Hoenn Frontier: The Beginning.Sign Ups (PG 13)

Flintlock

Watch Glass
Name: Jonathan 'Templar' Saint
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Hometown: Fuchsia City
-Appearance-
Eye colour: Brown
Hair: Brown, almost beetles-like. Covers his eyes slightly.
Clothing: Templar isn't exactly a fashionista. He wears a pair of long black pants made of relatively thin cloth. He also wears a plain white t-shirt. His most prized piece of clothing is his black fedora. Not for any sentimental reason; he just likes the way it looks (though if he becomes a Frontier Brain, he'll change clothing to something more Nautical).
Accessories/Other: Templar is very pale skinned, a little on the tall side and has a pretty average build. He is, however, deceptively strong. He also wears an old watch with a black band and brass face/hands. Similarly to his Fedora, has no sentimental value. It's just a useful watch.

-Additional Info-
Personality: Templar nearly always gives the impression that he needs more sleep (He probably does). He has slow reflexes and often mishears others. He's a master of being blunt and inadvertently saying rather stupid things. However, underneath his tired exterior, he's very intelligent (though this intelligence is often blurred by lack of sleep). Somehow, he's impatient and slow to act at the same time; whilst his first actions are often laid-back, he gets very annoyed if he's forced to wait for someone because they made mistakes (he'll always wait for them if they're simply slow, as he hates being hypocritical). He's vaguely pessimistic and, when he can be bothered, tries to prepare for the worst, rarely celebrating a victory beforehand. He does, however, have a rather well developed sense of humour, when he spots a joke (which can be quite quickly in comparison with others if it’s a complicated joke).

Templar has a refined knowledge of how ships work as well as how pokémon battle. Because of the latter he's able to think up intelligent strategies based around how a Pokémon’s attacks will pan out and how they'll react to commands/opponent's actions. However, he dislikes playing the psychological game of 'Will I do this, will I do that' as he feels it ends up forcing him to flip a coin. He tries to go easy on his pokemon when it comes to training, due to the effects of really hard training had on Athlete.

Likes: Soft pillows, sailing, straightforward situations and trustworthy food. Also on occasion, singing (he has a very nice voice).
Dislikes: Repeating himself, prolonged physical exertion, psychological warfare and boiled green vegetables.

History: Templar grew up in Fuchsia with his parents. His father was an author, already retired to work on his Yacht, whilst his mother was a housewife who shared the passion for sailing. About half of Templar's life before the age was spent on a ship. Life for him was really easy; despite giving a little help on the boat, most of the work was done by his father throughout his time at home. School was pretty breezy; compared with most of the class, Templar (who was mostly known as Johnny back then) was very much a different person to his permanently tired current persona. He was bright, astute and enjoyed school. On his 10th birthday, he went out and got his pokémon license, taking Skizzes as his first pokémon. He began his journey soon afterwards.
Very quickly on his journey, he met up with a girl named Amelia, who would be his travelling partner and rival for the next three years. She was the first one to call him ‘Templar’ (due to the old show called ‘The Saint’, whose main character was John Templar). Their personalities were quite similar; enthusiastic and into pokémon. Over time however, a stark difference was brought to light. Templar was an intelligent battler and managed to beat gyms quite easily (with a little help from Skizzes, who was much more powerful than the average pokémon). Amelia, however, was a horrible battler and not only took a long time to learn new strategies, but hated the idea of ordering her pokémon to hurt others’. As a result, Templar was held back whilst he helped her train. Both spent long hours training, but Templar also needed to train his pokémon and often trained through the night. These sessions chipped through his psyche, yet managed to become a habit. Even after the two trainers parted, Templar has never recovered.
12 years later, Templar has made a name for himself (that name being Templar) whilst his initial partner faded away, collecting 32 badges and competing in all 4 four leagues, as well as taking a few years off to complete high school. He’s still tired.

