Hi to you all!

I need some help with this, as it confuses me like hell.

So, what are the limits? Well for starters, you can only gain 510 Effort Values before they will stop being counted. 510 can be called our "Overall Maximum", if you want a technical term. So this brings the Effort Points you can gain to 64, once again as a maximum. But this is still a bit much to add to any one stat, and it would make any Mewtwo have an absurd amount of Special Attack still, or Blissey still having that huge potential to go over 700 Hit Points (not like you still can't get there.) So, to make it limited still, there can only be a maximum of 255 Effort Points per stat, giving a pokemon a potential 32 point increase in any stat.

So, to state the facts:

- You can get 510 EV in total.

I suppose the Effort Points right after should say Stat Points right?

If you gain 4 effort points, you gain 1 stat point, as stated several times.
Then at the end, it says a Pokemon can ultimately get 32 added points to 1 stat. But as the maximum EV to be added to 1 stat 255? And 252:4 = 63, isn't it?

An on another note, say you got a Misdreavus with Pokerus and a Fearow with Pokerus. Both are untrained and don't have any EV yet. Now in a battle against Tentacool (that gives you 1 Special Defense point), you send out Misdreavus first, then immediately switch to Fearow and defeat the pokemon.

The Question: Now how many EV's are both Pokemon supposed to get in this situation?

Could someone please help me on these matters? I really want to EV-train my Pokemon but I won't be able to if I don't know how. Props to anyone who would take their time to enlighten me. ^_^

I'm not sure what you're asking for the first question.

I dunno what the writer was talking about with the 32 thing; you can add 63.

Both Pokemon get 1. EV's are never split. Also, if a Pokemon is holding EXP Share, it gets the EV's.

As for the question, I don't understand why the author says 32 stat points.

The second question - both Pokemon get the 1 EV.

For the first question, yes, "Effort Points" there should be "Stat Points."

For the second question, that is a mistake on the author's part; you're right that a Pokemon can ultimately get a maximum of 63 stat points added to one stat.

For the third question, both Misdreavus and Fearow get two EV's in Sp. Def. They would normally both only get one each, but the PokeRus doubles the EV's gained, so they both get two.

But since the discussion's going on here, I have another question after reading the EV part of that topic.

I actually did the Misdreavus and Fearow thing, which is why I used it as an example.

So, I went training my lvl 1 Misdreavus using my lvl 51 Fearow to switch to. Both had Pokerus, which would indeed mean they would recieve 2 special def. EV's evertime I defeated a Tentacool. I constantly sent out Misdreavus first, then switched to Fearow and defeat it. I counted an eventually I had defeated 39 tentacools, when my Fearow (who never had any EV, so he also fully recieved the 2 EV every time) leveled up and gained Special Defense + 12 (including the normal increase of +1,+2 or +3).

So I calculated: 39 tentacool x 2 EV = 78 EV = 19 stat points

Shouldn't the Fearow have gotten that amount of stat points immediately.

Then I read the EV part of the guide Icosahedron linked me to, and saw that EV are not always immediately all put into the stat with 1 level up. BUT...it also says with Pokemon around lvl 50 it SHOULD increase by the right amount.

What's happening? x_X

How did you get a lv 1 Misdreavus?

And, Fearow won't get all stat gains from the EVs at once. The next levels will also yield a bigger stat gain than average.

I got a lvl 1 Misdreavus by breeding. Diamond and Pearl feature.
