag goes flying, into the
beasts open mouth, as Alma PULLS HIM OUT THE WAY.

SNAP. Lapras bites down, missing them. She chews the bag,
    swallows.

She stares at the two, eyes still bloodshot. It gives a
    PIERCING cry.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    It's not working!

Lapras lunges her head forward for another bite. She stops.

Her breathing becomes softer. Her eyes become normal.

Lapras bows her head before to them. Alma returns the bow.

Christopher doesn't. She slaps him. He hastily bows.

Lapras raises her head, then shuffles her body 180 degrees.

The two watch as Lapras moves out into the lake and dive
    down.

    Everything is quiet.

INT. TEAM ZEPHYR HIDEOUT - DAY

The sapling has grown into small tree. Darlene and Weavile
watch the sprout slowly grow, her body laid out on the floor,
chin resting on the palm of their hand, eyes heavy.

Snorlax and Felix are sitting further behind them, scooping
out the beans and rice from their emergency reserve packets.

    FELIX
Snorlax, can I ask you something.
Snorlax looks over, swallows its food and nods.

Felix beacons to him, Snorlax leans in close. He speaks
    quietly.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    I've made mistakes. I've made
    horrible, horrible mistakes. Is
there any point in trying to make
things right again? I used to think
    so, but now...
He goes quiet, continues eating. Snorlax rests a large paw on
his shoulder and says something in her own tongue.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    Really? After everything I've done?

    Snorlax smiles and nods.

    DARLENE
That's more like it. Check it out!
An arch shaped groove appears in the tree, like a closed
    door.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
That's our ticket outta here, baby!
    (To Celebi)
    Hey, onion-head, you're up.

    FELIX
If you can, we need you to make a
portal from this tree to one back
    in Anglis, preferably keeping the
    time-frame unchanged.

    DARLENE
    Nah, don't think so.

    FELIX
    Wait, what?

    DARLENE
Imagine if we never got this "time-
    travelling" Pokemon to travel
through time. Forget going home, we
have the whole history of Johto in
the palms of our hands. Let's do
    something with it.

    FELIX
Oh for goodness sake, I should've
known this was going to happen.

    DARLENE
Think! We can go to the future and
    bring back artifacts that don't
exist yet. Or what about the
    opposite? We can convince an
    ancient civilization that we're
gods and build our own empire.

    FELIX
So you want to re-write the course
of history and possibly alter the
    present with catastrophic results?

    DARLENE
There's gonna be a storm all right.
And I plan to be in the eye of it.

    (To Celebi)
Onions, start by taking us back.
    Celebi shakes her head.

    FELIX
I don't think she wants too.

    DARLENE
    Oh she will.
She nods at Weavile. Weavile extends her claws and snarls at
Celebi. Petrified, she obeys Darlene's orders.

EXT. MAHOGANY FOREST - SAME TIME

Christopher, Alma and the three Pokemon are walking up-
stream, approaching the waterfall a second time. Berny and
Razer walking opposite sides of the stream.

    CHRISTOPHER
So if Entei is real, does that mean
Ho-oh is real too? And what about
    Lugia? Or Ho-oh's other guardians?
Alma's head is tilted to the ground, hands in pockets.

    ALMA
    Maybe, I don't know.

    CHRISTOPHER
And who was the guy with the pasty
white skin? Is he human? A Pokemon
wearing the skin of a human? I have
    so many questions right now.

    ALMA
    Huh, yeah, sure.

    CHRISTOPHER
You all right Alma? Still shaken?

    ALMA
    Not really it's just...never mind.
Alma notices Phyllis grinning at him.

    CHRISTOPHER
    What are you smiling at?

Phyllis points to him with her leaf and then pretends to cast
a line, referring to his actions back at the lake.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Oh, you liked my fishing did you?

    Phyllis nods her head.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Good for you. Don't expect it to
happen a second time. Thanks for
    teaching me though, I guess.
Phyllis gives him a peck on the cheek. Christopher pushes her
    head away.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    OI! Leave it out, leafy.
The group approach the pool the waterfall pours into. The
Scizors leap into their path, as they did before.

Berny bounds onto a rock in the center of the stream, poised
    to strike.

Razer has the same idea, tripping over Berny as he does so.
Once again, the two start fighting.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Here we go again. Pokemon Kain and
    Pokemon Abel.
Razer sprays water at Berny, misses and SOAKS ALMA. She
gasps. Berny and Razer stop fighting.

    Silence...

She let's out a ROAR that causes bird Pokemon to flee from
her nests. Christopher covers his ears.

    ALMA
    RIGHT, YOU!
    (Points at Berny)
    Over here.
    (Points by her feet)
    YOU!
    (Points at Razer)
    Here.
    (Points by her feet)
Razer chuckles, Alma points at him.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Don't you dare laugh at me. Wipe
that smile off your face right now
or I'll pluck every single tooth
out of your mouth. Let's see how
    well you smile then.
Razer closes his mouth. Berny chuckles. Alma points at him.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Same goes to you too you little
runt. Now get over here, the pair
    of you.
The two walk over to her.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
I give every ounce of energy I have
for you. What do I get out of it?
    Nothing. Nothing but wet clothes.
Do you have any idea how cold this
water is? I could die of pneumonia.
As she rants, the Scizors try tip-toeing away. She points at
    them.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
You lot stay right where you are.
I'll get to you in a bit, just you
    wait.
The Scizors return to their positions.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    (To the naughty Pokemon)
Here's how it goes. I say
something, you do it, I give an
order, you follow it, I talk, you
listen. No ifs, no buts. And above
all, you don't lay a finger on each
other ever again. If I want you
torn limb from limb, I'll do it
    myself.

    (Points to Berny)
    You, don't move.
She walks over to Razer, grabs him by the spike on his head
and drags him toward the Scizors as he cries in pain.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Mouth open.
    (He opens it)
    Use water gun.

Razer sprays high-pressure water at the Scizors, with a much
wider and further reach than when he was a Totodile.

Alma tilts his head as she aims the water. The Scizors group
close together to form a barricade against the deluge.

They are soaked but they don't move.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Stop.
    (He stops)
She drags Razer back to Berny's position, grabs Berny by the
scruff of his neck, brings him over to the Scizors.

Anticipating fire, the Scizors try to flap their wings. They
    can't.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Wings aren't very useful when
    they're wet, are they?

    (Holds Berny forward)
    Use flamethrower.
Berny spits a large plume of fire from his mouth. The Scizors
duck to the ground, clambering over each other to escape.

They flee into the woods, crying. Alma turns to Christopher
and Phyllis, whose mouths hang open.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    What?
INT. TEAM ZEPHYR HIDEOUT - SAME TIME

The tree-door is open, displaying large rolling hills on the
other side as Rapidash's, horses with fiery manes, gallop.

    DARLENE
    Boooring. Go back.

Celebi, still in her cage, gives a half-hearted flick of her
    hand.

The scene on the other side "rewinds" as the time frame rolls
    backwards.

Figures that look like humans appear to flicker across the
    scene.

    FELIX
    Stop!
Celebi flicks her hand again. The rewinding stops and the
scene continues as though time were flowing normally.

Farmers, dressed in straw rain-coats and bowl-shaped bamboo
hats, are working with Pokemon amongst fields of rice.

Behind them, a fortress sits atop a faraway hill.

Felix clasps his hands in his mouth.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    I don't believe what I'm seeing. An
    instance of early mutualism between
human and Pokemon. We need to get a
    camera, now.

    DARLENE
It's a bunch of farmers wearing
stupid hats who happen to have
    Pokemon, what's so mind-blowing
    about that?

    FELIX
    It's mind-blowing because of how
    little is understood about what
    happened between humans and
Pokemon. If we can record even just
    a few minutes of this...

    DARLENE
    You're thinking too small! I don't
    want farmers, I don't want
    "melonism", or whatever you call
it. I want bigger. I want better.
A shadow envelops the farmers as they cower before a large
    black object in the sky.

Eclipsing the sun is a gargantuan, airborne fortress.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    I want that!
She takes a pair of hi-tech binoculars out of pocket and
    peers at the castle.

She sees a man in a black kimono walk out onto a balcony with
a Tyranitar, a huge bipedal lizard with rocky armour.

The man points forward, the beast summons several large
boulders, launches them forward like cannonballs.

One by one, the boulders punch their way into the grounded
fortress, slowly reducing it to nothing.

    FELIX
Well, I guess it's yours for the
taking, if it wasn't so high up.
And, also, if it didn't belong to
what must be one of the most
    powerful warlords in all of
    Johtonian history.

    DARLENE
    Getting there is easy.
She puts the binoculars to Celebi's cage. She looks through
    the binoculars.

She sees a segment of the castle that looks like a walled
    garden with a cherry blossom.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
Looks like someone got their hands
on one of your cherries, onions.
Now listen up, you're going to
connect us to that tree, at that
exact point in time. We clear?
Weavile threatens Celebi again. Celebi closes the tree-door.

    FELIX
    Darlene, you can't do this.

    DARLENE
    I haven't let you down before, I
    won't let you down now.
Celebi opens the tree door, a luscious garden on the other
side, castle walls behind the bushes.

Darlene wedges a large piece of scrap metal from the aircraft
    to wedge the door open.

    FELIX
    This is suicide!

    DARLENE
    Enough! Stop thinking about what's
impossible and think about what IS
    possible!

    FELIX
No Darlene, you only care about
    what's possible for yourself.

    DARLENE
What did you just say to me?

    FELIX
You know exactly what I said. My
    inventions, coming to Johto,
everything we do! It's never been
    about me, it's always you.

    DARLENE
Okay, you got a problem with that?
I mean it's not like you have the
    guts to stop me.
Felix takes a key from his pocket and unlocks Celebi's cage.
    She flies out.

    DARLENE (CONT’D)
    Hey!
Weavile makes a dash for Celebi, but a wall of water knocks
    her back.

Darlene turns to see Christopher, Alma and the three Pokemon.

    ALMA
    Hands off, Darlene.

    DARLENE
What? How did you find us? How are
    you even alive?
    Alma holds up the Pokedex.

    ALMA
Your little toy came in handy.

    FELIX
    My Pokedex!
    Darlene turns away from Alma.

    DARLENE
Oh, well what a shame. You got me.

She quickly turns and throws a vial of powder at Alma, who
catches it in one hand and puts it in her pocket.

    ALMA
    (To Darlene)
So, are we gonna rematch or what? I
    haven't got all day.
Felix runs over to the gang, Snorlax follows him.

    FELIX
    (To Darlene)
    Ha, you're outnumbered now!

    CHRISTOPHER
Oh, you're on our side now?

    FELIX
Didn't you see me free Celebi? I'm
    a good guy now.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Ooh-er, my knight in shining
    armour, thank you for doing
something we could have easily done
    ourselves. Please, carry me off
    into the sunset!

    ALMA
    (To Darlene)
    Hey, Darlene! You seem awfully
quiet. You're not scared, are you?
Darlene sweats, she backs away with her Weavile as the four
Pokemon and the three humans approach her.

    HISAO (O.S.)
    My, my. How curious.

HISAO KOBAYASHI (20s), the man in the black kimono, wanders
from the garden through the open tree-door.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
A magic cave inside my cherry
    blossom.

    (Toward the garden)
    Hypno, you must see this.
From out of the tree-door emerges HYPNO, a cross between an
ape and a tapir, levitating cross-legged out of the door.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Look at them. How strange their
    attire is. Are they peasants?
    Farmers? Nobleman? I cannot say.

    ALMA
We're actually in the middle of
    something right now. You're not
meant to be here. Turn around and
    leave, now.

    HISAO
    Hypno...
Hypno waves a pendulum in its hand. SNORLAX, ALMA, RAZER, and
BERNY become transfixed and fall asleep.

    FELIX
    Don't look at it!
CHRISTOPHER, FELIX, CELEBI and PHYLLIS look away.

    DARLENE
    (To Hisao)
Hey, thanks for dealing with her.
Hypno turns his pendulum to DARLENE and WEAVILE, they sleep.

    HISAO
Silent women are my favourite type
    of woman.
The man in the kimono turns and looks up through the opening
in the cave where light pours in, he sees the outside world.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Ah, it all makes sense now. This
    isn't a magic cave inside a tree,
    it's an entirely new world.

    CHRISTOPHER
Exactly who are you supposed to be?

    HISAO
You may address me as Lord Hisao
Kobayashi, soon to be Lord of all
Johto, maybe even more than that.

    (To Hypno)
    Go on, get to work.
Hypno levitates to the sleeping Alma.

    CHRISTOPHER
If you lay a finger on her...

    HISAO
Don't you start, the last person
who tried opposing me now has
boulders in his fortress. His land
is mine now, and once I extract
    enough information concerning this
new world, I intend to claim
    considerably more.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Extract information?

