Gyms versus Contests

OK, I've started this to see who thinks Gyms are the best or Contests are the best!
Rules:
The poll is here for a reason! USE IT!
This thread is going to contain other people's opinions, RESPECT THEM!

This should be in polls, but anyway I prefer gyms. Pokemon Coordinating has always been second to badge-collecting and gym leader-defeating and League tournament-participating for me. It's simply the original, and better thing.

Contests are just plain awful to me. I prefer Gyms but both are a bit tiring now.

Whoo! Another Gymer! Not really, i mean, contests hold many surprises like your opponents, their Pokemon etc.
Then again, Gyms have unexpected trainers (in the game) and in the anime, they hold great stages!

Aside from the great battling in Gyms, I find Contests more entertaining.

Gyms have gotten so stale nowadays it isn't funny. Ash has been to 28 Gyms and 7 Battle facilities, they're so overdone. Most of the Gym leaders have stale and wooden personalities, especially the AG ones.

I think what sucks about them is that Ash's interactions with the Gym leaders is so boring. They just say "hello" to each other and then start battling.

Then again, after being to 30+ Gyms, it's no wonder why they feel stale.

The character interactions in the Contests is SO much better. Most of the battles are pretty good too.

Now, for my second verdict:
Gyms may be the way to go most of the time, to advance on in the Championships etc., But, Contests have a wider variety of learning capabilities, such as how your moves are Cute, Tough, or Cool etc. or how a Pokemon might enjoy themselves ina contest, you also meet new Trainers, Pokemon, and improve your knowledge of other moves!
The third and final of my verdicts will be out tomorrow!

I like gym battles MUCH better then contests. I didn't even bother watching most of the contests in Hoenn. They're just too boring for my taste, not to mention they're rigged in May's favor. There's no possible way that her newly captured Skitty could beat a well trained Cyclops, which has the advantage. No, contest are just too bad for me.

If you didn't even watch them, how would you think they were bad?

The only way not to like the Contest episodes is if you just don't like good writing. Some wins are cheap like the lame Skitty/Dusclops battle, but most of them aren't.

I watched like the first four contests, and then I stopped watching them.

And how exactly are the contast episodes written well? I thought all of the ones I saw stunk like crap! And the combos that the Pokemon were using made me want to cry. If anything, I think their writting is worse.

Gyms. The Appeals part of Contests nowadays are half-assed and rushed, leading into the battle portion which only serves to piss me (and others) off a good 50% of the time.

Great character interaction, good appeals and well-scripted battles are crap?

The only Contests with poor battles was the Dusclops one, and perhaps the Ariados one.

How anyone can call something like Beautifly Vs. Medicham crap, (which was one of the best battles in all of AG) is beyond me.

There are three big stinkers. Skitty vs. Dusclops, Squirtle vs. Ariados, and Marshtomp vs. Eevee.

There rest are great, tolerable, or just plain.

Marshtompt Vs. Eevee has always been highly blown out of proportion. Yes, Eevee took one too many hits and there was something messed up with the points in that one, but the battle was still highly enjoyable.

Also, the fact that Brock lost by time running out, rather than a KO, is also what saved it from being another mess like the Skitty/Dusclops one.

And yeah, I'd rather not get into the whole Squirtle!Ice beam thing again, that's been done to death and that's Yamato-San's thing anyway.

Sadly, that's how I feel about a lot of the Gyms. The only AG Gym that was really amazing was Winona and Juan. The rest were rather plain, unfortunately.

That's easy to understand and accept because you gravitate towards contests more. Nothing wrong with that. Most things in life are Postive, Neutral, or Negative.

Aside from the fact that I love the Gyms, and Ash's AG Pokemon kick ***?

Roxanne was kind of dull, especially with Pikachu KOing Geodude with Thunderbolt. Brawly's two matches were good, but nothing really amazing. Wattson? LOL.

Flannery was like Brawly's, entertaining but nothing to write home about. Norman was a BIG disappointment, especially the lackluster animation.

Winona was fantastic, Tate/Liza was thrilling but it was dues ex machina moment, and Juan was fairly well done.

The Gym and Contest matches have been on par mostly.
