We hold Pokemon tournaments once a month in Los Angeles (see signature).
Anyways, yep I have been in plenty, more than I can count.
The major ones that I have been in are (in order):
Super Trainer Showdown 1999?, Queen Mary (1st place King of the Hill TCG)
Super Trainer Showdown 2001, San Diego (11th place Anything goes Unlimited TCG)
Pokemon Rocks America 2005, San Jose (1st place big screen battler lvl 50)
Journey Across America, 2006, Los Angeles (Semi-finalist, lost to my bro)
Now the next one I will most likely be in; are the JAA Championships in NYC. As PsiUmbreon and I were one of the first 6 that won the second chance.
Also, for your question about JAA happening every year... It does not, this is the only time it has ever happened. It is a celebration of their 10th year anniversary. I highly doubt we'll get another next year, but it is likely we'll get a Pokemon Rocks America next year. We might even get nothing at all though, as I bet POA might be burned out from traveling all across the country by now. I wouldn't blame them, they made a whole lot of stops this year compared to PRA.

I never do because all people do is use ubers.
Whats the fun in that?
They are part of the game that the programmers meant for you to use at some point. However, I do agree with you that they make the gameplay dull and predictable. It is fun winning stuff because of your Ubers though ~_^. After this JAA is finished, someone should start a petition to make the next Pokemon of America event exclude all "Ubers" from tournament play.
