**Most Harry Potter RPG's I've seen are huge--but this one doesn't necessarily have to be. I'm looking at 4-15 people in this RPG...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You might be aware of the legendary conflict between Voldemort and Harry Potter. After Voldemort narrowly missed killing Harry, he mysteriously vanished. Since then, nobody was sure what happened to him--perhaps he died, or perhaps he was still lurking somewhere, waiting to strike... Some people suspected that he would strike again sometime during Harry's term at Hogwarts, but still they couldn't be too sure. For all the years that passed after this fateful indicent, the wizarding world was left in a state of a sort of anxiety. And this brings us to the point where this RPG starts.
It is the year before Harry Potter would start his term in Hogwarts. Witches and wizards across the globe are waiting in anticipation of what will happen when Harry does attend. Some are even a bit concerned. Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore has watched over the school more and more carefully year after year since the incident, and there is even a buzz among the students themselves.
Certain students--of every house--are concerned about the Dark Lord's unknown presence; certain others are worried about the year afterward when Harry comes to school--perhaps there will be some sort of huge disaster. Yet more others are curious about Voldemort's minions, most notably the Death Eaters, and their workings which are also currently unknown. Whatever speculations exist in this dark time, people are finally starting to take action. In Hogwarts, plans are being made to start a club to voice everyone's concerns about Voldemort, his conflict with Harry Potter, and in conclusion the fate of the world itself. So far this club has unofficially been called the Dark Arts Investigators, or DAI for short. (Not to be confused with the DA you may have heard of in the fifth book of the series.)
Luckily, nothing tragic has happened after the conjuring of this club, so that suggests that nobody of dark heart has even heard of it. This club is widely based on predictions and discussions, but they may secretly go on adventures to foil any evil plans that may be taking place. For there could be countless evil plans out there, plans that may be independent of Voldemort altogether. There have, indeed, been speculations of another foe out there that no one else has heard of, but no one knows his/her identity, or whether he/she poses more of a threat than Voldemort does... All the same, this RPG focuses around the workings of that club, and it journeys throughout a year at Hogwarts--the year before Harry Potter first came. Good luck to us all--the fate of the wizarding world may just fall into our hands...
Some things to note about this RPG:
-This is the third time I've said this, but this RPG takes place in the year before Harry Potter begins his first year at Hogwarts. Because of that, everyone from the first book in the series is also in this RPG, unless they're Professor Quirrel or other first-year students. (So there's no Ron, no Hermione, etc--but all the other teachers and non-new students such as Fred and George Weasley are there.)
-Even though this RPG focuses mainly on the DAI, you must remember that we're still in school--we have to deal with the regular happenings in Hogwarts as well. And by the way, this RPG will start a couple of weeks before the school year begins.
-You don't have to be a first-year student in this RPG (though you could if you want to). Any year is accepted.
-This year's Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is Lilice Adouine, who I'll be playing in this RPG. (I'll also play a student, who is also her daughter.) See her signup for more info.
-If you want to play Quidditch for Gryffindor or Slytherin this year, be aware that the captains are the same as in Harry Potter's first year (Oliver Wood and Marcus Flint). For the other houses, we don't know, so just... make them up.
-As you can probably tell, at least a little familiarity with the Harry Potter series will help in this RPG, but this particular RPG will for the most part refer only to the first book. (So don't worry about it if you don't know how the Half-Blood Prince ends--we're not dealing with the future.)
-If you don't like the name of the club, suggest a new one or live with it.
-As for my role in this RPG, I'll be playing the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and a student as well, and I may exercise partial control over Voldemort (and possibly the mysterious new foe) as well.
My signups:
Name: Lilice Adouine (she goes by Professor Lilice, not Professor Adouine for some strange reason)
**Age: 31 (She's not a student, so I have to put her age.)
Gender: Female
House: N/A (She kind of favors Ravenclaw but doesn't bias for her house like Snape does.)
Type: Muggle-born
Appearance: Lilice is 5'2" tall. She has light tan-coloured skin, wavy red hair that is partially up in the back, and deep amber eyes. Normally she would wear a short with flowing sleeves and colours of sunset, and a long skirt of blue with hints of flowers, and black boots that are... just black... but then there's the occasional shiny purple robe on top. She also carries a wand that is exactly twice the length of her hand and the exact colour of her eyes.
Personality: Lilice is what you would call a very spiritual person. She often looks past the ordinary for the answers to things, and therefore she hardly ever agrees with popular belief simply because it's popular. She often acts in her own self-interest, but she doesn't let that get in the way of caring about others. Going with that, she's quite secretive--there are many things about her that she just never mentions. (Some of those things won't even be revealed until later on in the RPG...) As for her teaching, she is not really a firm believer in homework, but she gives it a little bit anyways. All she cares about really is that the students learn the material and understand it should they so choose. She can have a tendecy to go off topic with her day-to-day teachings, but she always tries to make things interesting. She also doesn't care to follow the rules closely--she'll only crack down on the rules she believes to be sensible.
