• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

How many more can they make

I think they'll just keep going until Satoshi Tajiri dies xD
...And then his children will inherit the company...

No they won't. He doesn't own the company. Or anything related to the franchise that could be passed on to next of kin.

I could've sworn I read somewhere that Satoshi Tajiri said that he had always wanted to create exactly 1000 pokemon altogether in total? It makes sense to me that that had been his plan all along from the start since right from the very 1st episode of the anime no less you see a brand new unknown pokemon that's not a part of the 151 set: Ho-oh!

Well, supposedly there are over 500 tentative Pokemon designs in reserve, I'm thinking they will just keep on going and going until the franchise stops selling. I.E. probably won't stop for a very long time. I wish they'd have regional pokemon variations(like freshwater/ocean variations for pokemon that show up in both locations) in the games instead of making more and more unoriginal designs, or at least chose more organic pokemon.

I believe Pokemon was initially planned to have been stopped after gen 2, that is, with 251 Pokemon, but fortunately, they did continue after that ^_^

And I don't think it'll stop at 1000 either; as many have said, they'll continue to make Pokemon as long as the franchise continues to sell.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Pokemon-to-real-world.png Well the pokemon world is base on the real regions of japan,(look on this link if it worked :S) so what happens when they do all the regions of real japan,do you think game freak would expand on to the real world?? Or stop making more pokemon? Then theres the names Black/White seems to go back to basics.

As people have stated, Ken Sugimori has made loads of designs so more pokemon will be expected in the future,Id just like to know where they go to for game names that dont sound silly like "orange or pink" or a mineral thats to hard to pronounce.

Just my two cents.

Considering it's a game, just because Japan is covered doesn't mean they'd have to stop making maps of new regions. There's always the rest of the world, but even without that, some original regions from Game Freak is also possible.

The names don't really suggest anything special. I don't think we should go by that as an indicator of things like these.

I think Ken said that he has more than 1000 Pokemon design in his mind and he would keep on making them till he runs out of idea.

As for this thread I have only one thing to say:

Have no Fear
They have got story for years

I hope they will make new regions based not only one japan but other parts of the world, would be good :)

I also think that 600 pokemon's are just to much. When DPP was released, I already thought that 500 was to much, but 600 is just insane in my opinion.
I actually HOPE that there will be only, like, 30-40 new pokemon in BW but when they are going to make 600 of them, I hope th design of the pokemon is at least good (with the starters, the legends and Zoroark and things they have a good begin). But I agree with the other people here, GameFreak will continue making the game's untill they do not sell anymore...

I predict that the franchise will finish up with 4812 different species of Pokémon.

(This is why ''Gotta Catch 'Em All!!'' was dropped!)

The real world has millions of species, so why should Pokemon be limited to 600?

Well, I don't think 600 is too much, but Pokemon is a game after all, and tbh, millions of Pokemon will be ghastly affair to say the least :p

Pokemon will probably never reach ten thousand, let alone a million. So that isn't really a concern. Even if it were to expand that much, I wouldn't be opposed to it at all. It really fleshes out the world that they live in. In the early anime and games, they mentioned (and showed in the anime's case) real world animals. There simply weren't enough Pokemon to create a realistic world. There's still too few, honestly. The more Pokemon we get, the better, I say.

Because real-life is not a place where the meaning of it is to train and battle all animals ;)
When I play a game where I want to make a team of a total of 6 pokemon, I think that choosing from 600 or even a million is a little bit to complicated.

Ah, but there are people out there who consider it a goal to know as many animals as possible, myself included. That's why I like Pokemon.

Besides, they dropped the Gotta Catch 'Em All slogan before RSE, so collecting and training them all is a self-imposed goal.

If anything, more variety is good. It'd be boring for competitive gamers if there were only 151 Pokemon, because the teams would always use probably only a dozen or so Pokemon. The more Pokemon, the more and the better options there are for teams. The more Pokemon, the more unique each team, and the more unique each battle for competitive players.

With this entire series revolving around space, it is kinda ironic that they've never let you travel there. Clefairy apparently comes from the moon, and deoxys came from a meteor. Why not let us catch'm there?
