To be honest, if you started LGorFR with Charmander and then acquired a Dratini(Modest), they can help in their final forms.....helped me. Train in one island(the karate guys with the VS Seeker) unless you want EV's. Anyway, it's your decision and I respect that. Be yourself and whatever you do will always turn for the best.

you should most of all have a good balance of different types! as long as you train your pokemon with care its up to you what to choose! any pokemon can become really strong with good moves and evs!