History: When Lilice was a student at Hogwarts, she took particular interest in Divination. She was always a strong believer in the Sight, and she often wished she had the right gifts to become a Seer. Yet teachers also noticed that Lilice seemed to have good roots in Potions, and many considered Defense Against the Dark Arts her definite best subject. Her many and (fairly) easily-earned O.W.L's and N.E.W.T's in that subject were probably her best achievements. Overall, she did well in all her classes (except Herbology--clearly her worst subject), so she ended up with too many good-looking choices for a career and thus couldn't decide on one by the time she graduated. For much of her life she did a few different things here and there, without a definite career path. For part of the time she tried her hand at Seerism but was only successful (very successful in that time when her Sight was high--she made one notable prophecy and a few more... secret... ones) for a couple of months. For a while she worked for the Ministry of Magic, but she quit her job when Cornelius Fudge started running the show there, and she saw him as an idiot. There was even a time when she was an Auror--this she seemed to like most of all. There was adventure involved in it, and also an opportunity to really be involved in things.Things got worse during the dark times--those times when Voldemort rose to power. During that time, most of the Aurors spent time thinking of a plan to undermine Voldemort's evil deeds. Lilice went away from this crowd... and whenever Lilice tells the story of her life, she always trails off at this part and changes the subject momentarily. If and when she talks about it again, she fast-forwards quite a bit...
After Voldemort vanished, Lilice found herself no longer on the job. But by that time she did have a daughter named Kiki. While Kiki grew up, Lilice occasionally wondered about where Voldemort was now. Unlike most others, she didn't hesitate at all to say his name--this made her largely unpopular. It even caused her to lose a few jobs she applied for in the years afterward. She was in a hole then, but luckily, at long last, there was the opportunity, right when Kiki received her invitation to attend Hogwarts. The answer was right in front of her: a teacher! Yes, sure enough, Dumbledore seemed to be the only one who didn't mind Lilice's saying the Dark Lord's name. The only downside was that Lilice really wanted to teach Divination as that was her favourite subject (that position was already filled by Sybil Trelawney), but she leaped at the opening in the Defense Against the Dark Arts position. She didn't care how cursed the position was, so she ended up taking it. And so we come to the present...
**Subject Taught: Defense Against the Dark Arts
Other: Lilice (and Kiki) has a black cat named Umbra. The rest will be revealed later.
* * *
Name: Kiki Adouine
Gender: Female
Year: 1
House: To be determined
Type: Technically a pureblood...
Appearance: Kiki looks younger than she really is. She's about four feet tall, and she has short, wavy blond hair in pigtails, and amber eyes that perfectly match her mother's. She normally wears a white shirt with a black cat on it, a black sweater, a short black skirt, gray stockings, and black shoes--her uniform just barely hides that when she wears it. And as if black isn't enough, her wand is also black, thin as her finger, and fifteen inches long.
Personality: Kiki likes to threaten people, but no one's ever sure whether she actually fulfills her threats. She's overall quite malevolent and even rude--she likes to spy on people and tease them if they do something bad to her. But the good thing is, she's pretty good at not getting caught. Anyways, Kiki is also emotionally sensitive, but she's good at converting her sadness into anger or frustration. (When she starts crying, she'll immediately start fussing and glaring instead.) Also, she isn't into having really close friends that much, and she can have problems standing up for her friends. But on the good side, she does try to help people out occasionally, and she doesn't ever hate someone so much that she wishes they were kissed by a dementor. In other words, she can easily forget about her frustration the next day or something.
History: There's really not much to Kiki's history--in many cases it was the same. Her parents were never really married, and she kept living between her mom (Lilice) and her dad. Kiki had a personal preference for her mother, but her father (who was also an editor for the Quibbler magazine) was a benevolent soul who gave Kiki as much tender loving care as he could offer while he was with her. Lilice, who was the speculating about Voldemort's whereabouts, often told Kiki of her past and of Voldemor's past, as well as of some of her current speculations. However, Lilice often felt that she had taught Kiki a tad bit too much... too much especially in some of the darker areas. Soon enough, Kiki developed an interest in darker happenings (and even arts in some cases). Lilice, in fact, often referred to her as "the darkness that fights on the side of light". Anyways, Kiki also had sort of a pre-education in magic (from Lilice) before she even went to Hogwarts, and she even got her wand a year early. She knew she would get that letter all along, and when it came, she felt it was proof that she was worthy of a certain quest... Speaking of quest, she felt a desire to pursue Voldemort and other dark foes further and thus planned to start a club dedicated to that...
Electives: None so far, as she's just starting school
Other: Kiki (and Lilice) has a black cat named Umbra. The rest will be revealed later.
