help on getting connect to Wi-Fi

I went to a hotspot with my DS, and on the start menu in Pearl, I got something that belong to the Wi-Fi connection (I think) then, I went to the GTS in order to see if it works, but not. my question is how do I make the DS connect the wi-fi, and not just in the start menu, I did something there, but what do I need to do there?
