Ho-oh with skyattack?

Would you guys recommend teaching ho-oh Skyattack? I was thinking about it but not sure if its a good idea or not. See Skyattack gets STAB and it does 140 damage + 70 for stab= 210 damage and 30% chance to flitch so that beats earthquake by 10 damage if used twice and earthquake has no effect. Then again Ho-oh takes 2 turns to use it so if your low in hp and need to recover you may not get the chance I guess. Also Ho-oh doesn't have the best speed so flitching won't do the best if he doesn't attack first. Anyway you can see my predictament so whats your views on this?

don't use sky attack. it leaves you open for a turn before doing anything, and is barely stronger than using aerial ace twice. any half-decent opponent would switch out something that resists it, making it pretty much useless.

I'm assuming that it learns it through the move tutor in XD?

Lmao, i didn't even know that ho-oh could learn sky attack.
but, yea, i'd teach it sky attack, even with the turn advantage your opponent would get. (I mean, anything with 210 base damage must be able to a decent amount of damage to any pokemon in its way, right?)

From a lore point of view, it's the perfect move for a phoenix Pokemon.
But technically, It can't learn it, and Ho-oh's Sp. Attack is better, anyway.

there is an XD Move Tutor that teaches sky attack. i haven't tried it, but i assume that Ho-oh can learn it from there.

It can't, Ho-oh can't learn any of the moves with the tutor, otherwise it would be in the Pokedex and Attackdex entries.

^ever thought that it's not listed in the attackdex entries because no-one has been able to figure out who learns them?

there are three move tutor attacks that are exclusive to XD.

Sky Attack, Self-destruct and Nightmare.

However, no one has any list of who learns these attacks because it's very difficult to transfer 386 legal created (not created by a cheating device) pokemon into XD and see who learns what.

but Ho-oh can learn Sky attack by this method.

Mewtwo and Snorlax can also learn self-destruct if anyone's interested ;)

Yes Ho-oh learns it by the move tutor in XD I didn't make this topic on garbage. Also theres a whole walkthrough on gamespot on XD move tutor for all the pokemon and which ones can learn what.

You did the STAB incorrectly. Ho-oh has TWO types (Fire/Flying) so the STAB is only 1.25x the Base Power, not 1.5x like it is for Pokemon with ONE type. Including the CORRECT STAB, Sky Attack's strength is 175. That's pretty strong, but Ho-oh's Attack needs help. Additionally, it doesn't cover any of Ho-oh's weaknesses, but Earthquake covers all of them (Electric, 4x Rock). So don't teach it Sky Attack, teach it Earthquake instead.

more like you did the STAb incorrectly, STAB is still base power multiplied by 1.5 even if the pokemon is a dual type.

so sky attack's power would be 210

The only reason I ever wanted to teach Ho-Oh Sky Attack is because of the simply fact that, well...the legendary Phoenix should have this move. Nevertheless, I have tested it already and it looks like crap compared to how amazing it looked back in the Stadium games.

No. Don't teach it. Anyone with a brain will switch to something resistant on the delay turn.

You know, i seriously think that the thread starter should just make his own decision. (my opinion) Sure, Sky Attack just fits Ho-oh briliantly because its a kind of attack that a phoenix should have but on the other hand the move sucks. I'm sort of the battler so i wouldn't pick that move.
