how do i record on my own computer?

Knowing your operating system would be helpful as well. I'll assume you are using a version of Windows, shall I?..
For audio recording and editing, you can try using Audacity. Or, for audio and video recording, then try Camstudio.

If neither of the above are what you are looking for, then you might want to add a little more detail to your question.

^no...
Video recording... but it records the music/ sound in the computer and not from outer source like the microphone.

I have Vista...

Camstudio can do that. When running this application, open the Options menu and make sure Record audio from microphone is toggled on. Then select Audio Options -> Audio Options for Microphone and choose Stereo Mix under Audio Capture Device. This will enable recording sound from the computer rather than an external source.

If you cannot see Stereo Mix, then it may be disabled. Go to Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Sound, and select the Recording tab. Then right-click on Stereo Mix and select Enable (if you cannot see it, then try right-clicking in the Sound window and check Show Disabled Devices).

If you want to record something on your computer and use the microphone at the same time i reccomend HyperCam2. If you dont want to use a mic you can just record stuff on you computer with Hypercam too.
