Has SCIII strengthened the soul of you?

All I can say is...this game is better than SCII in many ways. With the three new characters, the custom character mode (The Katana & Shruiken discipline is my favourite. In World Comptetion mode, I always choose Miser),the wonderfully designed stages (Lotus Garden and Romanian Valley-Castle Siege espically) and no Taki high-pitched screams, this game is wonderful.

Anyone else finding themselves obsessed with this game?

I guess the old SC3 thread is dead already so...yeah, this is my game. Anyone who decides to fight against my Astartoh finds themselves knocked out in 30 seconds.

Anyway, after playing the game for like a month now, I really like the new fighting system; the new stun system, the new wake-up game, the new GI system, and most of all the new moves for the characters (Talim and Ivy kinda got screwed in the arse in that regard but that just sucks for them).

As for the Create-a-characters, I only like the aspect of customizing the look of a person. I hate the gimmicky as hell movesets that the CAC are stuck with for a while. You can unlock it so that the CAC have identical movesets to the standard SC characters (which is much better).

...IIRC, Taki still screams

Yeah, but not like how she screamed in Soul Calibur 2.

One bad thing would be Cervantes's voice...I excepted a "COME WITH ME TO
HELLLLLL!!!!" like Soul Calibur 2, but this version doesn't come close.

Pity how Hwang is a bonus character...but Li Long is still alive, at least...

It has not, for I am definately not getting a PlayStation 2 version of a game that worked so much better on consoles that it's prequel worked better on.

Seriously, I'm waiting for either a GameCube or Xbox release of Soul Calibur III. SCII ran poorly on the PS2, as did other games that had multi-console releases, yet for some reason they chose to release the third one on the PS2 instead. :|

One thing is true, multi-platfrom releases tend to be weak on the PS2 when compared to GC or XBOX, but you can't say that SCIII on PS2 is low quality based on that fact. Games always turn out better if they are exclusively developed from the ground up for a specific console (for example SCIII on PS2).

How IS the create-a-player in this game anyway? SCIII has been on my mind for quite a while now...I'm not really into fighting games, but SCII seemed really...different to me...in the best way possible...

i dont have a PS2 so i can not get it. Hopefully it comes out for GameCube.
I have SC2!!

I've heard SC3 will come to Xbox 360 too soon so if people hated the PS2 verison then wait for the 360 verison.....If you have 360 that is.

Well, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'll wait it out, rather than rush and buy the game on the PS2 and then a week later find out it'll be released on another console.

SCIII's gameplay LOOKS good, but trying to work on the PS2 is its low point. Simply because the PS2's age is really starting to show up in games that require a lot of graphical attention. Even the Dreamcast can do a better job with Soul Calibur games than the PS2 due to the NAOMI system in it that helps perform a better job with arcade style games.

Above anything, I'm hoping for an arcade release. An XBOX 360 release, although a rumor, sounds ok with the potential of online play and virtually no loading times but it isn't exactly feasible when the time spent programming the game for the system can be used to develop SC4.

...and getting off the topic of the release of SC3 and back to the actual game, name your favorite character and why you chose him/her (fighting style? looks?).

Apparantly, it's they're planning on releasing a "Special Edition" for the 360.. I'd imagine it would have new characters, or something that makes it special. But yeah, it is only a rumour. I decided to hold off from buying the game right now anyway, it doesn't seem like such a leap over the previous game, and if they're going to release a better version, it will just seem like a waste. And if they don't release a 360 version, I'll just pick it up for the PS2 when it's cheap.

At least we know Soulcalibur IV will be multiplatform :)

I like the Katana and Shruiken moveset (Miser uses it). I like doing the move where you press BBK then immeddiately afterwards B. I follow THAT up with a A+B (I use the L2 for this) to deal massive damage. and the A+G throw rules.

I don't really like the Sickle moveset (used by Aurelia). It feels too slow for my liking. I do enjoy using the Chinese Blade moveset(Luna). Fast, and can be used to kill very high AI.

Main characters...I like using Xianghua and Raphael.

Xianghua is probably the most broken character of the series (although for the most part, the characters are balanced). You can just spam her >>A+B move that ducks under highs and side-steps and murder everyone.

This week is the last week of school and me and my friends are planning to bring SCIII to school and have a tournament during one of the classes we have a party in. It's kinda funny though because my teacher said we could play any game as long as it wasn't too violent or sexually suggestive so as a part of the tournament rules I'm banning the default costumes of Sophitia, Tira, Ivy, Seong-Mina, and Taki.

