Hikari's appeals don't sound too interesting

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
So. Hikari. You know her, right? The girl with the short skirt who is going to be performing as a coordinator, yep? Good.

In any case, she has a Poochama and will soon be catching a Mimirol. We've seen Pochama attempt to do Bubble appeals, which is the same thing we saw May's Squirtle do a number of times in BF.

Zhen Lin on BMG just confirmed that Hikari's Mimirol knows Ice beam. Yep, Ice beam. And this is before Hikari even catches the thing. May's Squirtle, ring a bell?

So we have Pochama doing Bubble appeals and Mimirol doing appeals with Ice beam, is anyone else finding this depressing? The fact that Squirtle did both these appeals in BF for like 4 Contests was bad enough, but now Hikari's two Pokemon being nothing but a remix of May's Squirtle sounds even worse.

It's at this point where you really wonder if the writers are even trying with Hikari anymore. Do the Contest judges ever get bored of Ice appeals? Do we really need to see Hikari's two Pokemon doing the same type of appeals May's Squirtle did?

Thoughts?

OMG it has the same attacks it must be the same!!1

Yeah, ok!
Considering we got our fill of Bubble and Ice beam appeals in the Battle Frontier saga, it's a shame the writers are just redoing the same type of water/ice appeals with Hikari.

Did the bunny really need Ice beam? Honestly, out of all the attacks they could have given it, why give it the same one that everyone complained about May's Squirtle had? I'm sure other TM moves would have been much more interesting than more goddamn Ice appeals.

M-m-m-m-onobear?!
Who knows, the writers could do something WHOAMG DIFFERENT with the same attack. And they never WERE known for attack variety. Flamethrower, Iron Tail, Water Gun, Generic Electrical Attacks, Water Gun, Vine Whip, Water Gun, Tackle, Flamethrower, GENERIC BEAM ATTACK, GENERIC PROJECTILE ATTACK, and so on. Really, I've seen different moves look almost the same so often that there's not much of a point in using a variety of moves in the anime. >> Generic Glowing Appendage attacks in particular are all too common, along with said Generic Beam Attacks and Generic Projectice Attacks, along with the odd Generic Contact Move With No Glowing Involved.

If you're not sick of seeing the same few moves(or what might as WELL be the same few moves) over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over by now, chances are that you'll live through a few more moves that we've seen over and over and over.

The problem is these are Contests where appeals need to be differentiated to remain interesting.

Squirtle did a mix of Bubble and Ice beam appeals in Battle Frontier. Although it was fine, it was a tad repetitive to see May do so many similar appeals with the same Pokemon.

Pochama will be using Bubble as its primary appeal, (see: May's Squirtle), and Mimori has Ice beam at least, (see: May's Squirtle), how many different ice sculptures can they possibly make?

Where is Yamato-San when you need him?

Is there anything you DON'T complain about invovling Hikari and the contest?

I wanted Shaymin! :(

But you missed one flaw, Cyber...Hikari can't use them both in appeals, you can only appeal with one Pokemon. So, there is no way Hikari will pull off the same stunts May did with Squirtle(which I admit, I really loved).

And everyone is upset because Ice Beam is lame. Well, guys, I happen to like it. Ice Beam is the best ice attack to use in the game because it's the most powerful ice attack that is 100% accurate. Blizzard would rock if it had at least 90% accuracy like it did in the classic games.

Anyways, I'm sure Mimiroru and Pochama will have other attacks too, so don't worry about it until the first contest.

Pokemon itself is repititive, yet you seem to be alright with AG for some strange reason.

Contests were brand new in AG.

In D/P they aren't, which is why it sucks that they're leaving out the dancing and dress-up, which really could have made Hikari's Contests seem different. The fact that she's using primarily water and ice based appeals don't help matters.

Contests in the anime are gym battles with a time limit and an appeal. Really nothing new.