    HISAO
    Yes, telepathically. You can learn
an awful lot by eating dreams.
Hypno rests a hand on Hisao's head, gestures with the other.

A stream of pink energy rises from Alma's head into his
    tapir-like nostrils.

    CHRISTOPHER
    No!

Celebi flies over to Hypno, SNATCHES the pendulum out his
hand. She throws it to Christopher.

Phyllis follows and STRIKES him with her leaf. He SOARS over
through the tree-door, collapsing into the garden.

He looks up and sees Christopher & Felix trying to dislodge
the metal scrap piece holding the door frame open.

He flicks his wrist. Using telekinesis, he PUSHES them back.

They tumble across the ground, Felix gets his ankle caught
    under some scrap metal.

Celebi flies though the tree-door, into the garden, to Hypno
    and YANKS his fur.

Hypno FLINGS her out the garden with telekinesis, she
    PINWHEELS away from the fortress.

Grass constricts Hypno as PHYLLIS, in the cave, waves her
leaf at him, he retaliates by FORCING her to the ground with
    his mind.

They are stuck in a stalemate, each using all their might to
pin the other down, Phyllis being dragged closer to the door.

CHRISTOPHER runs to the tree, Hisao blocks his path.

    HISAO
    Not so fast, Christopher Corwin.
I'd like to make a deal with you.

    CHRISTOPHER
    You know my name?

    HISAO
I didn't get much from your friend,
    but she does contain some
    interesting information about you.
I know that you live in a tiny grey
box, I know that your family starve
themselves so you have more to eat.
He takes out a collection of red scales.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
I know that red Gyarados scales are
highly sought after in the world
that you come from. If you were to
sell them, you'd be rich beyond
    your wildest dreams. Your family
    would never go hungry again.
The glistening, crystalline red scales reflect in
Christopher's eyes. Felix sees the two talking.

    CHRISTOPHER
    You serious?

    HISAO
Very. All I ask in return is that
you let me keep the Bayleef.

    CHRISTOPHER
    You want Phyllis? Why?

    HISAO
She's highly trained, I can tell.
She'd be of great use to me. You'd
do the right thing, wouldn't you?
He walks closer to Hisao, reaching for the scales.

At the end of the garden, he sees Tyranitar walk into view.

Distracted, he doesn't he see Hisao SWIPE THE PENDULUM FROM
    HIS HANDS.

He throws it to Hypno, then shields his eyes.

Hypno grabs the pendulum as Tyranitar rips off the grassy
    binds holding him down.

PHYLLIS, CHRISTOPHER and FELIX turn to see a waving pendulum,
    they all fall asleep.

    ACT 2 (part 3)

    INT. HIDDEN ROOM - LATER

Hisao walks into a small, dimly lit but ornately decorated
chamber. By the walls, there sits BELLOSSOM, a small, green,
humanoid Pokemon, covered in petals, two flowers on her head.
She peers through a crack in the wall, seeing the world
    outside her chamber.

    HISAO
    Bellossom, you'll never believe the
    news I have. Bellossom?
Bellossom turns to face him, tears in her eyes.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Tears? What have you to be sad for?
You have everything you could want
    right here.
Bellossom points to the gap in the wall.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Oh, do stop this childishness. The
only thing that awaits you outside
these walls is danger. Do you not
    understand? The world has never
known a thing as rare and as
beautiful as you are. If you
perish, the world will know beauty
    no longer.
He crouches and takes her tiny, baby-like hands in his.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
I'll return when you have calmed
down. Know that you'll always be
    safe with me, my treasure.

Hisao stands and leaves the room.

INT. CHRISTOPHER'S HOUSE, KITCHEN - NIGHT

Christopher awakens, raising his head from his folded arms at
the table. Sitting at the table are his family.

    MR CORWIN
    Christopher! Thank goodness you're
    awake.

    GRAMPS
    We thought you was dead.

    MR CORWIN
Take it easy, you've been out a
    while.

    CHRISTOPHER
    How did I get here?

    GRAMPS
Some bloke in a fancy black costume
came through a tree, says he's done
with you, then he's off again, back
into the tree. Strange old geezer,
    you know him?

    CHRISTOPHER
Hisao! What has he done with Alma?
    And what about the Pokemon?

    MRS CORWIN
    They're safe, don't you worry.
    She's looking after the Pokemon.
    You've made some funny friends,
    haven't you?

    MR CORWIN
I'll admit, I am little jealous.
Mr Corwin stands, taking a pair of suitcases with him as he
    heads to the door.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Dad, you're walking again!

    GRAMPS
    It gets better than that
    Christopher. We're moving house.
Mrs Corwin stands, takes Gramps's wheelchair and guides him
out the door as they follow Mr Corwin.

    MRS CORWIN
We wanted to tell you sooner.

    GRAMPS
Lady luck's only gone and shone on
    us.

    CHRISTOPHER
Slow down, slow down! Why are we
    moving? When did this happen?
Mrs Corwin exits through the front door, where a moving van
can be seen on the drive.

    MRS CORWIN
We'll explain on the way. Now hurry
up and get your things, the vans
    leaving soon.
The door closes behind her. The lights begin flickering.
Christopher stands, approaches the closed door.

    CHRISTOPHER
Mum? Dad? Gramps? Are you there?
He takes the door handle. The lights start buzzing like mad
    insects.

He hears laughter on the other side of the door.

    He turns the handle.

    He swings the door open.

INT. MARBLE ROOM - SAME TIME

Christopher enters a large room of solid marble. Candle-
covered chandeliers dangle from the ceiling. Violinists stand
in the corner, playing a concerto. A round table in the
center, decorated with polished silverware, crockery and
glasses. At a round table sit his family, dressed in fine
clothing, eating venison. A seat is pulled out.

    MRS CORWIN
    Come, sit. This venison is
    exquisite.

    MR CORWIN
    Yes, sit Christopher, hurry before
    your food gets cold!
Christopher slowly walks to the seat, he sits.

    CHRISTOPHER
So, when you said we were moving
house, I assumed you meant an
    actual house. I wasn't expecting
    something quite this poncey.

    GRAMPS
    Why not?

    MR CORWIN
We can afford it after all. It's
    only money.

    CHRISTOPHER
Money, yeah. Last I checked, we
were coming up a bit short in that
    department. What happened?

    MRS CORWIN
    What happened? What happened!?
    His family burst out laughing.

    MRS CORWIN (CONT’D)
    You "happened" Christopher. We're
    rich beyond our wildest dreams
    thanks to you.

    GRAMPS & MR CORWIN
    Thanks to you.

    CHRISTOPHER
This is a trick, isn't it? Well it
    isn't funny. And besides, I haven't
    done anything.

    MRS CORWIN
Yes you have. You were faced with
the most important decision of your
    life.
A butler walks into the room with a tray covered in a silver
cloche. He places it on the table.

    MRS CORWIN (CONT’D)
And you did the right thing.

The butler rotates the tray on the table 180 degrees,
    Christopher's jaw drops.

He sees Phyllis's leaf poking out from under the cloche.

    MRS CORWIN (CONT’D)
    Mmmm...the final course. Shall we
    see what's inside?
She places her hand on the cloche.

    CHRISTOPHER
    No, don't do it. Please!

    MRS CORWIN
Don't be rude. This is a very
    special evening, we wouldn't want
    it spoiled now, would we?

    CHRISTOPHER
    I'm sorry, Phyllis. This wasn't
    meant to happen.

    MRS CORWIN
    Too late for apologies now,
    Christopher.
The walls start flickering, marble tiles overlap with one
another, like a glitched GameBoy game.

    The violinists start glitching.

The floors and table start glitching.

Christopher's family start glitching, their facing contorting
    into clownish abominations.

    MRS CORWIN (CONT’D)
    You...ma-a-ade...your...ch-ch-
    choice, CCHhhrrRiiSSSTooPHeerRR.

Her eyes, nose and mouth begin sliding and jerking across her
face like spiders scrambling across a wall.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (Pinching his skin)
Wake up, wake up, wake up!

    She lifts up the cloche.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    No!
The floor gives way and Christopher drops. He grabs the
    ledge.

He looks down and sees the dark abyss, the table, his family
and other segments of the marble wall tumble into the void.

His legs dangle, he screams. He hears a voice calling,
    getting closer, a girl's voice.

    ALMA
    Christopher!
A hand grabs his wrist and yanks him up.

Alma pulls Christopher up onto the ledge they back away from
the crumbling floor. Felix approaches from behind them.

    CHRISTOPHER
Felix, what in heaven's name is
    happening?

    FELIX
    Hypno's constructed a psychic space
for us to inhabit while it consumes
    our dreams.

    ALMA
But it won't kill us, right? Our
actual bodies won't die if we fall.

    FELIX
    No, just our minds.
    EXT. FORTRESS GARDEN - DAY

CHRISTOPHER, ALMA, DARLENE and FELIX are sleeping. A stream
of pink energy emanates from their foreheads and agglomerates
into a pink, glowing ball. Hypno is nourishing itself via a
strand of energy into his nostrils from the glowing ball,
    eyes shut.

PHYLLIS, RAZER, BERNY and WEAVILE, all asleep, are encased in
Tyranitars boulders, limbs sticking out of the rock, as Hisao
    and Tyranitar observe.

    HISAO
Shame we can't fit the Snorlax
through the tree, but oh well,
it'll come in use eventually. I
    have mixed feelings on the
Croconaw, how are we doing for
    water-types?
Tyranitar says something to him in his own tongue.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Oh, well in that case I'll keep
him. And the others? I do prefer
    smaller, nimbler Pokemon.

    Tyranitar shakes his head.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
I suppose we do have a lot of them
    already. Right then.

    (Points to Phyllis and
    Razer)
I'll keep these two. Dispatch of
    the rest.
Tyranitar waves his arms, dissipating the rock prisons he
    created, freeing Berny and Weavile.

Berny and Weavile wake, the world upside-down to them as they
are carried. They see Hypno feasting on the dreams of their
    friends.

They struggle to get free. Tyranitar's grip is too tight.

Tyranitar leaves the garden, walks through a pair of shoji
doors and out onto a large balcony covered in sand.

    INT. NIGHTMARE - SAME TIME

The hole in the floor is getting wider. Christopher, Alma and
    Felix back away.

    FELIX
    Follow me, hurry!
Felix pushes open the door that Christopher walked through,
    revealing a glitching, crumbling corridor.

The three run, jumping over the holes in the floor, past
    other connecting corridors.

From one of the other corridors, Darlene emerges.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    Darlene?

    DARLENE
YOU. You're the reason we're stuck
    here forever!
Darlene charges toward Felix, she TACKLES him. They fall
through a gap in the floor.

EXT. HISAO'S FORTRESS - SAME TIME

AT THE BALCONY, Tyranitar walks up to the balcony ledge where
the land can be seen thousands of feet below.

Berny and Weavile launch ice and fire blasts at Tyranitar,
every shot bounces off his armour like tennis balls.

IN THE GARDEN, Razer uses his tail to scratch away the
surface of Phyllis's rock prison, freeing her leaf.

Her leaf goes rigid like a sword, she strikes the rock, she
SHATTERS Razer's prison and then SHATTERS her own.

    They're both free.

    HISAO
    What the devil just happened?

Razer BLASTS water at Hisao, sends him FLYING into a tree,
    limbs tangled in the branches.

Phyllis runs for Hypno, Razer behind her. She stops him.

She points at him and then gestures to the balcony,
indicating to go and save Berny.

Hypno opens his eyes, sees the freed Pokemon and levitates
    several potted bonsai around him.

He LAUNCHES the pots at Phyllis, she uses her leaf to DEFLECT
    each one.

Razer looks back and forth between the balcony and the
sleeping humans. He groans and heads for Berny.

    INT. NIGHTMARE - SAME TIME

Darlene and Felix collapse onto a segment of the corridor
floor floating above the void, rapidly crumbling away.

Felix gets his leg caught in a hole, he STUMBLES over.

Darlene stands on both feet. She laughs.

    FELIX
    Darlene! Help me, please!

    DARLENE
You really think I ever meant those
things I said about you? "You're
not a lost cause", "You can prove
    everyone wrong", "Always believe in
    yourself".

    FELIX
    Don't do this to me.

    DARLENE
You believed me, because you always
believe what you want to hear. That
    proved useful for me.
EXT. HISAO'S FORTRESS - SAME TIME

Razer follows after Tyranitar, but is blocked off by several
Samurai guards, each with their own Pokemon.

Razer turns to run the other way, then he looks back to see
TYRANITAR FLING WEAVILE OUT OF THE FORTRESS.

Tyranitar holds Berny out over the dizzying fall, Berny
WRIGGLING in his grip like a worm, CRYING for help.

As Razer looks into Berny's teary eyes, he turns back to the
blockade, approaching with teeth bared. The army ATTACKS.

Razer swings his tail, squirts water like a high-pressure
hose and deflects sword strikes with his teeth.

