lol, been a while since I've used that ^_^
If you're thinking of a plot and name, think about the plot first, then make the name.
To me, I think it's best not to take someone's idea and then develope it, because as you develope it, you don't know if you will then continue it with the same interest as you started. You can take someone's idea as an inspiration though.
If you wish a good RPG storyline, I advise you NEVER go directly along the lines of "To Save the World" or "To Become the Best!" or "You want to Beat that guy up", they do get really tedious : P (And many times it appears)
If you have Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, I think you should check it out, because to me, the storyline is a master piece, along with the characters and music. I mentioned Shadow Hearts 2 before too : )
Some stories back in the SNES were good too, you might like to think back to them. Chrono Trigger for example, I thought was above good, Terranigma if you've heard was pretty neat.
Lunar Legend wasn't bad either, just one part annoys me that fell on the top lines : P
Well let's keep this simple, since it looks like it's the first RPG you're making ; )
- From the games you have played, think about what you like about the storylines in them. What mostly addicts you to that storyline.
- Then try and come up with a plot from the ideas you liked from other storylines. Remember to tidy your ideas first : ) You can't just throw everything you like in, throw some away : )
- Now create a main character from maybe characters you like most, but make sure that fits with the story : )
- Then fill the other characters in that you may need to complete the story you have already came up with from the first two steps
- Guess at this point you can now start working on the beginning of the story : ) Then develope it.
- Once you finish the story, look back at it again, and see what things might you want to change/remove/add.
- BE AWARE that you're NOT copying other people's characters and story, because when you do this, it often happens : )
- And now, think about the music. You can always use ones that are already made : ) This is better for first RPG games, because you can focus on how to create an atmosphere out. Just put them in, listen to it, and se if it sounds right : )
- Try to AVOID using cheesy music and scenes, it can be disturbing if used wrong,
e.g. A Character holding a sword up saying "Let's Go!", then yells as he jumps of a cliff to a dungeon to save someone, that's bad. However... if
A Character sees an important character falling down, and then he dives down and as he falls, he trys and grab her hand to safe her, while the other character trys to grab his hand, eventually one of they're finger touches, then slips and falls... (Ok, let's not get too in this)
That's Good... but to me that's typical...
Anyway PM me anytime if you want me to have a look at your story : )
Lastly,
Good Luck! ^_^
