Yeah, and plus real Manta Rays "glide" through the water (I think they sometimes jump out and "glide" some as well....or wait, am I imagining that.

KK is right about Gyarados' tale except for one thing... the carp in the myth did not become a dragon. He became a flying serpent which is how Gyarados got his flying type. Had the carp became a dragon than Gyarados would have been Water/Dragon.
Yes they do (sort of). They do not "glide" over the water, but they do jump very high out of the water. It must look pretty amazing.

Yes they do. it says so in their pokedex entries. It's why they're the kite pokemon.