BERNY gets free, tries to run but GETS CAUGHT in Tyranitar's
claws. Tyranitar goes back to the balcony edge.

RAZER continues his assault. His foes are knocked away one by
    one as sparks surround him.

Razer grows, bigger and bigger. The Samurai flee in terror.

Tyranitar's tail is GRIPPED BY A MASSIVE PAIR OF JAWS. He
drops Berny as he's dragged backwards, who lands on the
    balconies edge. Berny flees.

Tyranitar flicks his tail, freeing himself from the jaws. He
    turns.

There stands Razer, now a Feraligatr, a giant, hulking,
    bipedal crocodile.

Razer charges. Tyranitar charges. CRASH. They grip each
other, wrestling like over-sized komodo dragons.

BERNY slips past the two, narrowly missing the huge swinging
tails. He races through the shoji doors and into the garden.

IN THE GARDEN, He sees Hypno fending off Phyllis by launching
potted plants, one STRIKES Phyllis, she's out cold.

Berny CHARGES up a fiery attack.

    INT. NIGHTMARE - SAME TIME

Felix tries to climb out the hole, but Darlene KICKS him back
down. The platform around him crumbles.

    DARLENE
    Say goodbye, Felix.

The ground behind Darlene crumbles, she STUMBLES on the edge
    and FALLS INTO THE ABYSS.

He climbs onto the platform, now the size of a single bed,
and looks up to see Christopher & Alma on the platform above.

    ALMA
    Jump Felix! Hurry!

    FELIX
    I can't, it's too high.

    ALMA
    Do it!

Felix readies himself, runs to the ledge, he TRIPS AND FALLS.

EXT. FORTRESS GARDEN - SAME TIME

Berny launches a fire blast at the ground, EXPLODES by Hypno
and sends him FLYING INTO A TREE, beside Hisao.

CHRISTOPHER, ALMA & FELIX awaken. DARLENE doesn't.

Alma runs over to Berny and scoops him up.

    ALMA
    Berny, you saved us!
She throws him to the ground.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Wait, no. No hugs. You need
    discipline, not cuddles.

    CHRISTOPHER
Alma, give us a hand quick!
Alma joins Christopher and Felix who are carrying the
    unconscious Phyllis through the tree-door.

BACK IN TEAM ZEPHYR HQ. They place her beside Snorlax, who is
still asleep from Hypno's pendulum, Berny joins them.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Okay, everyone's here.

    ALMA
    Wait, we're missing Razer.
She runs back through the tree-door, into the garden.

    CHRISTOPHER
Stop, we don't have a plan!

    ALMA
Berny comes with me, you and Felix
stay here and make sure the door
stays open. I'll be back before you
    know it.
She runs to the other end of the garden with Berny, through
the shoji doors leading to the balcony.

IN THE GARDEN, out of sight of Christopher & Felix, Hisao and
Hypno free themselves from the trees.

ON THE BALCONY, Razer and Tyranitar fight, every body part a
weapon, teeth, claws, tails. They slam, claw and throw.

Tyranitar backs off, armour cracking. Now distanced, he
summons sharp stones, but they're SHATTERED BY FIREBALLS.

BERNY rushes to Razers side, Alma follows, she squees.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Aaah! Razer, you look amazing!
She stops herself, slaps her cheeks.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
Wait, no, I mean, don't get cocky
    we haven't won yet.

    (To Tyranitar)
You! Don't tangle with us, and we
    won't tangle with you.

    HISAO (O.S.)
But where's the fun in that?
HISAO & HYPNO telekinetically float to the ground from up
    above, beside Tyranitar.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
I want to see how well you put up a
    fight, Alma Harper.
Alma takes Darlene's vial from her pocket, HURLS it at Hisao.
Hypno sends it flying back into the garden.

Tyranitar creates a rocky blockade, walling off Alma and the
    Pokemon from the garden.

He nods to Hypno, who waves his pendulum. Razer and Berny
turn around, Alma shields her eyes.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Don't look away, you're missing all
    the action.
Tyranitar summons GIANT, ROCKY SPEARS, he launches them.

Benry and Razer dodge, the spears embed themselves in the
    ground.

They are gradually being herded toward the rock wall.

    Tyranitar closes in.

He summons massive spears, pointed at the cornered Pokemon.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Once again, the situation is too
much for little Alma to handle.

    Alma smiles.

    ALMA
Berny, burn as bright as you can.

BERNY BURNS BRIGHT, the fire on his head and back extending
like a jet engines flame, blinding.

Tyranitar squints, the trajectory of the spears miss their
    targets.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Now back up, straight line.

    Berny paces backward toward Hypno.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    (To Razer)
On my mark, turn and spray.
Hypno drops the pendulum, stretches out both arms, deflecting
the intense fire with a psychokinetic wall.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Now!
RAZER TURNS, gets on all fours, FWOOSH, he sprays a massive
    wall of water at Hypno.

Hypno flies back, tumbling across the sandy balcony, off the
edge. He grabs the ledge, looks down, his pendulum falls.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Again Razer!

RAZER BLASTS WATER, sprays Tyranitar. Tyranitar stands his
    ground.

    HISAO
    Useless!
    (To Tyranitar)
    Now finish them.

Tyranitar summons, a MASSIVE BOULDER is created, floating
    above his head.

Alma gestures, to Berny, in a sweeping "left" motion.

Berny shuffles left, his fire, still blazing bright, crosses
the path of the water, turning it into steam.

Tyranitar and Hisao are SHROUDED IN A STEAM CLOUD.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Enough tricks! Show yourself so we
    can end this.
The steam clears. Alma, Berny and Razer stand to the right of
Hisao and Tyranitar, facing the balcony's edge.

    ALMA
    Good idea.
    Tyranitar turns, too late.

RAZER CHARGES, pushing Tyranitar off the edge, the boulder
    flies off into the distance.

CRASH. He hits the lower tiers, breaking through the roof.

In the castle, several Hypnos meditate. Tyranitar SLAMS into
them, they break out of their trance.

    THE CASTLE TILTS FORWARD.

On the balcony, ALMA & HISAO stumble, sand flowing past her
ankles. They start scrambling toward the garden.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    (To Razer and Berny)
    Go, go, go!
Berny blasts the rock wall down with a fire blast, opening a
way from the balcony to the garden.

Razer and Berny hurry out in front, past Hisao, through the
    garden and into the tree.

The vial rolls down through the shoji doors, Alma grabs it
and puts it in her pocket.

Alma and Hisao scramble into the garden, on all fours, the
ground gets steeper. Hisao is ahead.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Come on Alma, keep going!

Christopher, Felix and the Pokemon beckon to her from the
    other side of the tree.

Hisao grips the grass tightly, the ground nearly 90 degrees.

He looks down, sees Alma clinging, he kicks her hands.

FAR AWAY FROM THE CASTLE. Celebi flies through the sky,
    toward the tilting castle.

BACK AT THE CASTLE. On the other side of the tree-door, BERNY
opens his mouth, ready to fire at Hisao in the garden.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    (To Berny)
    No! It's too dangerous, stop.

    Berny shuts his mouth.
Hisao keeps kicking. Alma's hand comes free, she clings with
    the other.

    FELIX
    What do we do?

Celebi flies down to Hisao. He GRABS her by the antenna.

Blue electricity flows between the antenna and Hisao. Celebi
sees a HULKING BEAST SUMMONING A CYCLONE in her mind.

SMASH. She headbutts him. He let's go, he falls.

RAZER backs out of the tree, tail extended toward Alma. She
    grabs it.

AT THE BALCONY, HYPNO sidles against the vertical balcony
floor, using the lip of the balcony as a ledge. He sees Hisao
fall through the garden and out the shoji doors.

Hypno stretches out his arm, stopping Hisao in mid-fall.

Hisao floats, body laid out flat, facing the tree. He sees
Razer yank Alma up through the tree, Celebi joins her.

Razer grips the metal scrap in the tree-door in his teeth,
    pulling it free.

    HISAO
    No!
The metal dislodges. Alma waves. The door snaps shut.

    EXT. FORTRESS GARDEN - LATER

The castle is upright again. Hypno watches as Hisao slaps
Tyranitar across the head with a fan.

    HISAO
Idiot, idiot, idiot! I was made an
object of ridicule today, by a
female, no less, because of you.

    (To Hypno)
And you should be ashamed too. Not
    a scrap of information you
harvested is of any use now that
    those gates are forever closed.
A SAMURAI (30s) enters the garden, clutching a small
    creature.

    SAMURAI
    My lord...

    HISAO
Dare you interrupt me again and I
will have you fed to your own
    Arcanine.
The samurai shows him the creature in his hands. It's his
Bellossom, her skin and petals wrinkly like a dying plant.

    SAMURAI
When the fortress was rotating, she
    was crushed as the ornaments
    tumbled.
Hisao takes her in his hands. He caresses the flowers on her
head in his fingertips, the petals come loose.

    HISAO
    Impossible, this can't be
    happening. She can heal herself.
    Can't she?

    SAMURAI
Only if she has regular exposure to
sunlight. You locked her up in the
dark for half of her life.

    HISAO
Get out of my sight. NOW.
    The Samurai leaves.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
    (To Hypno)
    Bring me my fastest Pidgeot.
Hypno says something to Hisao in his own tongue.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
You know full well where I intend
to go. I need a resurrection, only
one Pokemon possesses such a power.
Hypno shakes his head and talks again.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Mark my words. As long as there is
love in my heart for my Bellossom,
I will not fail the trial.
Exasperated, Hypno responds with more disapproval.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Well, you know what I do when I
don't get my way. With the
    slightest movement of my finger,
armies fall and lords are reduced
to groveling fools. I doubt an
    over-sized bird will fall any
    differently.
Hypno and Tyranitar exchange a nervous look.

    EXT. FORTRESS GARDEN - LATER

Hisao tucks Bellosom away into his kimono and mounts the
Pidegot. The bird takes flight. Hisao vanishes into the sky
    as Hypno and Tyranitar watch.

    EXT. BELL TOWER - EVENING

In the sky, Hisao flies. The Pidgeot circles the enormous
tower, three large quadrupeds stand guard on a balcony before
a huge gate on the towers peak. Pidgeot swoops to the
    balcony.

As Pidgeot lands, Hisao dismounts. There sits Entei, along
with his brothers, Suicune and Raikou, also giant quadruped
    beasts.

Hisao holds up his Bellossom. The three beasts leap down and
watch her, laying still in his hands.

They step back, allowing Hisao to pass. He walks to the gate.
The three beasts watch as he opens the gate, then closes the
    door behind him.

    ACT 2 (part 4)
INT. TEAM ZEPHYR HIDEOUT - AFTERNOON

Phyllis is resting as Snorlax places and ice pack on her
head. Alma scans Razer with the Pokedex and Christopher,
Felix and Berny sit down to catch their breath, except
Celebi, who is scanning multiple points in time and space
using the tree, flicking her wrists to "change the channel",
her movements more frigid and shaky than before.

    ALMA
Hey Celebi, thanks for offering to
take us back home, it means the
    world to us.
    She doesn't respond.

    CHRISTOPHER
Are you okay Celebi? You're acting
    all edgy and weird-like.

    ALMA
    I think we're all a little tense
after that episode. But it'll all
    be over soon. I can't believe we're
    finally going home.
Christopher picks up a modern, telescoping fishing rod. He
starts waving it, pretending to cast it.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Does this still work?

    FELIX
Should do, it's designed to lure
    aquatic Pokemon, but I've never
found the time to learn how to use
it. By that, I mean, Darlene never
    saw the point of it.
Celebi opens the tree door, Turner Town can be seen on the
other side. The sun low, wind stroking the grass.

    ALMA
    This is it.

Everyone walks through the tree, onto TURNER TOWN CLIFF.

    CHRISTOPHER
We did it, we actually did it.

    ALMA
I can never get bored of watching
    the view from up here.

    CHRISTOPHER
Hold on a sec, what do we do now?
We can't go gallivanting across the
human world with Pokemon, we'll get
    into trouble.

    FELIX
    I can help with that.

    CHRISTOPHER
Yeah, nah. I think we're good.

    FELIX
    What's that supposed to mean?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Nothing, it's...nothing.
Christopher walks away. Felix marches after him.

    FELIX
    What? What is it?

    CHRISTOPHER
Look, I appreciate your help but
with issues like this, me and Alma
find it easiest to deal with
    ourselves.

    FELIX
You don't trust me, that's what
    you're saying?

    ALMA
No, he doesn't mean it like that.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Actually, I do.
    (To Felix)
What makes you think you can trick
us again? You are the last person I
would ever trust to look after a
    Pokemon.
    Felix pushes Christopher.

    FELIX
You can't talk! Why don't you tell
Alma what you tried to do to
    Bayleef?

    ALMA
    (To Christopher)
    Phyllis? What's he talking about?

