• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

How many more can they make

There's no exact time/Generation Pokemon would end at. Until Game Freak runs out of ideas, then new Pokemon will stop being made. Still, the Pokemon don't have to be animals, right? 5th Generation has a sarcophagus, so that seems like the start of "New Pokemon not being Animals, mostly". Plus, some Pokemon can get pre-evos/Evolutions based off their design. (i.e. Aipom, Murkrow etc. etc.) IMO, I think 5th Generation will reach close to or past 600. Although....
1st Generation: 151 Pokemon
2nd Generation: 251 Pokemon
3rd Generation: 386 Pokemon
4th Generation: 493 Pokemon
5th Generation: 5?? Pokemon
And so on....

I don't know what will be the limit of Pokemon, if there is one, but 1,000 seems like a good amount, assuming GF isn't still full of creative ideas for Pokemon designs. This might be a bit much, but for the last Pokemon Game, you can travel to all of the Current Regions and get badges, but like I said, that might be too much. You never know, especially since new Consoles are getting more advanced, so a Console at that time might be able to hold enough space.

There's no set number that they have to reach, as far as we the fans know. They could go well past a 1000 easily. It wouldn't be hard at all for them to do. Especially since they bring in new people each gen so they don't run out of ideas or get stale. I think pokemon would have stayed the same style as 1st gen had the four creators stuck to it. Slowly, new members were adding and some left the games, so you have to enjoy it despite the newness of the 5th gen. Don't worry, we'll get over all this shock and grow to love them too... even the sarcophagus...

They'll make more as long as people are still playing the games and watching the show. As long they have a lot of creative designs.

there are still lots of concepts for Game Freak to explore, i agree than many animals such as the dolphin havent been made into pokermon yet. I wanna see them push the limits and mind boggle us on what they can create, so i keep buying and playing the games, and look forward to more, im sure we all feel this way. It really is a genius concept, making a game where you "gotta catch em all" and then adding a batch of 100 or so do you have to buy another game to catch more. This is why its so successful for them. we may get to 1000 but i have a really hard time comprehending how players will be able to organize, maintain and use 1000 pokemon. Black and White may and probably will put us over the 600 mark.

Pokemon will stay as long as people are remembering it

It doesn't matter if Game Freak stops making the games and introducing new Pokemon or not. If they do stop, People will make their own Pokemon, compile a new Region, Dex, charts and everything. That's just what some fans will do. The rest of us will be playing it and suggesting new ideas for the series. The same goes for the anime. Though it wont be according to the 'official' storyline, It will still be entertainment because of the subject.

Fakemon, fake regions, etc. are already made by many fans. That doesn't mean that they'll actually become real Pokemon if Game Freak stopped making them :p

never said it would be official. I only say that the fans will take things into their own hands and make games with different features and stuff to tide us over until Game Freak would start back up again. And most likely the people at Game Freak see these new games, they might make them official if they like the concept. And with the anime, well, we obviously wont get time on the TV so the unofficial series would be on sites like youtube and others.

The new Pokémon are overrated in my opinion. They're a bore.

I think that they will keep making more as long as people are buying their games/watching their shows. Honestly, I am fine with 492(I really hate Arceus) and think that they could stop there and just create new regions with maybe mixed generations. But, now that Black and White are coming out that means more Pokemon. I just really hope that they stop after the 5th generation, the Pokemon are going to be too hard to remember all of them soon.

Absolutely not. A video game studio staffed by trained and vetted professionals is not going to look at anything the fans do and say "oh hey this is neat, let's use it" for any number of reasons, nor should they.

Opinions and $1.50 might buy you the morning paper. Might. Thanks for sharing. Next...

Ask yourself: does this really seem like a realistic possibility? That they're going to reach 600-some Pokémon and arbitrarily decide "whoops, no, too many, we're done"?

Even if they do, how does that affect anything?

...Yeah, this was already covered. They wouldn't.

Yeah, people would actually watch some fan-made animation thrown together in an hour.

And in general, there's also this thing called copyright.

I agree with you but I think that if they will stick to the old pokemons and never add new pokemons then people will become bored and likely to never play it because some players continue to play pokemon because of the new pokemons...;328;

Given that the Pokemon company has been going about 10 years (I think), they're going about 50 pokes a year on average. Now, Pokemon will eventually come to an endgame, unless the Pokemon company is completely adamant about going for many timesfold that, we may end up going to the year 2050. That would leave us with a mind-boggling 2500 pokemon. I'm saying that's how far they may go. Of course, if the pokemon company never stops, or the 2012 superstitious prediction happens..... ouch.

2012 prediction = We stop in gen V
Never stops = Possibly massive amounts of pokemon.

For me i won't have any problems even if they make 1000 or like 2000 more pokemons, since i would only remember about those pokemons which i like or those i want to use.

What i am surprised to see here is that, there are many pokemon fans who don't want any more new pokemons to be released (I don't know what is the real reason for that).
But if we compare the Pokemon franchise to the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise, then we would see that the number of monsters in both the series have a big gap. There are like over 5000 types of monster in Yu-Gi-Oh, but i have rarely seen people in the Yu-Gi-Oh fan-dom complain that they have a lot of monsters & they don't need any more, instead they ask for more monster cards regularly.
No one there says that they are having problems remembering the names of over 5000 monsters (which according to me is a silly excuse to begin with).

As long as the company has designs to release as new pokemons & the money to support there staff, they are going to be making them in the future as well.

Not sure where you got the "many," but there people, yes, who wish to avoid the creation of new Pokemon. Usually, it's based on a belief that the older generations were best and that the new designs are mangling Pokemon's legacy.

Everybody's entitled to their opinion, I guess, but I'm under the impression such people are in the minority.

Well, Yugioh is primarily based on a more competitive mentality. There's no point in remembering a horrible monster card simply because it's horrible, you'll never use it, never see it. Forget about it.

While Pokemon does have a sub-set of fans with a competitive mentality, the franchise as a whole is based more or less on the "Catch 'em all!" thought process (even if that's no longer be used as a catch phrase). Each of the 493 Pokemon is individually worth more, in various respects, than a single Yugioh card. They're more memorable, one of them has a bigger impact on the competitive scene, etc. Numbers in general are also an issue here. A Yugioh card is one among some several thousands. A Pokemon is one among hundreds. A Yugioh card is used in conjunction with some 39 others. A Pokemon is used with five others.

Basically, things get lost in the shuffle for Yugioh, they can afford to get lost, and, indeed, some cards are made to get lost. Pokemon isn't really designed like that... though I suppose the distinction might blur at some point after series upon series of new Pokemon.

Compare to Chess. Each piece of sixteen is worth much more to a player than a single Yugioh card is. The comparison between an individual Pokemon and an individual Yugioh card is currently similar, though not quite so drastic.

I'm not saying anything in particular here, just looking at the involved thought process.
