Maybe its a Paras or a Parasect. Check the pokedex to see if that was it.

I have that book in front of me now. Those are Paras and Parasect. They were drawn that way for the same reason Action Replay had to draw different versions of Groudon and Kyogre, to avoid lawsuits.