    FELIX
    (To Alma)
Hisao tried to bargain for Phyllis
    in exchange for red Gyarados
    scales.

    CHRISTOPHER
I wasn't going to take them. I was
    going to say no.

    FELIX
    You weren't acting like it.
A shadow stretches across the earth. Alma looks up.

    ALMA
    Guys...

    CHRISTOPHER
    Fine then, I'm a bad person. You're
a bad person. We're all equal in
    how terrible we are.

    ALMA
    Look!
She points to the sky, everyone turns their heads.

A gargantuan, scaly beast with wide arms like whale fins
climbs out of the ocean. Where its head should be is instead
what looks like a giant diving helmet.

The beast clambers over the tree in great strides, crawling
inland along the hills beside the town.

It waves its arms in a circular motion, summoning a cyclone.

    It grows and grows.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    It can't be.

    FELIX
    I think it is.

    CHRISTOPHER
    That's Lugia!

IN THE STREETS OF TURNER TOWN. Cars crash, people run and
scream, rooftops break away from their houses, trees are
    plucked from their roots.

ATOP THE CLIFF. The debris swirls around the growing cyclone.

    FELIX
We need to get out of here. Go!

Everyone scrambles back through the tree, they fight against
the winds, a newspaper latches onto Christopher's ankle.

Celebi clings to Alma's back. Phyllis and Snorlax awaken,
they run over to the others to pull them through the tree-
    door.

They make it through, save for Celebi, who's CARRIED OFF by a
the winds. She grabs the cliff-side grass and clings as the
    wind pulls.

    ALMA
Celebi! Hold on, we can save you.

    CHRISTOPHER
We can't go back out there.

A huge slab of debris flies toward Celebi, it SLICES her
antenna, sparks flickering from the cut.

The tree loses its luster. The doors SNAP shut.

    Silence.

Christopher reads the newspaper that got caught on his ankle.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
21st November. Ten days. Lugia is
    coming in ten days.

    ALMA
Celebi wanted us to see that.
That's the future she saw when
Hisao grabbed her antenna. She saw
    Turner Town being destroyed.

    CHRISTOPHER
It's not just Turner Town. When
    that thing arrives in Anglis,
millions of people across the whole
    region will die.
Felix breaks open another packet of emergency reserves and
starts eating. Snorlax sits by him as he offers her food.

    ALMA
    What are you doing?

    FELIX
This is me coping with stress.
She slaps the food out of his hand.

    ALMA
No, now's not the time for that.

    FELIX
What are we supposed to do?

    CHRISTOPHER
He has a point. There's nothing we
have that can put up a fight with
    that thing.

    ALMA
We don't have to fight it, we just
need to change the outcome we saw.
    Something happened to Lugia, we
    need to find out what.

    FELIX
I don't know who would put a giant
metal cage on Lugia's head or why,
but I want nothing to do with it.
    Christopher clasps his hands together.

    CHRISTOPHER
The metal cage! Didn't it look
    familiar?

    ALMA
Yeah, it looked a bit like the
helmet the zombie guy down at the
    lake was wearing.

    CHRISTOPHER
Exactly! I'll bet me nans teeth
    them two are connected.

    ALMA
I think we should track him down.

    CHRISTOPHER
Ask him a few questions about
    Lugia...

    ALMA
    ...And how to stop it.

    FELIX
    Zombie guy? Who?

    ALMA
    We'll explain everything later. But
    how do we find him?

    CHRISTOPHER
"There's no short supply of Aspear
Berries". I think that's what he
said. Maybe we can intercept him
    whilst he's picking berries.

    ALMA
Felix, where does the Aspear berry
    grow in Johto?
Felix takes the Pokedex from Alma and opens up the map.

    FELIX
The trees they grow from are
usually found on the northern parts
    of Johto, sparsely distributed.

    CHRISTOPHER
That doesn't narrow it down much.

    FELIX
Well, there is another thing. The
    berries actually are in short
supply. The trees have become rarer
over time. They used to grow
    abundantly years ago, but now
you'll be lucky to find more than
    two in one place.
He points to a towering mountain on the map.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    However, there's one exception. At
the base of Mt. Silver there's an
    entire forest of those trees.

    CHRISTOPHER
That's got to be where he's getting
    those berries!

    ALMA
So it's settled. Mt. Silver is our
best bet. We go there, find our
    zombie friend, save Lugia, save
Celebi and save the Anglis region.
Christopher draws a line with his finger on the map, from
their position to the mountain, past a huge lake.

    CHRISTOPHER
And we need to get there in ten
days. What about this big old lake?

    ALMA
That's not good. It'll take too
    long to walk around it.

    FELIX
Well, we don't have to go around
it. Let me show you something.
EXT. BANK OF MAHOGANY LAKE - DAY

Christopher, Alma, Snorlax, Berny, Razer and Phyllis watch as
Felix opens Lapras's entry on the Pokedex. He selects the
option "cry". The Pokedex emits a noise that sounds like the
    call Lapras makes.

After a brief silence, Lapras emerges from the lake, it
cranes its neck down at Felix.

    FELIX
This is how we're going to get
across the lake, she's a Lapras.

    ALMA
    We know, we've met before.

    FELIX
    Really? How'd you get on?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Brilliant. Wonderful. Really,
    really good.

    ALMA
Great. We got on REALLY well.
    Absolutely fantastic.

    FELIX
    Okay...
He brings up the map of Johto.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
How are things Lapras? Sorry I
    haven't said hi in a while. I've
been a bit pre-occupied with work.
Lapras says something in her own tongue.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
You'll be glad to know she won't be
    hurting anyone anymore. You know,
I've always thought this lake is a
bit small for you. Ever thought of
    relocating?
He draws a line from mahogany lake, down the river as it
connects to other, larger rivers, lastly to the Lake of Rage.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
If you follow the path down this
    river, through the tributaries, you
can reach the Lake of Rage.
He enlarges the image of the lake, showing it in more detail.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
Tons of space to move around,
plenty of fish to hunt and maybe...
He taps on an icon labeled "known wildlife". A list of
Pokemon appears, he brings up an image of a Lapras.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
...You might even find "the one".
    Sound good?
    Lapras smiles and nods.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    Nice, because we're heading there
too, maybe we should go together.
EXT - WATERS OF JOHTO - VARIOUS

    MONTAGE START

    - The gang are aboard Lapras who swims to the other end of
    the lake.

    - Lapras swims through a river opening into a lake so wide it
seems like an ocean, Mt. Silver in the distance.

    - Lapras swims amidst the still watery expanse, the gang
relax as Christopher fishes with his new rod.

    - Christopher reels in a fish, Phyllis stops him being
dragged into the sea. Alma scans the fish with the Pokedex.

    - Lapras reaches a small island in the watery expanse and
    everyone dismounts.

    MONTAGE END

EXT. LAKE OF RAGE ISLAND - AFTERNOON

Snorlax shakes coconuts from a tree as Christopher and Alma
watch. The coconuts fall, except for one which clings tight.

Snorlax dislodges it with a quick shot of electricity from
her arm. Christopher and Alma stare, slack jawed.

Felix approaches them. He takes out a small CD case.

    FELIX
    I can explain this.
He takes out a small yellow CD titled "TM 24 Thunderbolt".

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    Pokemon can learn certain
    techniques from other Pokemon. So,
    by carrying around these tutorials,
I can teach Snorlax what I want,
    when I want.
Berny, Phyllis and Razer approach him, curious of the discs.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    (To the three Pokemon)
You know, maybe you could learn a
    thing or two from these.
The three Pokemon look at each other, then turn around and
leave. Felix runs around to stop them.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
Hey, I'm being serious, give me a
chance. Look, I know Darlene and I
were bad to you and I'm sorry.
Think of this as an apology, you
    won't regret it.

    (To Alma)
    Pass me the Pokedex.

She throw him the Pokedex. He inserts a red disc into the
Pokedex, on the screen flashes "TM 61 Will-o-wisp".

Images of several different Pokemon summoning blue fireballs
and launching them like tiny missiles appear on-screen.

Felix shows the images to Berny. He becomes transfixed.

EXT. LAKE OF RAGE ISLAND - LATER

Alma is giving directions to Berny, who is practicing the
move "Will-o-wisp", using Snorlax as a practice opponent.

Razer is watching a tutorial on how to use "Earthquake".

Felix and Christopher prepare an empty Pokemon shell to use
as a wok. Phyllis chops up ingredients with her leaf.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Felix)
So then, the aircraft. You made
    that all by yourself?

    FELIX
That was my first attempt at making
a name for myself, before the
Pokedex and before Darlene, but I
never got any further than the
first prototype. I didn't know you
    were interested.

    CHRISTOPHER
Oh, I'm not. Well, maybe a little.
EXT. LAKE OF RAGE ISLAND - LATER

Razer faces off against Snorlax under Alma's guidance, Berny
watches. Christopher fishes with his new rod. Phyllis and
Felix fish with him with their own makeshift rods.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Felix)
Now, when the fish jumps, you want
to bow to the fish. Otherwise the
    line breaks.

    FELIX
Bow to the fish, got it.
Felix gets a bite, but he is dragged out into the water.

    Christopher and Phyllis laugh.

Razer vibrates his arms to try and use "Earthquake". He slams
    the sand with his arms.

A wave of wet sand is kicked up all over Alma, slathering her
    in mud.

    Razer and Berny gasp.

Alma smiles, then laughs. She picks up a ball of mud and
hurls it at them, she chases them as they circle around her.

EXT. LAKE OF RAGE ISLAND - NIGHT

Everyone sits around the campfire, eating fish coconut curry
from coconut bowls with makeshift chopsticks.

Felix starts scrolling through the entries in the Pokedex.

    FELIX
I can't believe how much has
changed since I last looked at
this. There's so many Pokemon on
here I didn't even know existed,
    especially the aquatic Pokemon.

    CHRISTOPHER
    You're welcome.

    FELIX
Remember that investor I told you
about? If he saw the Pokedex now, I
guarantee he'd get on board with
it. It might sound crazy, but, if
we ever get out of this alive,
    Zephyr Technologies could start
    again, with you guys.

    ALMA
    No Pokemon trafficking?

    FELIX
    No Pokemon trafficking, I promise.

    CHRISTOPHER
How do we know we can trust you?

    FELIX
Please, just give me a chance. I've
got nothing to hide anymore. I'm
just a guy on an island.
Christopher gets up, his bowl empty, he leaves the campfire.

    CHRISTOPHER
Tell you what, I'll sleep on it.
    I'm cream crackered, anyone else?
Phyllis and Razer yawn, get up and follow him, leaving Berny,
Snorlax, Felix and Alma at the campfire.

Alma notices Berny's blank stare, his food untouched.

    ALMA
    (To Berny)
    I know what you're thinking.
    Berny turns to her.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
You're not worse than Razer just
    because you haven't evolved.
    Berny looks over at Razer.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
You know I'm proud of you, right?
    After everything you've achieved?
    Maybe you'll evolve, maybe you
    won't. It doesn't matter. You're
    pushing yourself to the limit,
    that's what's important.
Berny smiles and springs into her lap.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    Hey, that's more like it.

    FELIX
    (To Alma)
    So, about Christopher, you've known
    him a long time?

    ALMA
Yep. We're both only children so we
just sort of stuck together as we
grew up. He's a good person.

    FELIX
Seems a little on the arrogant side
to me. He's not as bad as I thought
    at first, but still.

    ALMA
He sometimes says things that can
be hurtful. He thinks it's all in
his nature, but deep down that's
    not who he is.
Soft light emerges from the water. Lanturns, fish with
glowing orbs sprouting from their heads like angler fish,
rise to the surface of the water.

The ocean is dotted with thousands of tiny glowing spheres,
    stretching off into the distance.

The island is surrounded by gently shimmering lights, from
the sky and from the sea.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
I was eight years old. I got
    separated from my parents getting
onto the train. I panicked and I
ran off into the city. I was lost.
I thought that was it for me. Then
this boy comes up to me, same age,
he asks "why are you crying, what
happened?". I told him where I
needed to get to, he said "I know
this place like the back of me
hand, I'll get you there in no
time". He took my hand, led me back
to the station, we snuck onto the
train and my parents were there on
the very next station. He didn't
have to help me, but if he didn't I
wouldn't be here today. Ever since
then, I promised myself I'd always
be there for him, like he was there
    for me.
Phyllis and Christopher are resting under a makeshift wooden
    hut.

As Phyllis rests her eyes, Christopher takes off his jacket
and places it onto her back, then lays his head beside hers.

    He shuts his eyes.

EXT. LAKE OF RAGE - MORNING

Lapras is carrying Alma, Christopher, Felix, Snorlax, Berny,
Razer and Phyllis across the lake. Phyllis is watching a
tutorial on the Pokedex (TM22 Solarbeam). The shore of the
lake is in view, with Mt Silver and the Aspear trees towering
    on the horizon.