-Pokemon-
Starter Pokémon: Skizzes (Scyther -> Scizor)
Moves: Bullet Punch, X-Scissor, Superpower, Pursuit, Swords Dance, Agility, Iron Head, Taunt
History: Skizzes was found as an egg near the safari zone by Templar’s parents well before he started his journey. It hatched when Templar was about 8. Having a Scyther around the house, even a baby one was rather dangerous, but Skizzes was house trained to act respectfully and safely around humans. When they started off their journey, Skizzes was much too powerful for other trainers to handle; it was a Scyther again small fry such as Ratatta. Skizzes evolved when Amelia requested battle where the teams were swapped; as she believed one of the big reasons Templar kept winning was he had powerful pokémon. Skizzes has soloed a total of four gyms (Erika [only gym as scyther], Roxanne, Roark and Gardenia).
Personality: Skizzes is incredibly loyal to Templar. Unfortunately, he's very hot-headed, and if his trainer's honour is apparently in the balance, Skizzes is far too quick to take up the challenge, often misunderstanding a situation and causing a fight. Funnily enough, Skizzes can also be rather emotional, even crying or becoming estatic when the situation is appropriate (or even if its not completely). Skizzes also loves lemon flavoured candy (though it will not pacify him).

Pokémon: Toby (Slowpoke -> Slowbro)
Moves: Psychic, Surf, Ice beam, Grass Knot, Light Screen, Slack off, Thunder Wave, Calm Mind
History: Templar named Toby after a particularly similar looking classmate of his. He found Toby a short while after he started his journey; as he was walking along to coast, Toby was fishing. Templar caught Toby with a single pokeball. It was many moons later before Toby accidently caught a shelder on its tail and evolved, though it hasn't really noticed, even attempting to fish using the shellfish on occasion.
Personality: Like most Slowbro, Toby is generally dull and even unreactive at times. However, he will occassionally achieve incredibly quick reflexes due to the shelder on its tail biting down.

Pokémon: Whimsy (Aerodactyl)
Moves: Stealth Rocks, Taunt, Stone Edge, Earthquake, Aerial Ace, Crunch, Tailwind, Whirlwind
History: There was a long gap between Toby and Whimsy; Whimsy's Old Amber was given to Templar by his father on Cinnabar Island and revived about an hour later. Whilst Templar and Whimsy didn't exactly get off on the right foot, Templar eventually managed to gain Whimsy's grudging respect (though he'll never admit it).
Personality: Whimsy is very agressive and prideful; it views any emotion besides agression/anger as weakness (though much less than when it was first revive). On multiple occassions, it has challenged its main rival, Skizzes to battles (never having won a match). On occasion, Whimsy has gone out of character and joined Skizzes in a bout of crying or laughter.

Pokémon: Prayer (Swinub -> Piloswine -> Mamoswine)
Moves: Ice Shard, Earthquake, Ice Fang, Stone Edge, Light Screen, Reflect, Superpower, Blizzard
History: Prayer was caught in Ice path, evolved during the battle against Clair and once again after he had a move tutor teach Prayer Ancient Power. Prayer is one of the big reasons that Templar became arrogant. With encouragement from Templar, Prayer turned from an apparent wimp into an incredibly powerful pokemon
Personality: Prayer is easy going. It often is found dozing whilst its allies train. Despite this, it gets along with just about any pokemon it meets, including its allies.

Pokémon: Hades (Duskull -> Dusclops -> Dusknoir)
Moves: Will-o-Wisp, Shadow Sneak, Pain Split, Brick Break, Pursuit, Shadow Punch, Protect, Rest
History: Unlike the rest of his team, Hades did not originally belong to Templar; it belonged to his team mate and part time rival, Amelia. They first met during the team wide swap the two made (which caused Skizzes to evolve) at a tournament. When the two teams parted, Templar swapped his Shedinja for Hades, as one final memento (causing the, then Dusclops, to evolve).
Personality: Hades is rather cold, rarely showing any sort of emotion. It follows orders to the letter, often not understanding more complex metaphors/references (e.g. Templar: Hit the pikachu out of the park - Hades: ? - Templar: ... Use shadow punch so as to cause the opponent to fly out of the arena...)

