Okay, but I know some people who won't play a good game because of poor graphics, or someone who plays a game because of good graphics, but has bad graphics. So what do your prefer? graphics or gameplay.

Well, Sometimes, Graphics are the only thing to go on if you look at Magazine ads that dont describe much. But once you get the game, It has good gameplay. I go more for story line, so i guess that goes in with Game play, but good graphics are a plus (Baten Kaitos is a good example of a game that didnt skimp on the Story, Game Play, or Graphics)

I'd really prefer both if possible. Since we had to choose one or the other, I picked gameplay though. Nowadays, games have enough resources to have good graphics. If they don't, they shows bad planning by the game designer. Either that or they cut corners making the game. Not much else to say about it though. I want enough gameplay for more than a couple of hours though. That's 1 drawback to a TOTALLY graphical game. There isn't usually as much of the game.

Gameplay, of course. However, graphics can be important, too. If we didn't have them, we'd all be stuck playing nothing but text games (no offense towards anyone who enjoys those). Plus, it's kinda rewarding to keep playing just to see what that attack looks like, to see what appearance the final boss takes on, or to see those ending scenes.

I prefer Gameplay. Games with good graphics but arent fun or amazing aren't worth it. All we can hope for is good gameplay and graphics to follow. I will play a game if it has good gameplay - not just because of graphics.

Graphics can be a very important part of gameplay. Look at something like Condemned for the 360, it's possible the scariest game ever, not just because of the storyline or the things that happen, but also because the graphics are believable and you be completely emersed in the world around you.

Of course, game play is still the most important aspect of any game, but I just needed to point out, that graphics can make a good game, great.

Yep. That's kinda what I meant about both. If you have good gameplay, but not really good graphics, it could make an outstanding game a mediocre one. It helps to have both, but without sacrificing either. Too much gameplay could make you have to struggle to finish it. Too much graphics, and there might not be anything to play.

I prefer Gameplay. The graphics I can deal with but if the gameplay isn't interesting enough, then I wouldn't play it anyways.

Gameplay. No freakin' contest...

As far as I'm concerned, graphics are the least important aspect in a Videogame. I tend to look over for a good concept or plot (Which will also fail if the gameplay is horrid. Hi FFVIII...) when I see which game to buy. The game has to be playable and fun to play in order to be chosen. Graphics are nice, but they don't make or break a game unless the atmosphere isn't well-managed with the chosen graphic engine. That's about the only situation when "inappropriate" graphics can ruin a game, but Music does more for the setting and atmosphere than graphics ever will...

I can enjoy old crud like Pac-Man and modern masterpieces like Metroid Prime equally. Graphics just doesn't matter to me... =/

Gameplay.

See how badly the DS is eating up PSP in sales? PSP focuses on graphics and gameplay, but Nintendo was innovated with DS. Besides, Sony's PSP doesn't have a wide variety of games. It doesn't have anything that's innovated like Nintendogs.

And I bet Nintendo is right about the Revolution. See, while Microsoft and Sony are working so hard on their systems to make their graphics engine's deadly, they need to also focus on gameplay and a diverse genre of games that would make it appealing for consumers.

Nintendo has done that with their franchises of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon ect. Since the Revolution (from what I've heard), will have more cutting edge graphics that are up to the standards of the ORIGINAL Xbox. But, Nintendo is making a choice with something even more. Nintendo is going to work on a new feature that would enhance picture quality of their games on regular TVs or HDs without 720i or 1080i or whatever, but to cut out all the blurred lines and fuzzy marks that a GCN game would have on a TV.

I own a Philips HD TV, but it (I don't know at the moment), has 720i or 1080i capabilities. I have the Component Video cord for my GCN. I can't do Progressive Scan on this TV because the picture is out of whack. BUT, if I play the GCN on the CVI channel, my picture for Pokemon XD is VERY clear-cut. The same thing with my Xbox as well, the picture is just clear as crystal as my GCN is.

I really don't think that graphics make a game enjoyable. It has to be gameplay, storyline, and characters for me. I know that the Revolution will bring a lot of new ways to play games on TVs and HDs or whatever. Not saying that Xbox 360 or PS3 will be bad, but they will do good for what they are capable of.

Nintendo said this for themselves, that they know if a consumer WANTS to buy a 360 or PS3, that'll be good because then they might be able to purchase a Revolution that has a cheaper price along with what they just bought. Besides, I only think that it's up to the consumer to purchase what they want for themselves.

Well, I'd say gameplay but then again, one of the main reasons I didn't like FF7 was the graphics. I just didn't think a guy with seriously blocky arms was very good. But then AGAIN, I also didn't like it because it mixed guns and swords (I prefere them seperate) so it's a close call. I'm going to stick with gameplay as I feel amazing graphics don't make a game but good gameplay does.

EDIT: But then, like the idiot I am, I clicked "Graphics" in the poll. Probably because I'm tired...

Gameplay, the game could have the best graphics ever, but still play like crud.
Some of the worst looking games, graphic-wise, are the best games, gameplay-wise.

Both.

I can put up with a retro Sega Saturn game (Haha, the blockyness), but a current gen game has no excuses to have horrible graphics. I like a game that's pleasant to look at. If graphics weren't so important, I don't think I'd still be playing PDO.

Gameplay's gotta be good. Crappy gameplay=drink coaster. At least I won't be spilling my coffee any time soon.

Well, lets see, Do I want Cutting edge, crispy, smooth Graphics? Or do I want Smooth, Creative, long lasting, appealing gameplay? Well, this is determined by this here chart:

Graphic Player:I want my graphics to be amazing, realistic, photo-realistic, mind blowing Graphics! If it has no good graphics, I am not playin fool! The graphics make the game! I mean, with A game with simple and/or normal graphics, that is or isn't a budget title, I can only PLAY the game. Thats it. Nothin but tryin to figure out what those little triangles in the background are. Are they Trees or Am I back In preschool? Now, If the game has Good or AMAZING Graphics, Instead of just Playing the game, I can LOOK AT IT!

Gameplay Player: Well,I don't care if the game has Out dated or just plain BAD graphics! I just want it to have clean, smooth, revolutionizing gameplay! Maybe like Halo 2, Resident Evil 4, or some Nintendo Revolution Game! I hate it when the game has blocky animations WHEN YOU MOVE. I hate it when you are playing, you start to think (Mysterious person) "Wow, I think I am having one serious Dajevou!, that, or I did this on the last game!"

Now, You don't have to be like this to be a Graphic Player or Gameplay player, for these were exagerations. But in the end, I would like to play a game with good graphics and good gameplay.

To me, Gameplay is what it is all about. When I think of my favorite games ever, the first thing that comes to mind is how they played, not how they looked. I still play my Nintendo 64 and Super NES to this day, because the games are good.

FYI: When I refer to gameplay, I am refering to storyling, levels, and everything but graphics.

Maybe you should actually read the points people made about graphics. Take Metal Gear Solid, for example. It's an extremely cinematic game, it doesn't have much gameplay, it's msotly about the story. But it's still a great game, with what little gameplay it has. But if MGS4 looks like total crap, then it's going to completely ruin the experience, isn't it? I'm still not saying graphics are THE most important thing ever, but there are certain cases were graphics are extremely important to a game, namely those that focus highly on story. Again, I'll point out Condemned as a prime example. It manages to be scary as hell buy completely immersing you in the world around you, it's all very beleivable. Without it's graphics, it would lose that, and just be a standard action game.

A nice mix of both makes an ideal gaming experience for me. I don't like graphics that are so realistic that you can't tell the difference - video games are an escape from reality, a place for me to just enjoy myself, so if it gets too real it's...not much of a 'vacation'. I'm a sucker for a good storyline, though, so even games lacking in graphics are still some of the better ones to me. Final Fantasy VI, anyone?

There are more recent games with a good hybrid of graphics, gameplay, and storyline, though. Baten Kaitos, as Haku pointed out, had a very good storyline, beautiful graphics, and an easy to grasp gameplay (And I'm not much for card-based battle systems). Another gem was Tales of Symphonia. It's not too often that these games come around, though, so to make my answer clear, I voted for Gameplay. Graphics are just another pretty face without personality.

Considering the price I have to pay, I'd say both, but music and content is a biggger part of my likes and dislikes. There are some games with brilliant graphics and awesome gameplay but the language and music just make me ignore it or sometimes want it off the market.
