I thought that generation 1 had a special place in the hearts of many fans but as time goes by it's clear to me that a lot of fans don't actually like it. Maybe it's because many fans these days were too young back then to remember how iconic generation 1 was or just weren't born yet but I feel like the fandom is totally divided on that subject.
But when you say generation 1, do you mean the original 151 Pokemon, or the Red and Blue games setting (plot, region, etc.)? or do you mean the technology used back then?
I mean of course many are going to feel like it was so reduced compared to what we have now.
And the original 151 Pokemon were amazing in its time. I feel like now, the way the game developers shove the original 151 Pokemon down our throats is by modifying them and enhancing them to give them a new spin on an old thing (mega evolution, adding moves, Gigantamax, etc.)
And of course the setting came from a very early stage of Game Boy development, making everything look and seem reduced. The plot was not as invested in as say Pokemon X and Y or Sun and Moon was. And I think it is hard to make something that was so reduced into something more substantial. Let's Go games tried that and I am actually playing Let's Go Eevee right now. The way I am invested in the story is not as much as I was with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
But Gen. 1 has a place in my heart because of the nostalgia. I was in grade school when I played my first Pokemon game, Pokemon Blue. It was given to me along with my Game Boy Color because I made high honor roll in school.
And if this is still a phenomenon, hey they must have and still are doing something right.
I am curious as to hear the reasons people dislike generation 1.