Pokémon: Athlete (Shroomish -> Breloom)
Moves: Spore, Seed Bomb, Sky Uppercut, Stone Edge, Bulk Up, Leech Seed, Substitute, Mach Punch
History: Athlete was caught in Petalburg Woods. It evolved during the match between Templar and Juan. Templar's treatment of Athlete is probably his greatest shame; he caught her at a point where he was beginning to arrogant in his methods. Multiple times, he forced Athlete to fight when she was far too tired or made her fight battles she had no way of winning, to give her experience. During her tenure as one of Templar's pokemon, Athlete has tried run away thrice. The first two times, Templar had Whimsy track and find her; possibly not the best idea. The final time was on a return trip through Petalburg wood before battling Norman and he went after her personally after her feelings were conveyed by expert miming by Skizzes. Templar has been trying to make it up to her for a long time. Athlete is the last pokemon Templar caught.
Personality: Athlete is shy and easily frightened, although has a competitive streak that comes out on occasion. She does not get on with most of Templar's pokemon and still doesn't trust Templar himself.

Reserves: Houndoom (Baskerville), Electabuzz (Streamline), Tauros (Constellation), Ninjask (Flash)

Not Giving a Crap
Sorry for the long wait, but things just keep getting in the way.

Name: Antonio ‘Tony’ Meran
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Hometown: Pyrite Town, Orre

-Appearance-

Eye color: Hazel

Hair: Short, Jet Black hair that comes down to the tips of his ears, and bangs that cover his forehead

Clothing: A plain orange T-shirt and cargo shorts, and when it gets cold he throws on a pair of black wind pants and his dark blue hoody.

Accessories/Other:
He has many scars on his torso due to his encounter with Raichu. He also has a Cubs hat that he wears backwards atop his head, and a pair of sunglasses on top of that. Tony is roughly 6’ 5”, meaning he easily towers over his competition, and weighs roughly 190 lbs.

-Additional Info-

Personality: Tony’s personality can be summed up in one word, loner. He relies on no one and gets help from no one. This is mainly because he believes that he is superior to everyone, both in smarts and training ability. This leads to his hugely over-inflated ego. Even though Tony is a loner, he has strong relationships with his pokemon. Besides being a loner, Tony has always had a short temper. He will get in a fight over almost anything, and once he has started there is no way to stop him. He mainly uses his pokemon in battles, but sometimes (if you really PO him) he will resort to hand to hand combat. Tony also has a pride problem. If anyone comes even remotely close to having a higher skill level then him (in his own eyes), he goes buck wild on them. However, if Tony had a single good quality to be heard off, it is his dedication. If Tony says he is going to do something, then he will stop at nothing to do it. Even though this is a respectable trait, Tony has gotten into more trouble then you can shake a stick at well trying to complete his goals.

Likes: Battling, Video Games, Going to the Beach, Soccer, Food, Winning, Fire Type Pokemon

Dislikes: Idiots, Happy People, Losing, Water Type Pokemon

History:
During his childhood, Tony and his family had almost no money, and therefore lived in a house on the outskirts of Pyrite, isolated from the rest of the city. Tony’s mother died when he was ten. Before Tony cut himself off from mankind, he and his mother were very close, and Tony was permanently changed by his mothers death. He never got close to anyone after that, and he became the loner he is now.

His mother’s death also had an effect on his father, who after that was always drunk. He beat up Tony all the time. Tony hated his father and couldn’t what tell he could get away from him. One day he got his wish. On his way back home from the bar, Tony’s dad was attacked by a Raichu on the front lawn. By the time Tony got out to his father he was already dead. Even though Tony hated his father, he still felt horrible. He had both of his parents taken away from him, and he wasn’t going to stand for it. Tony was 13, and therefore had his own pokemon, a Houndour, nicknamed Devon, from the Johto region. He called upon it to fight the Raichu.