    FELIX
So this guy didn't give a name or
    anything?

    CHRISTOPHER
Nope, all we know is that he wants
    everyone intruding in Johto dead.
    Same as Entei, apparently. They
    should trade notes.

    FELIX
    You met Entei?

    ALMA
    Unfortunately, yes. You know, after
    seeing Entei and Lugia, I'm
starting to think that those "myths
and tales of the gold and silver
    beasts" aren't myths at all.

    FELIX
    After everything I've seen, I don't
    know what to believe.
Lapras reaches the shore and everyone jumps off.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
Well, I guess this is goodbye.
Thanks for your help Lapras, it
    means a lot.

    CHRISTOPHER
You never know, maybe we’ll meet
    again someday.

    ALMA
    Hopefully without me almost getting
    eaten.

    FELIX
    Wait, what?

    ALMA
    Nothing.
Lapras bows its head, and the others bow in return. Lapras
then shuffles around and heads in the opposite direction.

Alma spots a large dragonfly with a human riding atop it
    rising out of the trees.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Look, it's him!

The Yanmega flies up to the snowy mountain top to roost among
    what looks like castle ruins.

    ALMA
Those ruins on the top of Mt.
    Silver. That's where he lives.

    CHRISTOPHER
We're supposed to go all the way up
    there?

    ALMA
We have no choice, time is ticking.
    Let's go, come on everyone!
She goes on ahead, the Pokemon follow her. Christopher and
    Felix stay behind.

    FELIX
This is so dangerous, I can't
    believe we're actually doing this.
    Alma turns around.

    ALMA
    You're staying here? Okay then,
looks like a woman is going to lead
    this expedition. About time.

    CHRISTOPHER
Oi, careful on your way up! You
might bump into a glass ceiling.
He chases her, catching up. Felix hastily stumbles after
Christopher. They disappear into the forest.

    EXT. MT SILVER - NIGHT

From a long distance, a creature watches Christopher, Alma,
Felix, Phyllis, Razer, Berny and Snorlax climb the snowy
mountainside. Entei approaches, then turns away, shedding a
tear. Then, with great reluctance, forces himself to follow
    them up the mountain.

AT THE MOUNTAIN RIDGE, the gang wanders through a snowy plain
littered with skeletons clad in samurai armour and wielding
katanas. In the distance, two large towers can be seen, one
of them has crumbled to the ground. High above, on the
primary volcanic cone of the mountain, there are snow covered
    castle ruins.

    CHRISTOPHER
    That fortress, that's...

    FELIX
    Hisao's fortress.

    ALMA
And these are his men. They died in
    battle.

    FELIX
Whatever they were fighting, it was
strong enough to bring down the
    whole fortress. Who did this?

    ALMA
We'll think about it later, let's
    go, just a little further.
    They continue their ascent.

    ACT 2 (part 5)

EXT. MT SILVER PEAK - LATER

Snow falls upon the ruins of the castle keep. The gang enters
    the ruins.

INSIDE THE RUINS, under a beam of light, the Stranger is
chiseling a statue of a woman. Beside him is Yanmega, chewing
    on aspear berries.

    STRANGER
Do you think she would be happy,
    Yanmega? To see her image
immortalized? I'd like to think so.

Yanmega turns to see Razer. Yanmega takes flight.

Razer DRENCHES Yanmega. Yanmega is overturned, soaked
    wings fluttering.

The stranger backs into a corner as the others approach him.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
You! The ones from the lake. What
    are you doing here?

    (To Felix)
    And who are you?

    FELIX
Felix Knapp. My friends here have
    told me all about you.

    STRANGER
The three of you together...I know
this image from a time long ago.
He clasps his hands to his mouth.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
Of course. It all makes sense now.
    (To Alma)
Do you remember our battle? My
    Tyranitar and Hypno versus your
    Feraligatr and Quilava? Does it
feel like a long time ago to you?

Everyone gasps as the stranger pulls his sleeve up to reveal
tiny gold flames clinging to his skin.

    STRANGER (CONT’D)
Because it was 500 years for me.

    ALMA
    Hisao?

    HISAO
That name is one I have not heard
    in centuries.

    ALMA
How did you live for 500 years?

    HISAO
    Ho-oh. I took his so-called
"trail". His flames burned away my
mortality. He took the last of my
dignity that you left behind. So I
    tried taking away his.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Wait a sec.
    (To Alma)
You were right, they weren't just
myths. It was all him. He waged war
on the legendary Pokemon, he chased
Lugia into the ocean, he's the
    reason humans and Pokemon were
    separated.

    (To Hisao)
    You're a psychopath!

    HISAO
Hold your tongue. I will not be
judged by the one who was so
content to trade away his Bayleef.
Phyllis looks at Christopher, the leaf on her head arching.

    CHRISTOPHER
What? No. Phyllis, don’t listen to
    him. He’s winding you up.

    HISAO
    (To Phyllis)
We were going to make a deal. I
would own you in exchange for
    genuine red Gyrados scales.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Phyllis)
I never made a deal. I was going to
    help you.

    HISAO
    But you hesitated. You realized
that your family’s well being was
    more important than her freedom.
Tears start streaming down Phyllis’s face.

    CHRISTOPHER
Phyllis, please you have to believe
    me.

    HISAO
Maybe you should think twice about
    who you call the villain.
A drop of water falls on his head.

The snow atop the structure starts melting.

Heavy footsteps can be heard, Christopher looks over his
    shoulder.

Everyone turns to see Entei walk into the wooden wreckage.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
    Entei!
    (To the gang)
You led him to me you imbeciles!
    Entei snarls at Hisao.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Wait! If you must kill me, there's
    something you should see first.

Hisao walks over to a cloth draped over the wreckage, hanging
    like a curtain.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
It must have been a difficult
choice, climb Mt. Silver and kill
the humans, or run away from your
    past. Until now, I've always
counted on you taking the latter
option, hence why I've survived so
    long.
He pulls down the cloth to reveal two large quadruped
skeletons with spears driven into them.

    ALMA
    Suicune and Raikou...

    HISAO
I think they were scared when they
    died, no, terrified. Where was
their help? Who let two towers
become one? Who left their own
    master so disappointed with their
    incompetence that they were
relieved of their position as a
    guardian and forbidden to ever
    approach him again?
Smoke starts rising from Entei's mouth, tears streaming from
    his eyes.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Well Entei, will you exact your
vengeance upon me? Or is that going
to be another one to add to your
    list of failed tasks?

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Entei)
Entei, cool it. We still have
    questions he has to answer.
Entei SNARLS, Snorlax responds by SMACKING him with a paw.
He's down. Snorlax pins him to the ground with both paws.

Entei BILLOWS FLAME from his mouth, everyone backs away from
the flame. Alma jumps onto Razer's back

    ALMA
Hisao! You're coming with me, I'll
    get you somewhere safe.
Hisao leaps onto the giant alligators back. Razer GALLOPS on
    all fours.

    CHRISTOPHER
It's too dangerous, Entei will kill
    you!
Entei ROARS. His crest glows and the ground SHAKES. Snorlax
backs away as LAVA SPEWS OUT OF THE GROUND.

Entei gets to his feet and CHASES after Razer, Berny in tow.

RAZER gallops down the volcano ridge as PILLARS OF LAVA ERUPT
UP AHEAD. He maneuvers left and right to avoid.

BACK IN THE RUINS. Christopher and Felix back away from the
lava plumes. Yanmega, wings dried from the heat, flies away.

All paths are cut off. The two are surrounded by a hellish
circle, with Snorlax and Phyllis on the outside.

Christopher readies himself to jump over the lava.

    FELIX
    Stop!
Christopher turns to see Felix pointing at a the top of a
    tall segment of the ruins.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
We need to climb up there.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Have you lost your marbles?

    FELIX
Just do it, there's no time!
Felix clambers up the vertical structure. Christopher groans,
    then joins him.

AT THE VOLCANIC RIDGE. ENTEI closes in, he spits fireballs.

FWOOSH. They zip past ALMA's head, singeing her hair.

BLAST. A fireball burst into Razer's scaly skin. He TUMBLES.

Alma and Hisao are thrown off. They CRASH into the snow.

RAZER COLLIDES with a boulder and is flung down the snowy
    slope of the volcano.

ALMA & HISAO slide straight forward and come to a stop in the
    secondary volcanic cone.

The cone is peppered with bits of wreckage from Hisao's
fortress, including a giant, cracked Tyranitar statue.

AT THE RUINS. Christopher and Felix climb atop the structure
as the lava closes in on them.

    FELIX (CONT’D)
    Ready Snorlax?

Snorlax's arm glows with electric current.

    CHRISTOPHER
    No, Snorlax stop!

Snorlax ZAPS the base of the structure. BOOM.

The structure tips over and falls forward like a drawbridge.

Christopher and Felix land on the other side of the lava
circle. They tumble through the snow.

AT THE CONE. ENTEI stands on the cones edge. He opens his
    mouth.

ROAR. Hundreds of lava plumes ERUPT throughout the cone,
    surrounding the humans.

HISAO clambers up the side of the cone, Alma tries to follow.
She's cut off by the flowing lava.

She turns. She runs to the statue, she starts climbing.

AT THE CONES EDGE, ENTEI charges a fire blast, throat glowing
    orange.

BLAST. A different fire blast strikes him in the back of the
head, causing him to miss. BERNY arrives behind him.

With claws extended, Berny uses his small stature to attack
while weaving around Entei, avoiding his attacks.

ON THE STATUE, the lava continues to rise. Alma kicks off her
shoe as it catches fire, she climbs faster.

AT THE CONES EDGE, Berny leap onto Entei's head, he sinks his
teeth into the crest, CRACKS START APPEARING.

Sparks appear around Berny's fur, evolution is imminent.

Entei ducks his head to the ground, SLAMMING BERNY into the
    snow, the sparks disappear.

AT THE STATUE, lava gathers at the statue base. The lava pool
    rises as Alma climbs.

AT THE CONES EDGE, Entei seizes Berny in his jaws, shakes his
head and SMACKS Berny into the ground over and over again.

Entei is SLAMMED by RAZER's massive tail in the side. He
tumbles through the snow, releasing Berny.

Berny hobbles away, limping on a broken rear leg.

Entei turns to Razer, charges a fire blast, throat glowing
    orange.

FWOOSH. Razer shoots high pressure water INTO ENTEI'S MOUTH.

Steam erupts from his mouth as he splutters, unable to fire.

Entei backs away, BERNY behind him, charging a fire blast.

Razer shoots another water blast at Entei.

Entei EVADES the water. CRASH. The water FORCES BERNY back,
he tumbles. Like Entei, he splutters steam.

AT THE STATUE, Alma clambers atop the statue. The lava
continues to rise. Half the statue is engulfed.

AT THE CONES EDGE, HISAO clambers to the edge of the cone,
    behind Razer. Entei spots him.

Razer tries to shoot water again, a SPLASH of lava causes him
    to stumble.

Entei CHARGES TOWARD HISAO, Razer blocks his path, BOOSH, he
impacts Razer, forcing him and Hisao back like a bulldozer.

He FLINGS them off of a ledge on the outside of the cone.

Razer clings to the vertical ledge with his claws, Hisao on
    his back.

They are surrounded by coalescing lava streams flowing down
the outer side of the volcanic cone, trapped.

Razer tries to climb. The ledge is too steep. He slides down
closer to the lava below him.

Hisao looks up to see ENTEI looking back at him, eyes and
    throat AGLOW WITH ANGER.

Though Entei can't shoot fire at him, he looks around for
options, he sees a large boulder near the ledge.

Entei pushes the boulder closer to the ledge, where Razer
    clings below.

BERNY tries blasting the boulder, but he splutters steam
    instead.

He tries attacking Entei directly but he flicks Berny away
    with his paw.

Berny hobbles to the side of the boulder opposite to where
Entei pushes, wincing in pain. He tries to PUSH back on the
    boulder with both arms.

The boulder slows but continues to move toward the ledge.

AT THE STATUE, Alma SCREAMS as the lava rises to her feet,
    the statue nearly completely engulfed.

AT THE LEDGE, Berny CRIES, burning brighter as he pushes, his
feet moving closer to the edge.

Sparks surround him. He GROWS IN SIZE. He THROWS the boulder
    to one side.

    ALMA
    Berny!
Berny STANDS TALL above Entei, no longer a Quilava, but now a
Typhlosion, a massive weasel-bear with flames on his back.

Berny GRABS Entei by the crest, he FORCES HIM BACK.

The two massive beasts wrestle each other, flames clinging to
their fur as they fight tooth and claw.

Entei gains the upper hand. He pushes Berny's head into the
    dirt. Berny struggles.

AT THE STATUE, Alma's shoe catches fire, she SCREAMS, she
kicks it off, it SIZZLES in the lava.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    HELP!
AT THE CONES EDGE, RAZER clambers up onto the ledge, Hisao
dismounts from his back. His arms vibrate, glowing orange
    with heat.

