Gym Badges from other cities not in the game?

As the title goes, it gets me that there might be towns that are not programmed into the game to receive Badges from. I don't know if this would belong in the anime section, so a mod can move this thread if they feel that it should be moved.

You might have known the first case of different Badges that were shown in the first season with Gary showing Ash his Badges. His Badges had different designs, but were they from the towns we would know in the game?

This also goes for some of the Contests (not really sure) that were shown. Well, not shown, but the coordinators had different Ribbons.

Does anyone know if there were more towns with other badges that were not programmed into the game, but were shown in the anime?

There's probably 100's of different Gym Leaders in one region. How else would you think so many people could enter the Tournaments? Ash just went to eight of them...

Yeah, there must be more than 8 Gyms in the same region, only that you only need 8 badges to enter the league. Same for contests.

Nah, I've always seen it that there are many gyms, but only eight "official" ones run by the League. The official ones can be enormous, with numerous stadiums to accomodate many challenegers, and experienced trainers could be hired by the Leader to help battle with new trainers to tutor them in the particular area of battling that the gym specializes in.

There were unofficial Gyms in the Anime, like that guy with the Sandshrew, in the beginning of the 1st season, I can't remember his name though. Was the Whirl Cup official, I don't remember?

Sure, there were more than just eight gyms per region. All those trainers that took part in the league tournaments, no way only eight. The gym leaders who Ash fought wouldn't have been that dtrong if they each lost to about three-hundred trainers. But then againg, Ash always goes up against probably the strongest gym leaders in each region, or maybe not cause other trainers won league tournaments.

I always figured there were more than 8 gyms, but you had to participate in 8 progressively harder gym matches to advance to the League.

I also think that each gym leader has different teams depending on who comes to fight them. If Ash had come to Koga for his first badge, Koga probably would've used venonat and something else instead (maybe koffing). If he'd come there for his 8th badge, Koga could've used a Nidoking, Venomoth, and/or something else for a harder match. The only one I couldn't see doing this would be Giovanni, unless he's only allowed to be a gym leader if he follows regulated rules.

His name was A.J. (like my first initials lol) who had the Sandshrew. The Whirl Cup was held by the Pokémon League in the Johto Region, but it was a tournament for Water-type battlers.

When I saw the Trainers in the first sagas who had different badges than Ash, I spazzed out and kept calling my girlfriend at the time (who lives up north, and she's a Pokémon fan). I was so anxious because of the different badges, I told her, "OMG, there's different badges, Courtney!! I'm so excited! Maybe there are different Gyms?..."

They just add the badges that are in the game so that they can be filler. Look at it. In the games, Hoenn has eight badges. In the anime, there is the Hoenn League where 600 people enter the thing. Kind of hard to believe that those eight Gym Leaders would lose 600 times, right? Also, the reason why there are fake cities is because in the anime, regions are like countries. I never heard of a country that only had ten to twenty cities/towns, so they must have added those names for filler or to make the show fit. But people like to make shippings with the unheard badges and cities.

WHERE IS PIDGEOT?!
itd be good if there were more than 8 gyms available to battle with in DP. maybe the teams the leaders use could depend on what number badge you want...?

i always assumed that gary's weird badges were just different designs, not seperate gyms...

Hmm, that's a very interesting idea. It would make sense too, because it wouldn't be fair for a beginer trainer with a Bulbasaur has to face Giovanni with his Machamp first >>.

When trainers show their badge case, you see other badges. Therefore there are other Gyms that Ash and co. do not visit. I always thought it would be an interesting twist for Ash to get a badge from a gym that isn't in the game.

Then why would Norman tell you to beat 4 gyms before accepting your challenge?

How many badges did Gary get during the Kanto league? Was it not ten, and even then he lost to MewTwo at the Viridian gym.

I think it'd be nice to have a few more, minor gyms, in the anime. It would add a little spice to the filler material in between the actual main gym battles. Perhaps they could be more skill orientated gyms like the ones of the Orange Islands, rather than outright battles.

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
Gary had 10 badges when he met Ash in Viridian. He was going for his 11th badge at the Gym, until he got owned by Giovanni and Mewtwo.

Why Gary spent his time getting more than 8 badges we'll never know, because all he needed was 8.

Yeah, that makes sense. Gym Leaders are supposed to be fairly elite trainers. Not Elite Four level, but certainly well above average. If they weren't, they would be pointless; being able to gain access to the League tournaments by simply beating weak trainers would make no sense. And anybody whose losses for a single year are in triple digits is in no way "elite".

It makes sense too, if you look at Brock.

Brock met Ash, a young inexperienced trainer, and thus used his weak Onix and Geodude to battle him (weak enough that a Pikachu could thundershock Onix) He desides he's going to travel with Ash, and thus takes those two weaker pokemon with him, leaving behind his more experienced pokemon with his father, who is now running the gym. As he's traveling, he's training his weaker pokemon along side his new friend. Misty can fit this as well, she left home with a few weak pokemon, like a beginer would, met up with Ash and battled him for the gym badge. Her sisters, the real gym leaders, had access to much stronger pokemon, and continued to battle with them. Had Ash came to either gym as an already semi-experienced trainer, I believe both Brock and Misty would have challenged him with more experienced pokemon. (similar to the way Falkner did in Johto.)

As for the different badges, well it's simple. The show is an advertisement for the games, and because of this they have Ash go specificly to the 8 gyms featured in the games. Since Ash is the main character, there's really no need to focus on the other gyms at all, but to make the world seem more real, they put in "other gyms" just to show you that Ash could have gone to other places rather then where he ended up.