After a fierce battle, Devon was thrown against the side of the house, weakened and obviously in pain. The Raichu then closed in on Tony, and backed him into a corner. The Raichu attacked, and slashed Tony’s chest, leaving him with scar marks. It was then that Devon realized the danger his master was in. He knew he wasn’t going to be able to take on this beast of a pokemon in his current state. So, Devon got his adrenaline pumping and got ready to fight. The adrenaline pumped and pumped, and soon enough Devon started glowing. Devon change shape and grew bigger, evolving into a Houndoom.

The newly evolved Devon ran between his master and the Raichu. The two pokemon began a fierce battle, and when the smoke cleared, Devon was victorious, and the Raichu was knocked out. “Wow, nice job, Devon. I’ll take it from here.” So Tony pull a poke ball off his belt and threw it at the Raichu. It hit, bounced off, and opened. In a flash of red light, the Raichu disappeared in the ball. It hit the ground and shook side-to-side three times before a ‘ding!’ was heard. The Raichu was captured, and Tony swore that he would work it so hard it would wish it had never come and killed his father that fateful night. Tony buried his father’s body and, even though he was a horrible father, Tony still cried at his loss.

The next morning, Tony packed up all of his things. He knew that as soon as word got around of his father’s death Social Services would be knocking on his front door. So Tony decided to set out to the Hoenn region, a place of untamed wilderness were he could hide well Social Services tried to find him. He hope on his bike, and headed to Gateon Port, never looking back.

Tony traveled around the Hoenn region, honing his trading skills and collect gym badges. Within four years, he had won every gym badge in the Hoenn region. However, Tony did not take on Hoenn’s tournament, do to this event being public televised, and he sill was not of legal age to be living by himself. So, after Hoenn, Tony went to Slateport and got on a boat head for the Kanto region. He had all of Kanto’s badges within three years and, now of legal age, he entered the tournament. He came in the top 16 before being defeated.

Afterwards, he traveled to the Johto region, and within a year he had all of their badges and was competing in the tournament. He got into the top 4. Tony then returned to the Hoenn region, and at the age of 22 he was finally going to take on Hoenn’s tournament. He came in second, losing a close battle. Just as the trophy was about to be presented, the presenter got a message. It said that the winner had cheated! Needless to say, he was disqualified and Tony was given the Tony, and he was offered a spot in the Elite Four. He, however, turned it down, saying he still wanted to travel and train. So now Tony is traveling across the Hoenn region, powering up his pokemon.

-Pokemon-

Starter Pokémon: Devon (Houndour -> Houndoom)
Moves: Heat Wave, Thunder Fang, Flamethrower, Crunch, Nasty Plot, Shadow Ball, Sunny Day, Solarbeam
History: Devon was Tony’s first pokemon, given to him for his tenth birthday, shortly before Tony’s mother died. Devon helped Tony through this death, and protected Tony from his drunk father. Devon evolved into a Houndoom well fighting the Raichu that killed Tony’s father. After Tony left Orre, Devon helped him win many battles and catch many pokemon.
Personality: Devon was a kind-hearted Houndour. When he evolved, however, he devolved somewhat of an anger issue. He still care deeply for his master, and protects him whenever his master is in trouble.

Pokémon: Sparky (Raichu)
Moves: Thunderbolt, Iron Tail, Dig, Brick Break, Magnet Rise, Nasty Plot, Slam, Thunderpunch
History: Tony got Raichu at the age of 13, after it killed his father. Tony swore to make in pay for its crimes, and put in through much painful training. After Tony felt the Raichu had paid, he became a main member of Tony’s team.
Personality: Its generally takes the personality of its trainer. So, with Tony training it, it takes on the personality of an loner with anger management issues. However, all Raichu have a strength sense of caring for their owners, and Sparky be no different. All in all, Raichu is a caring friend who always know how its trainer is feeling.