He SLAMS his arms to the ground.

BOOM. A fissure opens up, running from one edge of the cone
to another, throwing snow high into the air.

The shock-wave KNOCKS Entei off of Benry. Berny runs to
    Razer's side.

The lava level lowers, draining out of the new opening in the
side of the cone. Lava streams down the volcano.

ENTEI stands. RAZER and BERNY stand before him.

Razer turns, nods at Berny, Berny returns the nod.

Entei charges. Razer SLAMS the earth. Entei's paw is CAUGHT
    in the fissure.

Berny gets on all fours, fire on his back burning bright.

Razer BLASTS WATER through the flames.

Entei is SHROUDED IN STEAM. He frees his paw from the
fissure. He charges out of the steam.

Berny and Razer are nowhere to be seen.

POW. From Entei's left, BERNY strikes with his claw. POW.

From the right, RAZER strikes with his.

ENTEI, sandwiched between the two hulking beasts, is TOSSED
left and right as he is barraged with attacks.

CRUNCH. BERNY bites Entei's crest. CRUNCH. RAZER bites
    Entei's crest.

KABOOM. The crest SHATTERS. A SHOCKWAVE is released, pushing
Berny and Razer back. The lava cools into rock instantly.

Entei stands, his crest gone. BERNY & RAZER let out a mighty
    ROAR. Entei turns and runs.

    Then silence.

CHRISTOPHER, FELIX, PHYLLIS and SNORLAX run to the edge of
the cone, they see Alma climb down the statue and run across
the cooled lava to Berny and Razer.

    CHRISTOPHER
    ALMA! You're alive.
    (Sees Berny)
    Is that...Berny?

    ALMA
    (To Berny & Razer)
Guys, guys, GUYS. That was the
coolest thing I have ever seen! You
    are amazing.
She gives them both a big hug. Berny and Razer exchange a
    wink.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    They grow up so fast.
A deep, metallic roar can be heard from somewhere down below.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    That sound...
    (To Hisao)
Hisao, you know what that sound is,
    don't you?

    HISAO
It's not too late to turn around
    and leave.

    ALMA
    We're not leaving without answers.
    I watched Lugia decimate my
hometown with my own eyes. All
because of what you did to him.
    Why?

    HISAO
The war was done. Entei chased away
every last human it could find. I
was alone. All I wanted was someone
to be with, someone I wouldn’t have
to watch grow old and die.
EXT. WHIRL ISLANDS - EVENING (FLASHBACK)

A young Hisao sails a boat out toward an island surrounded by
    whirlpools.

He sees a wounded Lugia emerge from the waters, beaching
itself on the shore. It shuts it's eyes. It's body dissolves,
leaving behind nothing but silvery scales. From the scales, a
    new baby Lugia rises.

Hisao approaches the baby. He reaches out his hand, he
    strokes its head.

    HISAO
There, there. It's okay. You have
    me now.

    MONTAGE START

-On the snowy peak of Mt. Silver. Young Lugia is introduced
to a family of Swinub, they play.

-Lugia is taught how to camouflage its white body against the
    snow to hide from Entei.

-A grey-haired Hisao observes poachers trying to catch an
Articuno with simple weapons, they fail.

-Hisao and a large Lugia rest inside the mountain cave where
Hisao now keeps his boat, Hisao lies awake.

-Hisao, closer in look to the modern Hisao, sees poachers
with high tech weapons capture Articuno.

-Lugia plays with friends in the snow as Hisao continues to
    worry.

-Poachers with even more advanced tools try and fail to
    capture Lugia.

-Hisao uses a pair of infra red goggles the poachers leaves
behind to find that Lugia shows up even when camouflaged.

-With the help of some trained Pokemon, Hisao casts molten
iron into molds dug into the earth, creating iron slabs.

-With telekinesis, the trained Psychic Pokemon construct a
sort of vault door in the caves entrance using the slabs,
    sealing away a sleeping Lugia.

-On the other side of the wall, a giant Lugia knocks on the
    door, calling to Hisao.

-Desperate, Lugia starts bashing its head against the door.

-Hisao enters the cave through a small door built into the
metal wall with food for Lugia. He drops the food when he
sees Lugia’s head covered in scars.

-Once again, Hisao casts metal slabs, but of a different
    kind.

    - As before, the slabs are telekinetically put into place,
this time forming a iron prison around Lugia’s head.

    END OF MONTAGE

EXT. MT SILVER - DAWN (PRESENT DAY)

Having overheard Hisao's story from the edge of the cone,
Entei runs to the source of the noise.

He hears metallic clunks under his feet. His eyes glow, the
snow around him melts, revealing a GIANT METAL DOOR.

He opens his mouth, no longer steaming, and SEARS the door
with an intense fire like a welding torch.

UP IN THE CONE. Everyone turns responding to the sound of
    Entei's fire. Yanmega arrives.

    HISAO
About time you arrived, we haven't
    a moment to lose.

Hisao leaps aboard Yanmega, Yanmega flies.

AT THE CAVE ENTRANCE. Entei continues to cut open the iron
wall. Yanmega flies in, blasts Entei with sonic waves.

Entei turns the fiery stream to Yanmega. Wing caught in the
flame, Yanmega collapses, Hisao falls off his back.

Yanmega backs away in fear. Hisao gets up.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
Don’t do this, Entei. This is not
the solution I want for Lugia, but
    it is the only solution.

Entei ignores him as he carves a circle shape into the wall.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
    You are beyond redemption.

Entei cuts off the fiery stream, circle incomplete, and turns
    to face Hisao.

    HISAO (CONT’D)
You can release him, remove the
    helmet, re-unite gold and silver,
but it will change nothing. Ho-oh
    remembers and Ho-oh does not
forgive. You are wasting your time.
    Walk away.

Entei turns and walks away. He stops. He turns and BLASTS THE
IRON WALL with fire more intense than before.

Christopher, Alma, Felix, Berny, Razer, Phyllis and Snorlax
arrive at the foot of the wall to see Entei complete the
    circle.

A terrifying force knocks the carved wall segment forward, it
tumbles down the mountain. The silhouette of a hulking beast
    is seen in the cave.

    ALMA
    Hisao, what do we do?

    HISAO
    Nothing. There’s isn’t anything you
    can do.

    (To Yanmega)
We must leave the Johto region, we
    are no longer safe here.

Hisao jumps onto his Yanmega and they take off. A monster
with an iron helmet emerges from the dark cavern.

    CHRISTOPHER
No, no, no! What have you done,
Entei? We came here because we
wanted to stop that thing getting
    out.

    ALMA
We haven't lost yet, maybe Entei
    can stop it.

Entei leaps up Lugia's back. Lugia shakes him off. Entei hits
    the snow.

With a SWISH of its giant arm Lugia BLOWS away Entei with a
terrifying gale, snow carried along with it.

Berny and Razer try attacking, but they are SWEPT AWAY by
    Lugia's gales.

Lugia tries shaking its head, left, right, against the
    ground, the helmet doesn't budge.

It gives a muffled, metallic cry.

    FELIX
It’s in pain, the helmet is causing
it pain. That's why he's out of
    control.

    ALMA
That doesn't explain why it goes to
    the Anglis region.

From under the helmet, Lugia spots Hisao flying away into the
distance, toward the Anglis region across the Johtonian sea.

Lugia starts crawling on all fours, down the mountain, in
    Hisao's direction.

    FELIX
It thinks Hisao is the only one who
    can get the helmet off.

    ALMA
And it's going to chase him all the
    way to Anglis.

    CHRISTOPHER
So then we take it off ourselves.

    FELIX
We can't even get close to it.

The sun rises in the distance, as the light touches Phyllis,
    her skin begins to glow.

    CHRISTOPHER
    That's it!
    (To Phyllis)
You learnt how to use Solarbeam,
from the Pokedex, right? You can
use that to cut the helmet open.

Phyllis looks at Lugia, crawling like a massive spider down
    the mountain. Her leaf trembles.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Phyllis? Oh for heavens sake, have
a little bit of faith in me, just
    this once.

    FELIX
I really don't think she wants to
    start a fight with Lugia.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Look, Phyllis, we're safe here,
alright? We're far away enough that
we can hide before Lugia gets to
    us.

    ALMA
    What if we're not?

    CHRISTOPHER
Then we fight back, don't we?

    FELIX
    Fight back? Are you insane?

    CHRISTOPHER
Alright listen, if we don't do
something now, right now, Lugia is
going to kill my family and a
    hundred more families. You've seen
    it happen yourself Phyllis, and
right now, you're the only one who
    can stop it from happening.
Phyllis looks at Christopher, at Lugia, and back at
Christopher. Christopher takes Phyllis's head in his hands.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Phyllis, I won't let it hurt you,
    I swear it.

She nods at Christopher. She turns to Lugia, concentrates the
energy in her skin into a ball of light.

Phyllis FIRES the Solarbeam at Lugia's helmet. The beam sears
the surface, but it doesn't cut deep enough.

    Lugia turns to face Phyllis.

    FELIX
Quick, everyone get in the cave.

Alma, Felix and Snorlax scramble into Lugia's cave. Phyllis
cuts off the beam and turns to look at the cave.

    CHRISTOPHER
No! Don't stop Phyllis, you can
    break through that armour, just
    keep going.
Phyllis fires the beam at the helmet once more. With a wave
of its giant arm Lugia sends a BLAST OF AIR up the mountain.
A wave of snow and boulders come hurtling up the slope.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Run!

Christopher and Phyllis turn to run for the cave entrance.

Christopher makes it inside, Phyllis is SWEPT UPWARDS BY THE
    AIR BLAST.

Phyllis rebounds off the remains of the iron wall and tumbles
    down the mountain.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    PHYLLIS!

Lugia turns and carries on its pursuit of Hisao.

IN THE SKY, Hisao turns his head, he sees Lugia crossing the
land in great strides, approaching the coast.

    HISAO
Fly, Yanmega, fly as far as your
wings can take you. Do not stop.

Lugia crashes into the ocean, disappearing under the surface.

    ACT 3
    EXT. MT SILVER - LATER

Christopher, Alma, Felix and Snorlax search across the
mountain for Razer, Berny and Phyllis.

They call out their names, listening for responses. Alma sees
two creatures clambering across the snowy slope toward her.

    ALMA
    Berny! Razer! Your alive.

    CHRISTOPHER
    But where's Phyllis?

    FELIX
    Guys, I need your help!
Christopher and Alma turn to Felix. He's trying to shift a
large boulder. Phyllis is trapped underneath.

    CHRISTOPHER
    No, please no.

Christopher sprints to the boulder. Trying to shift it. It
doesn't budge. Phyllis cries in pain.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Just hold on Phyllis, don't worry.
We'll have this off in no time.

Berny and Razer gallop over on all fours, grab the boulder
and heave it off of Phyllis.

Christopher crouches by Phyllis's side, he strokes her head.

Her yellow skin becomes wrinkled and pasty like a wilted
    flower. She splutters.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Phyllis? Come on, you have to stand
    up.

The leaves on Phyllis's neck start to turn brown and shrivel.
The leaf on her head shrivels too.

    She stops moving.

    Christopher tries to shake her.

    She still doesn't move.

    He stands again.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
What do I do? Felix, what do I do?

    FELIX
    Christopher...

    CHRISTOPHER
Felix, you have to know something,
please. I need to save her.

    Felix shakes his head.

    FELIX
    I'm sorry, Christopher. I'm so
    sorry.

Alma walks over to Christopher, she rests a hand on his
    shoulder.

    CHRISTOPHER
    I did this to her.

    ALMA
    No, this isn't your fault.

    CHRISTOPHER
She didn't want to fight Lugia and
I made her do it. I killed her.
From afar, Entei watches Christopher falls to his knees, head
cradled in his hands, a pale, shriveled creature lies by his
    side.

He walks up to Christopher's side, his broken crest slowly
    mending itself.

Everyone backs away, except for Christopher, who still
    mourns.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Get away! Leave her alone.

Entei looks down at the poor creature, her eyes closed, as
    though sleeping.

He rests a paw on her head, a tear drops from his eye.

The sky is coated in a veil of grey. Snowflakes begin to
float to the ground, perching, on the bristles of
Christopher's hair and on Phyllis's dry, wrinkled skin.

    A light.

    From beyond the clouds.

    Christopher looks up.

He sees what look like a small sun moving from one side of
    the horizon to the other.

A giant wing emerges, slicing through the cover of cloud,
covered in red, white and green feathers.

The light is blinding. The wing disappears back through the
cloud as the creature flies upright.

    FELIX
    (To Alma)
Are you seeing what I'm seeing?

    ALMA
    I think I am. That's Ho-oh.

It heads for the Bell Tower. Entei runs after it, then stops,
staring up at the top of the tower where his master roosts.

