Medium: Edit
Sprite source: 5th gen + 6th gen sprites (click on resources or 6th gen sprites on the banner)

Challenge: "Mindblown from front to back!"
This week I want to test your creativity! Search for a backsprite and edit it so it looks like a creature's front sprite. This doesn't have to be look like an existing pokemon just... an own creation.

Also know that from now on you can use the official serebii 6th gen sprite (you can just click on the banner (right bottom))

Have fun with it and try to be as creative a possible!

- max size of 96*96

Yikes! This looks pretty hard. I tried it with Piplup and it didn't turn out too good. I've got all week to make something, so you'll see my entry soon.

On another note, it really is fantastic to see all these people that are coming back to GWSC! We used to only 5/6 people participate, but last week there were too many to count! I think it's just really great to know that spriting is still out there. Good luck everyone!

OH YEAH!!? lol. You might be right I'm struggling this week! Ha. :) oooo I never noticed they were buttons, nice touch!

Used Galvantula, changed the colour red to make it look kinda like a crab - with big bushy eyebrows! Found this week pretty hard! Fun challenge!

EDIT 2: Reshaded so it more suits normal front sprites, forgot to do that before. The right one is the new one.

Grabbed a Mawile and tried to give a fire motif, taking out the other head and making up for it... by setting the other one on fire.

My other attempts at this week's challenge have kinda flopped, so I thought it was worth a shot even though it's not that good. I might replace it if I end up making something better.

The lineart of the headdress looks very neat! Good job. Think the finalised ones should be changed to this. :)

Yes, maybe it is best to transfer this conversation to the x/y sprite thread ^^
I sough it but it was send after the sprite was finalized. I think it is better to only focus on making new sprites now and then do a edit-round, where you can all edit the finalized sprites.
I think there is nothing wrong with your edit but it when I pass this everybody thinks he/she can edit the finalized sprites and then I'm afraid the concept of official permanent X/Y sprites will be lost.

Although the OP said you didn't have to make the chosen back-sprite look like an already-existing Pokémon, that's exactly what I decided to do. :p

Right, so here is my entry:

I chose to use Gloom's back-sprite, and turn it into Exeggutor/Awesome Face mutation. I referenced Gloom's front-facing sprite in regards to the feet, and completely redid the shading and patterning of what were its petals into Exeggutor heads. Some other minor shading here and there, et voila! One edited back-sprite.

The original back-sprite, for reference:
