Barry is always in a rush. He must have pre-ordered it and two colors were available after release. There was therefore only one orange model. If it was painted though, I wouldn't like to see his Game Boy.

Does everyone in the world have watches which are one of two colours? He ordered an orange one when he went to buy his Poketch. Or perhaps Nintendo Event o.0 which'll come to this world much later because Pokemon gets everything first :p

His is most likely customized. I'm sure certain trainers can get a special limited edition Poketch in some sort of promotional givaway.

I'm thinking it was a prototype. Also, the game developers are very style consious, and a blue Poketch would stick out like a sore thumb.
