I don´t like those pure psychic pokémon too much, but I prefer Gardevoir over Alakazam. Gardevoir has better attacks, can resist some psychical attacks (Zangooze with quick attack deals a heavy damage on kazam).

Alakazam, Lugia(really good in my Crystal),Rayquaza and umm I would recommend Hypno if you raise it really well.

Suicune (though it's better as a bulky water), Vaporeon, Espeon, almost any special-typed Pokemon with a decent Special stat.

Here's my list of the ones worth using in battle frontier:

1. starmie: pike, dome, tower, pyramid, palace
2. gengar: pyramid, tower
3. gardevoir: arena, pyramid, tower
4. houndoom: pyramid
5. lapras: pyramid

I like Starmie, Alakazam, Vaporeon (also a good tank ), Espeon, Houndoom, Sceptile (With T-Punch, Leaf Blade, Dragon Breath/Claw, Crunch it rocks), etc.
