How do your parents feel about manga?

My father never cared about my anime/manga hobby at all.

My mother, however, has always had a problem with it. Because I'm a girl, she feels that comics are not suitable for me. Plus, she thinks I'm too old for them... Yeah, she considers them 'cartoons'. Though, this one time, she freaked out at me watching this one Hellsing episode because of all the blood. XD;; I guess it also doesn't help that she's religious.

It's all moot nowadays, since I'm over eighteen and on my own.

My mother is the parent that has the most problems with it out of the two. Once, while we were driving downtown (to Borders, in fact) she suddenly began a lecture on how she fears manga/anime is affecting my life, and how it is "innapropriate."

Although I have explained to her on numerous occasions how manga/anime is different than cartoons/comics, she still complains at times.

In the end, she's fine with it, though. At times, she has even expressed mild curiousity (in a positive way.) My dad, however, is confused by the format.

Ah, what naive parents. =3

I don't exactly recieve a weekly allowance with money, per se, but at the end of every week my mom takes me to the city for shopping. This is how I obtain most of my manga.

One day, we were in line, and I had two volumes that I wanted to purchase. My mom took them from me, and at times she looks at the volumes while standing in line. Not really flipping through them, but sometimes she reads the back cover. Now, my mom had never had any problems with buying me manga based on ratings. They could be T+, or M, she wouldn't have a problem with it. But that day, she happened to notice the Explicit Content label on the cover of one volume, and asked me to put it back. In the end, I did get it because I basically began explaining to her about the volume in line, and how the content wasn't really THAT explicit. XP

A few times, my mom has sworn to stop buying me manga because she doesn't consider them "books," but I found that this is a vague threat and never happens.

She has also given me a few speeches on the mature nature of manga, and how she worries it affects me. XD But this is probably common.

Anyways, what do your parents think of manga?

lol.... I just gett them @ The public libray. They think there to easy for me since there not really Books.

I can't bear to get them at the library. I have this part of me that says: "YOU MUST BUY THEM OR DIE," and I go by that. I also do not like waiting for the volumes that I need to come in so that I may check them out.

My library doesn't have that large of a collection, so I find it easier to purchase the series I need.

I think they are glad I actually spend my money on something other then art commissions, so they don't really complain if I do buy manga.

Though, when I was watching DBZ before, my dad thought Cell's nose was a carrot. So yeah |D I keep my parents far from the anime genre. They aren't too interested in my manga or anime that much anyway, it's too "childish" for them.

SOS! Its Not Healthy..

He Say Whaaa...
About that, my parents could care less, and I like it better that way. And plus they don't really understand English much which really turns them off, now if these manga was in Spanish, they probably noticed. But as of now, they don't give a crap.

My mum is the one who buys manga for me XD

My parents know how I like to read and collect manga books and are ok with it.

I don't live with my parents atm, but when I did, and mentioned manga, they'd kind of... get a funny kind of look on their faces like they didn't know what I was talking about. My dad enjoys some anime (mostly DBZ... haha) but is mostly clueless when it comes to manga.

As a parent, I don't get too uptight about anime as long as it's age appropriate for my son. I appreciate the art form because some of it is spectacular. Some of it is too violent and "out there" for my personal tastes, but I'm sure my parents felt the same about what I was into when I was in my tweens and teens.

My dad thinks it's art, and says it's fine as long as it's not hentai, [I went, 'WTF, he knows about hentai?']. I guess he did some research. XD He thinks it's an interesting culture, but never questions me about it.

My mom. She hates it with all her will. She thinks it's porn central and every time I even dare to mention it she groans/makes nasty faces. It's just so unfair. I can't go with my mom to buy manga... because I either end up really p*ssed/crying, or she ends up really annoyed making nasty comments about the store or the manga itself.

My parents are indifferent, apart from my dad who might occassionally like some of the art work and skim through a coupla pages.

Mine are extremely indifferent about it. They're almost oblivious.

Oblivious? Be glad of that.

If mine ever did some research on 'yaoi' and 'hentai,' I wouldn't be alive today.

At least when it comes to manga/anime/Jap music, I agree. But then again, she's probably trying to protect me... after all, I'm just 14. ^^;

My dad knows about hentai... as stated above, however, knowing that my mom's a homophobic... she'd probably be scared if she knew what shonen-ai is, and that's when I wouldn't be exactly alive. DX

I don't have any manga yet, but if I bought any, my parents probably won't mind. They usually approve of anything, as long as it's not video games.
