That list is absolutely correct in the Special/Physical attack types. This shouldn't be moved to the Debate Forum, because that is in the Miscellaneous section; plus this question only has one correct answer, so there is no cause for a debate.

But, it says poison is all physical yet Sludge Bomb is a special attack I highly doubt that all of one type is either physical or special

EDIT:I mean water has physical and special attacks so it'd npt sll one type of move

Are you confusing physical/special with contact/non-contact? Within types, you can have contact and non-contact moves. For example, Waterfall is a contact special attack, Flamethrower is a non-contact special attack, Body Slam is a contact physical attack, and Rock Slide is a non-contact physical attack.

Where on earth did you read that Sludge Bomb is a Special Attack?

No, you are definitely confusing physical/special with contact/non-contact.

Physical attacks draw their power from the Pokemon's Attack stat.
Special attacks draw their power from the Pokemon's Special Attack stat.
Contact attacks involve a part of the user's body contacting their opponent's body. When this attack type is used against an opponent has the trait Rough Skin, the Pokemon who used the contact move takes recoil damage.
Non-contact attacks involve the Pokemon attacking without physically contacting its opponent.

...so it's physical (based off attack stat) but non-contact.

Perhaps it's because physical isn't actually the technical term, but it's just generally used to describe attack types based on the attack stat.

Do you have a guide book your refferring to? I have an Emerald one, and it has typos. It listed Ice puch as physical in one Pokemons Move Tutor attacks section, but not in all.

Pokemon Fire Red Help Screen said:
DEFENSE indicates the resistance a Pokemon has against physical attacks.
The higher this stat, the less damage sustained from a foe's physical hit.

SP. DEF (Special Defense) indicates the resistance a Pokemon has against special attacks.
The higher this stat, the less damage sustained from a foe's special attack.
I didn't use the ATTACK or SP. ATK screens because it described ATTACK moves as "offensive" and I thought that was a bit vague. Now, you can't get a lot more official than that, can you?

Lol, no, Jirachi_Reborn. The Official Guide Book has many mistakes in it, I have on for myself. For instance, in the Emerald one, Treecko, Grovyle, and Sceptile's Thunderpunch is supposedly a Physical attack! =) OH NOEZ!!

Anyways, it's a simple mistake. Sludge Bomb is a Physical attack.

I still say that the element punches are physical

...well, you would be wrong.

Look, there's PHYSICAL, which runs off the attack stat (although weird things like Ghost and Poison are run off them too...don't ask) and SPECIAL (obviously special attack stat).

Then there's CONTACT. It may be related to physical, but not in this game, contact is a move in which your Pokemon comes into connection with another. NON-CONTACT is not always special (like Sludge Bomb) and is when an attack strikes your opponent without your Pokemon coming into contact with them.

There's no other alternative, so there's no need to argue.

Lol, my guide book says that Fighting is Super Effective against Water :D
I still say that the element punches are physical
They're not physical, they're special.
Physical/Special rely on Atk/Sp Atk stat.

Contact/Non-contact relies on if the user touches the other Pokemon.
Contact/Non-contact is for abilities such as Rough Skin, which hurts the foe if it has used a CONTACT move.

A move can be Contact and still be Special; a move can be non-contact and still be physical; and so on.

I hope that helped.

Well, Sludge bomb is Physical because you can't Mirror Coat it.
And Elemental Punches are special because you can't Counter it. ( whew, if it's physical then I should throw away my Alakazam )
Remember, Physical/Special is different with Contact/non-contact.

If the elemental punches were to be fighting type then they'll be physical but they're not, they are fire(special), ice(special) and electric(special), though they are all contact hence they need to punch the foe.

Which game is this. Poison was special back in the days of Red and Blue. In GSC and the Advance generation poison is physical.

Poison was special in RBY? Are you sure?

But yes, the type corresponds to whether it's physical or not, not the move itself or the contact. That list you posted in the first post is correct.