Christopher stands, he wipes his tears.

    CHRISTOPHER
    I'm not done yet.

    He walks to Entei.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Entei, I'm bringing her back. And
    you're going to help me.

    ALMA
    What are you talking about?

    CHRISTOPHER
If I can see Ho-oh while its
roosting I might be able to bring
    back Phyllis.

    FELIX
Didn't Hisao try doing that? Do you
want to end up like he did?

    CHRISTOPHER
If I do then that's what I deserve.
But I'll never live with myself if
    I don't try.

    (To Entei)
Please, you have to help me.
    Entei turns away.

Christopher tries walking around to the front of Entei, who
    turns away from him.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    I know I'm a human. I can't change
that. Don't do it for me. Do it for
    Phyllis.

Entei turns to face Christopher, walks up close to him,
    Christopher doesn't flinch.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Give me one chance. Just one.

Entei looks up at his roosting master once more, gives a
little snarl, then sits, allowing Christopher to mount him.

    ALMA
    Christopher, stop.

Alma walks over to Christopher, stopping him before he can
    climb onto Entei.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
You don't have to do this. What
about your family? There may still
be time to save them. If you find a
way to get to Anglis before Lugia,
you can get them to safety.

    CHRISTOPHER
As much as I want to be there for
them, I have to do this first.
Don't worry about me, worry about
Hisao. You need to find him and get
him away from Turner Town. And take
Berny and Razer with you in case
    Lugia finds you.

    ALMA
So that's it, we're splitting up?
    Just like that?

    CHRISTOPHER
This isn't goodbye. I'm coming back
    one way or another.

    ALMA
I hate how stubborn you are
    sometimes.
Alma embraces him, holding him tightly. He wraps his arms
    around her in return.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
If I still had that blackboard, I
would be so ready to add to my
    tally right now.

    CHRISTOPHER
You always were getting ahead of
    yourself, Alma.
Alma let's him go. He jumps onto Entei's back. Entei starts
    to move.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Felix!

    FELIX
    Yes?

    CHRISTOPHER
Look after Phyllis while I'm gone.
    You're a good person.

    FELIX
    Thank you, Christopher.
Entei starts to sprint, crossing the land as swift as a gale.

Alma watches the massive beast carrying the small human like
a doll disappear onto the horizon. She closes her eyes.

    ALMA
Okay, get it together girl. Turner
Town. How do I get there?

INT. MOUNT SILVER PEAK - DAY

Alma, Berny and Razer enter Lugia's prison, where they find
the boat that Hisao used centuries ago.

Alma rides Berny down the mountain slope toward the coast,
Razer follows her, carrying the raft in his mouth.

EXT. FOOT OF THE BELL TOWER - AFTERNOON

Drenched in moonlight, Entei, whose crest continue to grow
back, slows to a walking pace as he approaches the foot of
the tower. Christopher dismounts, he stares upward. The top
of the tower is shrouded in cloud. He walks to the entrance,
an archway wide open like a mouth, where the outline of a
staircase can be seen in the shadows. He stops, then turns to
    Entei.

He beckons, but the banished Entei shakes his head.

Christopher turns back to the tower, gives himself a couple
of light slaps on his cheek, then walks into the tower,
through the archway, the darkness enveloping him.

He ascends the staircase. Looking up, he see the helix
staircase rise up into a black void.

    EXT. JOHTO COASTLINE - NIGHT

Razer and Alma push the raft out into the water, Berny
sitting aboard the raft. Alma jumps aboard the raft. With
both claws on the back of the raft, Razer pushes against the
raft, acting as the boats propeller, swishing his tail back
and forth in the water to push the raft forward.

INT. BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

Up, and up Christopher climbs, one foot after the other. The
ground floor becomes smaller and smaller, drifting away.

He stumbles, his arms flailing for balance. The staircase has
    come to an end.

He looks around for another way out, spots a hole in the wall
and makes his way onto the other side, sidling along a creaky
wooden beam on the outside of the tower.

Christopher almost looks down, he catches a quick glimpse of
his heels extruding from the edge of the beam, below them a
thousand foot drop. He squeezes his eyes shut.

    CHRISTOPHER
No. Bad idea. Don't look there.
Come on, you can do this. It's just
    like getting away from coppers.

He opens his eyes, his head tilts up.

The layer of cloud between him and Ho-oh now only a hundred
    meters away.

He starts to clamber up the side of the tower wall, using
every gap and edge in the wooden structure to push himself
up. The wood creaks as it sways in the wind.

EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

The sea is still, a beam of moonlight is drawn across the
    rippling ocean surface.

Alma sits upon the wooden boat at its tip, scanning the sea
    in front of her.

Berny is behind her, flames blaze from his back to provide
light. Razer continues to push the boat.

A wall of fog lies ahead. It crawls across the surface of the
water toward the boat like a giant mouth, engulfing the boat.

    Nothing can be seen.

A moaning sound can be heard from beneath the water.

Razer hops onto the boat as everyone scans the water in all
    directions. Nothing.

Behind the boat, out of the fog, a massive iron helmet upon a
silver neck rises out the water.

ALMA opens her mouth to scream. FWOOSH. A massive silver arm
explodes out the surface of the water and SEND THE BOAT
    FLYING.

Alma pinwheels in mid-air, the world spinning around her.

CRASH. She hits the water surface. She's under. She surfaces.

ALMA gasps, looks around her, nothing but fog.

    ALMA
    Razer? Berny?

CRASH. A massive arm impacts the water beside Alma. A spray
    of water crashes over Alma.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    HELP ME.

SLAM. An arm presses her under the water, further into the
    blackness.

    CUT TO:

EXT. BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

Rain pounds on Christopher's back. His fingertips wrapped
around a plank of wood. He SLIPS. He FALLS.

THUD. THUD. THUD. The wooden scaffolding tosses him left and
right as he falls. He Screams in pain.

    CUT TO:
EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

LUGIAS outstretched palm pushes ALMA deeper.

The hand withdraws, gripping Alma's ankle between the
    fingers.

GAAASP. Alma breaths in, dragged out the water, into the air,
    higher and higher.

    CUT TO:

EXT. BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

PLUNK. Christopher impacts a wooden beam, flat on his back.

He cries out, rain filling his mouth.

He clutches his arm, fist clenched. He stretches it out, then
recoils, wincing, breathing fast and harsh. He whimpers.

    CHRISTOPHER
    No, no, no...
    CUT TO:

EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

Alma continues to be carried up by Lugia.

ROAR. RAZER leaps out the water, toward Alma.

She reaches to him, GRABS his teeth. He falls, yanking her
    from LUGIA.

SPLASH. The two impact the water. They look up.

Two massive outstretched palms in front of a hideous black
    mask close in.

BLAM. BLAM. BLAM. Fiery will-o-wisps strike the mask from
BERNY, perched upon an upside down boat.

    CUT TO:

EXT. BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

Christopher's eyes are shut. Like a fish on land, Christopher
lies flat on the scaffolding, gasping for air, writhing in
    pain.

He stops moving, opens his eyes, Breathes in, Breathes out.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Can't stop...can't stop.

He's up. With one arm, he grips a vertical wooden support
beam, he pushes himself upwards with his legs and his arm.
    He ascends the tower.

    CUT TO:

EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

Alma climbs on Razers back, he swims toward Berny, still
    summoning will-o-wisps to attack Lugia.

She sees Lugia's glowing eyes behind the glass lenses of the
helmet that it uses to see out of.

    ALMA
Berny, Razer, I have an idea.
    Here's what we do...

    CUT TO:

EXT. BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

Christopher climbs, yelling every time he pulls his body up,
wind and rain pound his face.

    Up. Up. Up.

    CUT TO:

EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

BERNY continues his fiery assault on Lugia, this time with
fire blasts from his mouth instead of will-o-wisps.

LUGIA blocks the barrage with it's hands, it moves its hands
    closer to Berny.

BERNY summons several will-o-wisps, blue flames swirling
around his body, then LAUNCHES them in all directions.

The will-o-wisps home in on the back of Lugia's helmet.

    ALMA
    Now!
RAZER dives under the water, ALMA on his back.

The will-o-wisps EXPLODE on the back of Lugia's helmet,
pushing it's head forward toward the water.

RAZER leaps out the water, latches onto Lugia's helmet.

Arms glowing, he grips the glass. The glass vibrates and
    SHATTERS.

LUGIA starts to shake its head, Alma and Razer cling as they
    sway back and forth.

    CUT TO:

EXT. BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

Christopher continues climbing, up into the layer of cloud.

    It shrouds him.

    CUT TO:

EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

ALMA takes Darlene's vial from her pocket.

With a flick of it's head, LUGIA flings Alma and Razer off
    the helmet.

As ALMA falls, she THROWS the vial into the hole in helmet
where the glass lens used to be.

The vial BREAKS. Powder envelops Lugia's head.

RAZER and ALMA impact the water, Razer close to the boat,
    Alma further away.

LUGIA closes its eyes, asleep. It's arms fall to its side. It
sinks into the water, the helmet slowly disappearing under
    the surface.

The fog starts to clear. The sun shines on them. It is
    morning.

EXT. TOP OF THE BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

Christopher heaves himself up onto the edge of the tower,
    rolling over, breathing haggard.

The clouds melt away, the light of morning shines on his
face. He stands. He looks around.

He now stands upon the peak of the bell tower, now nothing
    more than a wooden catwalk.

Mountains of cloud extend for miles around him, the sun
    rising.

A massive bird perches on the other side of the catwalk.

Feathers, red, white and green. Tail and crest glimmering
    gold.

Christopher opens his mouth to speak, no words come out.

The bird turns its head, stares at him. It's eyes are ablaze.

It spreads its wings, wider than an airplane.

Ho-oh walks forward, nails digging into the wood, the catwalk
    rumbling with each step.

Christopher backs away, but there's nowhere to run to.

    CUT TO:

EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

Alma swims to the boat as Razer and Berny holds out their
    arms to pull Alma aboard.

    She disappears under the water.

Alma is DRAGGED DOWN, ankle caught in Lugia's fingers. The
sleeping beast descends into the sea with Alma.

Razer dives in after her, swimming downwards.

    CUT TO:

EXT. TOP OF THE BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

BLAST. A stream of golden flames erupts from Ho-oh's mouth,
to the left of Christopher. BLAST. Again, to the right.

It stops, cranes its neck down toward Christopher, mouth
open, gold light emanating from its throat like a jet engine.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Please, no. I made a mistake. I
    can't pass the trial. No!

FLASH. Gold fire ENGULFS Christopher like a tornado, with him
at the eye of the storm.

He looks at his fingertips, they burn.

His hands burn. His arms burn. His feet burn. His legs burn.

    His torso burns.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Help, Alma! HELP!
EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

Alma descends, Razer pursues. She reaches for Razer, but he's
swept away by the current, he ascends for air.

Alma looks up at the waters surface, the light fading as she
    is pulled downwards.

Alma is now a tiny speck in a pitch black space.

    INT. BLACKNESS - SAME TIME

Christopher is now a tiny speck in a pitch black space.

The flames have gone from his body. He wanders, calls out, no
    response.

He hears a voice, faint. He moves closer to the source. It
sounds like the voice of a little girl, calling for help.

He hears the voice of a boy in his pre-teens reply to her.

    CHRISTOPHER
There there, don't cry. What's the
    matter?

    ALMA
    I'm lost. I don't know where I am.
I want my mum and dad.

    CHRISTOPHER
Where did you last see them?

    ALMA
At the station. We were meant to go
together, but the doors cut us off.

    CHRISTOPHER
Well let's go back then, I bet
they're waiting for you at the next
    station.

    ALMA
I don't know where it is. I got
    scared, I just kept walking...

    CHRISTOPHER
I know this place like the back of
    me hand. We'll go together.
The black space melts away, revealing a familiar setting.

EXT. SPELTER CITY STREETS - NIGHT

High above the city, the nights sky is covered in stars like
a sandy beach, the moon large like a great silver coin.

Adult Christopher watches as Child Christopher takes Child
Alma's hand and walks her to the station. They board the
    train.

Adult Christopher follows, passers-by ignoring his presence.
The children board the train, the adult boards after them.
    The train sets off.

AT THE NEXT STATION. The two children get off the train. Sure
enough, Alma's parents are there waiting for her.

She runs to them. They embrace as Child and Adult Christopher
    watch from the train.

Child Alma runs back to Child Christopher.

    CHRISTOPHER
See? What did I tell you? They were
here all along. You got all namby-
    pamby for nothing.

    ALMA
Thank you for everything, uh, I
never got your name. What was it?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Christopher, my name is
    Christopher. And yours?

    ALMA
I'm Alma. Thank you for everything
    Christopher.
The train doors close. The train leaves the station.

Adult Christopher watches as the distance between him and the
two children on the station becomes greater and greater.

