We know. All we're trying to suggest is ways that the games could be improved without getting rid of the central theme, a blue hedgehog that's really freaking fast. Killing most of the cast might sound a bit harsh, but it's not too far off the mark. Sonic has the worst cast of characters since FFVIII.
In fact, let's make a game out of this. I will never complain about the Sonic franchise ever again if someone can name every character in the Sonic multiverse in under 10 minutes. I'm dead serious. The clock starts from the time this is posted.
Not to mention Sega can't seem to deal with issues as basic as the name of Sonic's home planet.
If you haven't figured out by now, I have more than a few rage issues with some of the Final Fantasy games. And to think, it didn't really get bad until FFX... I shudder to think of what FFXIII is going to be like...

Pretty sure that as far as Japan was concerned, there never were any such issues and it was the American and/or European materials that started such inconsistencies.

You were the closest. I have to give you props for that. But you're missing some (such as Antoine; sorry he's not exactly a minor character).
But that's my point. Nobody can do it, because there are so many characters that unless you have a guide, you'll never remember who they all are. It's ridiculous.