She was pwned for the third one though. In the second game she was ungodly fast, stupidly powerful and had broken combo's. In the third game she's much slower, weaker, has less combo's.. she even looks less attractive :p

just got the game and I have some few questions before I go into my review of the game.

First is this: Is Charade and Kreas (he a dude with a huge sword and is in a black hooded-cloak) unlockable bonus characters?

I ask this cause I played against them but lost so I can't find out, yet Games faq have not list them as unlockables(which I assume they are.) If they are, How can I unlock them?

Ok now to the review.

This game is probably the best SC series I've played.(shame Spawn not in it or not on Xbox :( )

The different modes they have are neat. I haven't played Chronicle of sword yet so I can made a decisitive critc review on that mode, but the others I will.

Tales of the Souls: This story mode defiently owns the last one and that It not as repetive and that it feels more like an adventure. I had a great feeling when playing Klilk's and Maxi's story mode since those two were best pals and went on adventures together in the first Soul Calibur. Each character interaction's and endings were neat.

The endings I enjoy was Seong Mina's, Olcadan's(It's hilarious), Yoshimitsu(again it was funny), Klilk's, and more.
What neat about the ending is that there alternate ones, like for instand: In Yoshimitsu's, If you press "A", he'll jump up spreading coin to the poor, but if not, he'll disappear leaveing the coin chest down.

Charcters: I like alot of the character. except Tira. She annoys me to no end(personality wise and design) Though the characters are great, some of the coustumes I feel were crap.

Yoshimitsu's had bad coustume(both player 1 and 2) Astoroth's second coustume was rediculous(even with color edit. It's that damn hammer on his head) I felt Raphael's coustume was...not him. I felt is first coustume makes him look like a vampire and the second one was good but the mask. Had he ditch the mask I would of like it. Cervantes' second coustumes was urgh.
So what I'm saying is, they could of but some effort when desing some of the costumes.

Now the Bounus characters, those I have to say, kick ass . Miser is neat with his shuriken+ katana ablilities. Greed is insane. He makes Taki look slow(he an old too!). Arthur not my cup of tea but at least he has a different move set compared to Mitsurugi's. Hwang......He my main man. I can see why people love him so much and wish he was one of the main cast. He move sets kick a'ss. Now you may know for those who played the game, there are three maid -like girls the work at the shop. The one that sells items has insane kicks. Just wow. NOW the chinese girl who sells weapons.......god she is a monster! Those moves and her weapons just made my mouth drop. I was like "Holy shit!!!" Can't wait to see what the third maid can do.

I just love those Bonus Characters.

the rest I'll post up later.

I'm pretty sure Charade and Kreas are not playable characters. I'm assuming the Kreas dude is the guy from Tales of Souls that you can damage but he keeps attacking like nothing happened.

The CotS mode is pretty fun. I play it mostly to unlock parts for the Create-a-character mode. It is pretty frustrating because there are loading times in between each Soul Calibur battle. Some of the battles against the computer are also frustrating and stupid too because there are a whole bunch of special match conditions that put the odds in their favor like earthquakes, poison, paralysis, the fact that they have a crap load of HP & they deal a crap load of damage to you, and the fact that the AI reads the controller input and counters your every move until you throw the controller at the screen.

The endings of Lizardman, Voldo, Yunseong, and Rock are pretty funny. Kilik has an alternate alternate ending. When the screen says A+G, press B+G instead. It isn't too different but hidden things are always interesting.

About the character designs, they're decent. Yoshimitsu's 2p costume is pretty cool...at least it's better than his 1p. Astaroth's 2p makes looks cool in battle because he's hitting you with the hammer on his head with his <B move and you're landing on the nails on his back when he does his new 80 point damage air throw. Raphael's 1p costume is freakin' awesome. His new evil look goes along with his story. His 2p is kinda bad but it looks better in the concept art. Cervantes's 2p is like a throw back to the old Soul Calibur games with the golden armor and stuff.

The bonus characters are ok. The Kick Edge is actually pretty cool. The Staff weapon is gimmicky as hell. The rest of the movesets are pretty gimmicky too. On another note, Valeria is hella hot for a video game character.

Powerage

Flannigan's Ball
If this game comes out on the 360 I'll be all over it. Especially since it'll probably come out before Dead or Alive 4 if Tecmo keeps delaying the damned thing. :(

Li Long was utterly BROKEN in Soul Edge/Soul Blade. Honestly. He was just utterly BROKEN back then. But now he doesn't seem as broken as he was back then, seeing as Nunchaku discipline has an iffy moveset (Li Long uses the CAC Nunchaku disc. moveset). >_>;; And Arthur is just a palette swap of Mitsurugi, iirc. >_>;;
