You start with two and then you can recruit more, eventually getting all the Pokemon.

I think each friend area has a limit as to how many Pokemon it can hold, but I'm not sure.

I know you can have more than one of the same type because I have 2 Voltorbs.

the max pokemon depends on size there is 1 and 4(i think) and you can only have 6 sizes to make you team and as for version exlusives you get a code from the mission that has it then type it in on the other game to get the mission then you beat it and get the pokemon

Well, if you beat the code-mission, the pokemon will start appearing in the wild, you will not have it in a friend area or something.

You can have up to size max 6 for your party...the max pokes you can have in your party are four.