Pokémon: Mega (Chikorita -> Bayleef -> Meganium)

Moves: Body Slam, Solarbeam, Synthesis, Toxic, Sunny Day, Giga Drain, Earthquake, Frenzy Plant
History: Mega was given to Tony as a prize for coming in the top 4 of the Johto tournament, which Cyndaquil and Totodile going to 3rd and 2nd place. Mega evolved into a Bayleef during the second battle of the Hoenn tournament, where he single-handedly won the battle against 3 opponents. After the tournament, Tony and Mega went to the desert to find the famous Mirage Tower. Inside the tower, Mega feel through a hole in the floor, and was immediately surrounded by wild pokemon. They attacked, and soon Mega was on the edge of conscience. He then heard a cry from his trainer, and opened his eyes to see Tony standing between the pokemon and Mega. The wild pokemon went buck wild on Tony, and threw him across the room. Mega was ticked. No one treated his master like that. So he got his adrenaline pumping and evolved, into a Meganium. Soon, all of the wild pokemon were knocked out. Mega picked up his trainer with his vines and placed him on his back. Once Mega had safely escaped the tower, he ran to the closest pokemon center, and after what seem like forever, Tony made a full recovery. Now Mega is Tony’s main source of ground transportation, and helps him in battles around Hoenn.
Personality: Mega’s personality is the exact opposite of Devon’s. He was a very angry Chikorita, but when he evolved, he devolved a deep relationship with his master. Even though he will go inside his poke ball if Tony orders him to do so, he prefers to be outside on sunshine filled days, and has even been known to pop out of his ball to soak up some rays. Mega battles like a beast, but only in friendly competition and when he is need to protect something. In other words, if he believes that a conflict can be solved without violence, he will try to do so.

Pokémon: Pidgeot (Pidgeotto -> Pidgeot)

Moves: Air Slash, Roost, Aerial Ace, Steel Wing, Fly, Heat Wave, Sky Attack, Faint Attack
History: Tony caught Pidgeotto during his travels in the Kanto region. He evolved into a Pidgeot during Tony final battle in the Kanto tournament, and although he fought bravely, Pidgeot lost against the opponent’s Electabuzz. Pidgeot is Tony’s main source of flight.
Personality: Pidgeot is one tough customer. He prefers to go ‘buck wild’ on enemies, and therefore like close combat moves than just sitting back and flapping wind. Pidgeot gets along well with Tony, and tries very hard to please him. Pidgeot often lands short of his goals, but never gets down, he just keeps on trying. In short, Pidgeot is a optimistic perfectionist.

Pokémon: Golduck (Golduck)

Moves: Zen Headbutt, Hydro Pump, Water Pulse, Calm Mind, Ice Beam, Iron Tail, Dig, Surf
History: Tony was Traveling in the Seafoam Islands when he meet Golduck. Using his phyic powers, Golduck could tell Tony meet no harm, and was just lost in the caves underneath the water. Golduck decided to help Tony, and lead him to the surface. Once they reached the surface, a gang of wild pokemon jumped out and started attacking Golduck. Tony could not let this happen, and ordered Sparky to dispense of the pokemon with a Thunderbolt. Needless to say, the pokemon scattered. After seeing Tony’s bravery, Golduck came with him on his travels.
Personality: Golduck has a very protective nature, and not just of his master, he protect all pokemon and people. When he lived in the islands, he took it upon himself to protect Articuno, the legendary pokemon that lived in the depths of the caves. He is always the decoy, and has no problem with do so if it is for a good cause. He hold his friends very close, and would do anything for them, even if it means being the one that is left behind.

Pokémon: Charlie (Charizard)
Moves: Air Slash, Slash, Flamethrower, Heat Wave, Iron Tail, Earthquake, Roost, Thunderpunch
History: Charlie was given to Tony as a prize for beating Green Oak, the grandson of the famous professor. Charlie was real friendly with Tony, but after numerous times of Tony standing up for Charlie, he learned to trust and even respect Tony.
Personality: Charlie is Tony’s go-to guy. He is by far Tony’s most used pokemon, and probably his best friend. Charlie has no fear, and battles like a crazy manic, acting like his opponents attacks just bounce off. He will no run from any battle, and will fight tio the death if need be. He is also very respectful of Tony, after seeing is bravery, which remind Charlie of his own.