    CUT TO:

    EXT. BELL TOWER - MORNING

In the blink of an eye, Christopher is at the base of the
tower, back in the real world.

Entei, who has been sitting, crest regenerated, gets up and
    backs away.

There is something in Christopher's hand, a feather,
    nacreous, glimmering.

EXT. JOHTONIAN SEA - SAME TIME

A light in the darkness. Alma, sees Berny's will-o-wisps
    descending to her position.

They impact Lugia's arm, dislodging her ankle from its
    fingers.

She swims up to the light. Razer approaches and grabs her in
    his arms.

The two approach the surface at high speed. They break
through the surface, they land on the boat.

Alma gasps for air, then she starts laughing.

Alma, Berny and Razer huddle together.

    EXT. MOUNT SILVER - DAY

Snorlax and Felix sit by Phyllis, who lies still. In the
distance they see Entei and Christopher coming in fast.

Entei stops. Christopher dismounts, he walks over to Phyllis.

He places the feather on her body.

    Her body glows.

EXT. TURNER TOWN CLIFF - EVENING

The large boat is left on the beach as Alma, Razer and Berny
scramble up the hill to the edge of the cliff where the
cherry blossom is. On the side of the tree opposite the doors
entrance, they find Hisao beside an exhausted Yanmega.

    HISAO
    I figured you'd come eventually.
    Stubborn girl. Is Lugia coming?

    ALMA
We put him to sleep, but he'll come
around soon. You can't be here,
you're putting my town in danger.

    HISAO
And a beautiful town it is too. I
think Mother would have loved it.

    ALMA
    Mother?

    HISAO
Her radiance would light up every
room she walked into, and all would
turn to look at her as she passed,
if only for a moment. Ever since
she passed away I've been searching
for a beauty that could parallel
    hers. Bellossom, Lugia, this town.
But beauty, if ever it does exist,
    will inevitably be annihilated.
This world does not deserve such
    things.
The past versions of Christopher and Felix can be heard
arguing on the other side of the tree, not knowing that they
    are being listened to.

    ALMA
Hisao, there's no time. The future
that we needed to stop isn't
changing. We have to leave right
    this second.

Once again, the horrible noise is heard from the ocean.
Lugia rises out of the water.

    HISAO
    Yanmega!

He leaps onto Yanmega's back, Yanmega flies. Lugia climbs in
great strides inland in their direction, over Alma's head.

Again, the tornado is created. Again, the past versions of
Christopher, Alma and Felix retreat and again Celebi's
    antenna is severed.

The tornado sucks in Yanmega and Hisao, they tumble through
    the air.

Two massive roots emerge from the ground and constrict
Lugia's wings, stopping their motion. The tornado dies down.

Yanmega and Hisao fall to the ground, two more sets of roots
    catch them, breaking their fall.

The wind stops and all is still. Out to sea, Alma sees
    something approaching.

Entei is running, creating volcanic eruptions from a fault
line in the seabed, forming a massive bridge of basalt for
    him to cross.

Behind Entei is CHRISTOPHER riding a MEGANIUM, a large, green
sauropod with huge pink petals, twice the size of a Bayleef.

Entei approaches land, up the hill toward Lugia, with
    Christopher and Phyllis following.

Christopher dismounts, Phyllis approaches Lugia. She
BREATHES. Pink mist emanates from her mouth and covers the
    land.

    The mist clears.

Flowers start to grow, daisies, roses, crocuses, all species.

The land where the mist was is covered in flowers. Tree
    saplings start to grow too.

The saplings quickly become great, towering trees with leaves
of every colour, red, green, orange, pink, yellow.

More and more ground is covered. The trees turn to a forest.
Lugia is surrounded, vibrant leaves and petals on every side.

As the forest grows, the tree branches coil around Lugia.

IN THE TOWN. The petals and leaves drift from the trees down
to the town. The townsfolk, including the Corwins and the
    Harpers, go outside.

They see the town awash with leaves and petals, like a
    kaleidoscopic monsoon.

BACK AT THE CLIFF, the branches reach into the gaps in
Lugia's helmet, pulling. The helmet starts to split.

For the first time in a cenutry, Lugia can see more than just
    two narrow slits.

The split in the helmet becomes a large hole. Lugia's eye can
    be seen.

    Phyllis gives a ROAR.

With a final tug, the branches TEAR THE HELMET IN TWO.
Lugia's head can finally be seen.

Lugia cries out, the voice no longer muffled and metallic,
    but soft, clear and unwavering.

    CUT TO:

EXT. BELL TOWER - SAME TIME

Ho-oh raises its head as it hears a call it hasn't heard in
500 years. Ho-oh takes flight, heading toward Turner Town.

    CUT TO:

EXT. TURNER TOWN CLIFF - EVENING

Ho-oh appears on the horizon, it swoops toward the cliff,
then perches on the ground beside Lugia.

Lugia is defensive, backing away. Ho-oh approaches and gently
strokes Lugia's scared face with his beak. The scars heal.

The sun sets. Ho-oh and Lugia light up in the low light,
beasts of shining gold and silver.

Ho-oh turns to Christopher and Phyllis, taking a bow.
Christopher and Phyllis bows in return.

    Christopher bolts upright.

    CHRISTOPHER
    Actually, if there's anyone you
    should be thanking...

    (points to Entei)
    ...it's him. I know what you're
thinking but at least listen before
you send him away. He never gave up
looking for Lugia while you were
gone. He's the reason Lugia was
found. If it were me, I'd have him
    as my guardian.
Ho-oh looks over at Entei with glistening, golden eyes.

    Entei bows to his master.

The golden bird cranes its neck and softly taps him on the
head with the tip of his beak, as though knighting them.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    And one other thing.
    (Points to Hisao)
    Break his curse. He's been
tormented long enough, now let him
    be at peace.
Ho-oh looks over at Hisao. Hisao, the pitiful old man, falls
to his knees with his hands clasped together.

With a swish of its wing, Ho-oh blows a gust of wind at
Hisao. The flames clinging to his skin are extinguished.

Hisao's skin starts to turn to dust, he fades away.

    HISAO
Christopher, I was wrong about you.
    Hisao returns to the earth.

Ho-oh walks over to the edge of the cliff, then looks back at
    Lugia who doesn't follow.

    CHRISTOPHER
    (To Lugia)
Go on, isn't this the moment you've
been waiting for? You should go and
be where you belong, with Ho-oh.

Lugia joins Ho-oh on the other side of the cliff. Ho-oh takes
flight. Lugia, shaky at first, copies Ho-oh's wing motions.

Lugia takes to the sky alongside Ho-oh. They return to Johto,
Entei follows across the basalt bridge.

Celebi flies over to Christopher, taps him on the shoulder,
and gestures to a girl, Christopher looks at her.

The lost girl that Christopher walked to the station walks
    toward him, then stops.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Alma...

    ALMA
    Christopher...

Alma runs toward Christopher and takes him in her arms.

    ALMA (CONT’D)
    I missed you so much.

    CHRISTOPHER
Oh you sentimental old sap, you.

    ALMA
Phyllis? Is that you? You look so
    different.

    CHRISTOPHER
She's still the same old Phyllis
    though, aren't you?
Phyllis rests her head on Christopher's shoulder as he holds
    her.

Razer and Berny run up to Christopher and crowd him.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
    Oi, easy does it.

Celebi watches the five of them all together again, she wipes
    a tear from her eye.

    ALMA
    (To Celebi)
Good to see you still in one piece,
    Celebi. Well almost.

    CHRISTOPHER
You're welcome to come join us
    anytime, you know.
Headlights illuminate Celebi, she gasps, turns and flees back
    to Johto.

A pair of cars make their way through the flower fields and
stops before them. Gramps leans out the window.

    CHRISTOPHER (CONT’D)
Oh now look what you've done,
    you've scared off Celebi.

    GRAMPS
    Christopher you pillock! Do you
have any idea have worried you've
    made us?
Christopher's parents get out their car. They run to him,
scooping him up in their arms.

Alma's parent get out of their car and run to Alma, also
scooping her up in their arms.

    CHRISTOPHER
I swear, if you start glitching out
    again...

    MRS CORWIN
Glitch out? What are you talking
    about?

    CHRISTOPHER
    Long story.

    MRS HARPER
    (To Alma)
Honey, we need to have a talk about
    your...friends. I'm not sure I
    approve of this.
    Berny gives her a hug.

    MRS HARPER (CONT’D)
Oh my. So warm and fluffy...

    MR HARPER
They're much bigger than they look
    on television.

    ALMA
They used to be a lot smaller,
they're only big because I helped
    them evolve.

    MR HARPER
Evolve? But I thought only other
    Pokemon...

    ALMA
Nope, it's a human thing too.
Berny and Razer nod in agreement.

    MR HARPER
Huh, how do you like that? My
little girl is a Pokemon trainer.

    MRS HARPER
I didn't even know there was such a
    thing as a Pokemon trainer.
Snorlax, Felix riding on her back, climbs up the basalt
bridge to the top of the cliff.

    FELIX
    Guys, what happened? We were
crossing the bridge and we saw Ho-
oh and Lugia flying overhead. How
did you get the helmet off?

    (To Christopher & Alma's
    parents)
Sorry, I know this is confusing. My
    name is Felix Knapp.

    MR CORWIN
Felix? Right, I want a word with
    you.

    CHRISTOPHER
Hold your horses, Dad. Me and Alma
    will deal with him.
    Alma holds up the Pokedex.

    ALMA
    That's right, we have some
    unfinished business we need to
    attend to, don't we Felix?

    FELIX
    Oh yes. Yes we do.
    INT./EXT. VARIOUS LOCATIONS - CONTINUOUS

    - Felix's garage - Felix, Christopher and Alma pitch the
    completed Pokedex to an investor.

    - Berny, Phyllis and Razer are brought out to impress the
investor further, so much so he falls back on his chair.

    - At a trade event - The three stand on stage showcasing a
sleek new iteration of the Pokedex.

    - In a moving van - The Corwins read a magazine, the three on
the cover with the headline "Changing the way we see
    Pokemon".

    - Outside the van - Throughout Turner Town, people and
Pokemon live out their lives out in harmony.

    - In the new Corwin household - The Corwins steps inside
their new, spacious, beautiful cottage home in Turner Town.

    - Alma, Felix and the other Pokemon arrive. Snorlax is
    carrying a big picnic basket.

    - At Turner Town cliff - The Corwins, Harpers, Pokemon and
Felix are sitting on a large blanket, eating tea and cakes.

    - Christopher and Alma sits on deckchairs by the cliff,
    reading through Alma's book.

    - In the distance, small but still visible, two creatures can
be seen perched on a tower, one gold, the other silver.

Read the 1st act this weekend & enjoyed it. I think it moves too slowly for a movie tho, & it's a bit hard to understand the world as presented.

Having said that, Willie Wonka does take its time to introduce things, & Pokemon can be hard top get into as an adult. This is a new introduction to a new version of the world; that could affect my understanding of it. Maybe I've just been out of the loop too long; I haven't seen much beyond the first season or two of the anime, & I haven't played much beyond Crystal version...

Thank you for giving it a read! Glad you're enjoying it. What was it about the world that's confusing for you exactly? (It's worth noting that I based the Anglis region on England and I wrote this before the Galar region was announced, I don't know if that has anything to do with it)

The beginning felt like I was dropped into a world where I didn't know all the rules, & it took a bit of time to catch up. Reminded me of Rankin-Bass' version of The Hobbit.

Read a bit more of it after writing this. It does have the right sense of magic & wonder. Some critiques:

    1) Early on, the two kids take the Pokemon around their town. It's cute, but you've already established that Pokemon are illegal, & considered dangerous. I'd imagine someone would see them & call the police. You can keep the scene, but I'd recommend having the police show up sometime. Obviously, the kids would have to outrun them, perhaps the Pokemon help.

    2) When the Scizor attack in Act 2 the girl steps on a Paras is paralyzed by stunspore. I know it's supposed to be funny, but that seems wrong; it breaks the scene's tension. If that was treated seriously, if the boy had to give her a berry really quickly so they could get out of there, it might work better.

I still need to finish it, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Hi, I know this is a late reply, but it just took me a while to think of what to say.

I realized when writing that the kids should've drawn attention to themselves with the Pokemon they had when running around Turner Town, but I left it out because the "prologue" was already long enough as it was and I saw it as too small of a detail to include. Normally, with scripts, you're not meant to go into excessive detail because that's the directors job (I realize I'm a hypocrite for saying this because the script is a lot more detailed than would be considered acceptable in a professional setting).

With regards to the Scizor scene, I didn't intend for it to be a "tense" scene, as there had just been a tense scene beforehand in Ibex forest. I think what I should have communicated better was that the Scizor's weren't trying to kill Christopher and Alma, they were guarding the cave because they were working for Team Zephyr.

I'm happy to hear you think the script has magic and wonder, that's definitely the feeling I was trying to get across.
