I thrashed his team with my Heracross, Suicune, and Alakazam. However I lost on my 44th battle to a Rest Talking Sheer Colding Lapras. >> I was PO'ed at that.

That happened to me about five times.

I beat him the second time the other day. Electivire critical Cross Chop Regigigas, EQ OHKOed Heatran and Garchomp 2 Swords Dance Crunch OHKOed Cresselia. I'm too afraid to go on. >_>;

I beat him again last night, with my Heracross killing Milotic, Rhyperior, and Dragonite by herself. Only 28 more tainers to go until round 2. :]

I beat him many times with my party consisting of Dragonite, Arcanine and Lapras. At times I would bring along Roserade with Choice Specs and Blaziken. Garchomp may also be used with its Outrage to defeat Palmer's Dragonite. Haven't really made it to 49 consecutive wins to take on his legendary party. Any tips for me?

Well I've just beaten the game (UK) 2 days ago and I've gone to the battle tower today. I've beaten him on my first go with ease (and a bit of luck) . Heres what happened.
Ash sent out Garchomp.
Palmer sent out Dragonite
Garchomp used Dragon Rush
Dragonite used Dragon Rush~Garchomp Fainted

Ash sent out Gengar
Gengar used Shadow Ball~Dragonite fainted
Palmer sent out Milotic
Gengar used Substitute(sp?)
Milotic used Hydro Pump~It missed
Gengar used Thungder Bolt
Milotic used Hydro Pump~Lil Gengar (the sub) Disapeared
Gengar used Thunderbolt~Milotic fainted

Palmer sent out Rhyperior(sp?)
Gengar used Shadow Ball
Rhy-thingy used Ice Beam
