How much time do you put in this game?

I read through here and I am COMPLETELY confused by Shiny Breeding, 'Flawless' Pokemon, and 'The Best Movesets'.

I thought this was a Kid's game, not a Science Major's.

SO! Explain how long it took you to understand all this stuff and how much time is put on your game.

Shiny's not difficult, and shiny breeding doesn't work in R/S/E. There is always a 1/8912 chance or so that it will be a shiny. In the metal games there was an increased chance if you bred a shiny etc.

It took me a week or so to understand what I know, I'm always learning more and I don't know everything at all. To understand EV Training/Flawless IV's/Breeding etc. it's best to read Expert Evan's post since he's so well versed in this sort of thing.

i undersatand the shiney bredding thing, its just like once in a blue moon it will be :/

i dont understand the EV training, the IVs,or none of that :/
i just play the game

Just look on the main website to get a good idea of how it works.

IV's are a stat that is hidden, it ranges from 1-31 with the closer to 31 the better. It's like your pokemon's traits. If it had 31 for attack, this means its attack is flawless and as such a Level 50 Salamence's tackle would deal much more damage than a Level 50 Salamenece with 6 attack IV.

This allows you to EV train your pokemon to its strengths. If it has a flawless attack but poor special attack, and a nature that also boosts a pokemons attack and decreases its special attack then you'll want to base your moveset around physical attacks such as Bite, Crunch as opposed to things such as Thunder, Dragon Claw or whatever. There's a list on the main site listing which is attack which is special attack.

EV training is boosting a certain stat by beating pokemon which are dominant in that area. For example beating a Zubat gives you +1 speed EV because speed is a zubat's dominant stat. Beating 4 Zubat's will increase your speed stat by 1, so you can see how handy this would be. By adding the macho brace to hold, the EV's are double - so those 4 Zubat's become 2. Then if your pokemon has or has had pokerus, that doubles it again. Meaning beat 1 Zubat and suddenly you don't have to do as many battles (I'm lucky, I discovered my pokemon had pokerus earlier today so I've got a poochyena preserving that in the PC for me :D))

A pokemon may only receive 255 EV's in a single stat to keep the game somewhat balanced and 510 EV's in total. Therefore a lot of beginner EV spreads (or if you want to get a big hit quickly) are 2 sets of 252's and 6 other.

So a lot of people will go with 252 Attack/Sp. Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP. That means you get the first strike and first and the possible 1HKO etc.

Any clearer because there's still more to understand! :p

I care about ev's iv's and all tose stuff i took me i think not to long to understand:D

IVs and EVs are difficult to understand. Read through the guides on serebii.net and you'll understand. Once you fully understand, you'll be ev training like a pro....just like the rest of us ;)

DONT DOUBLE POST read the *piep* rules

I play the game to win and winning is fun. I play without worrying about IV's and EV's my first time through though.

I spend a lot of time shiny hunting, not necessarily breeding.

I do understand EVs/IVs and stuff like that, but I haven't done anything with them yet. I will soon, though.

I care a little about EVs, natures and IVs, but if my Pokemon has crap IVs I still raise it. I mean... get my 77-strong Sneasel army. Some are Modest, Rash or Quiet natured with low IVs and some are non-EV trained but I keep them. Yeah, you can say it's because Sneasel owns me but i'm still very proud of my modest Blaziken and adamant Gardevoir.

So in short... I care about them a little but if a Pokemon is not "flawless" then I still keep him, her or it. Especially if it's a Sneasel.

Well.. you can be a "stat freak" like the (most of) the rest of us here, or you can just simply play the game and have fun... Both kids and adults can play it, that's another reason it caught on so well (and why business men in japan play the game during their walk to work).

I don't like treating my Pokemon like numbers. I just train them the way I find them, battle, and just have fun.

I may want to experiment a little with EV's and all that in the future, as I have read it and think I understand it pretty well (didn't take all that long, I just had to read the articles on Serebii twice through each). But planning it all out gives me a headache, and makes me feel like a jerk for trying to be selective about my Pokemon. For example, I hatch a gazillion Pokemon in the hopes of finding one with a specific nature. >>; I'm sorry, but if I were a Pokemon and overlooked cause I was just being myself, I'd be pretty upset.

Yes, EVs and such help for competitive battling. But really, do people have so little faith in the Pokemon they catch that they won't take them for what they're worth, and instead do the number crunching game to "win"? I love my Pokemon for who they are, not because of the data they've been given.

Tis one of the reasons I post rather selectively on these forums. Everything Pokemon related seems to be about EVs, movesets, or spoilers. >>;

As to Shinies... I really don't care if one wants to hunt for them in the wild (that would actually be kinda fun, if you're patient enough, ^^). I can't really agree with Shiny Breeding, cause you're just ignoring the millions and millions of baby Pokemon you come up with that AREN'T Shiny. Don't they deserve love and attention too? Restarting the game a billion times to get a Shiny Legendary doesn't bother me, but I don't do it myself. I considered doing that for Mewtwo, but then I saw what Mewtwo looks like as a Shiny on this site, and I thought it was hideous. XD

I have a few Shinies, but they're all from good fortune, not by hours of hunting or breeding. And that makes them special to me, like fate was destined to have me encounter those Pokemon. Shinies (or even the exclusive Legendaries, for that matter) are less special if everyone else has a bunch as well. So I'm not going to abuse the game trying to find more.

Overall, I play Pokemon to have fun. I put a lot of heart into it, and you would be hard-pressed to find someone who loves her Pokemon as much as I do. ^^; I'm not a psycho who doesn't do anything else with her life, nor am I one who plays to manipulate the game and just win, cause nothing else matters. I just have fun. ^^ I have put many, many hours into the games (Sapphire alone has about 330+ hours on it, to say nothing of all my other games!), but only to do things like breed new Pokemon, run around and battle trainers, train new Pokemon, and complete my Pokedex. ^_^

Bleh, so there's my rant. >>;

Took me about a week or so to learn all breeding stuffs, EV, and IV (else...)
I don't care that much about shiny hunting, to think that the only difference is their colors...
But I do care about nature,EV, and IV. Took me about a day to find a flawless Def and Sp.Def Beldum, with overall impressive ability, I don't want to waste my TM to a pokemon with crap status, nature, and IV, so....

It took me a little while to understand EVs. :/ When I first joined, I's thought that people were making up EVs to confuse newbies. ^____^;; LOL

Well... that was a while ago. XD

Now, I understand EVs, but... I don't care too much about IVs. o_O; I mean, I'm personally just playing ingame. :/

Whoa, like my whole life starting from 3rd grade.

It is a science major to me, and to other people. This is what make Pokémon attractive. IT AINT NO KIDDIE GAME!

It's way more addicting than drugs too. Don't do drugs, do Pokémon. Even if it's more devastating XD.

I love this game. :D
