How should Shinou be handled anime-wise?

How should Shino be handled anime-wise?

After seeing the first screens for D/P (the male/female characters specifically), I started coming up with an idea thst would be real innovative for both the writers AND animators to try - make Shino feel like a real foreign country. I mean in the past, we've gotten a town or city here and there that has had a "foreign" type of feel from what we're used to regularly in the anime.

Here's a couple examples so you guys can see where I'm coming from:
- Fucishia City, Kanto - old-style Japnese village
-Ecruteak City, Jhoto - old-style city
--Alto Mare - romantic Italy
--Orudoran Castle - medieval city

I'm more than certian that the writers will choose to do as they've done for 9 years without question and that's whatever I guess. But, they have a good opportunity to really put some character into the backdrops even before the weekly stories are drawn.

Needless to say, the berees on the male/female D/P characters' gave rise to all this thought.

What ideas do you all have now that we've got some, not much, but some good info to go on?

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
Even if the towns all look foreign or odd, the anime writers will tend to ignore that. Look at what happened to Hoenn.

Fortree City is a unique village in the games where everyone lives in trees, in the anime we got a 3 second shot of those houses and that's it. Otherwise Fortree looked like every generic city in the anime.

Sootopolis City had stone buildings in the game, as well as having to dive underneath water to get inside. The anime, again, ignored all this.

Pacidfiglog Town was a nice little town built on wooden logs held up by Corsola. What did the anime do? Just turn it into a generic island.

The writers really didn't take any of the unique towns in Hoenn seriously, so I doubt they will for the next region.

Though they really didn't focus on it too much, you cannot say the anime shafted the idea of Sootopolis City. Yes, they may not have had to dive underwater, but at least it was still in an inactive volcano where there was only one opening to get into it. Also, the houses looked very much like in the games.

Anywhays, no matter how much they make the towns and cities unique, Satoshi-tachi will continue to travel through the generic, never-ending forest to get to them. I think they should have actual open routes in the anime, just like in the games. Not this forest crap.

Oh, and ditch Brock and bring on the D/P Female Trainer, where Ash and Max can watch her and May wrestle in chocolate syrup. Seriously though, there needs to be a nice gender balance on the main team. And it's always in favor of the males, which I, prefering the female trainers, hate.
And since it seems only one Region Hero makes it onto the anime, I'm hoping to GOD it's not the Male D/P Trainer. Then again, the writers did choose May and Hinata, so they may think it's time to have a little Male action. Oh GOD no ;o;

CyberCubed

Yeah, ok!
If the writers were smart, they'd take the D/P heroes and turn them into rivals for Ash and May respectively.

They could give Ash his first real rival since Gary via the male trainer, and May could finally have an ongoing female rival via the D/P trainer. (of course that would bring May up to three rivals, but we don't know what they're doing with Drew/Harley yet after this GF)

That way the D/P characters will be featured, and they'll esentially be traveling by themselves just like in the games.

Seeing the Male D/P Hero, I'd say HE was the one to be in Contests >.>
Speaking of making the D/P Trainers Rivals, wouldn't it be excellent if Ash actually had a Female Rival for once? God that would be awesome.

What would make the Rivalry even better is if the 2 D/P Trainers were travelling together, one for Gyms, and the other for Contests, just like Ash and May. That way, the D/P Trainers and Ash/May would be rivals, but in the end, wouldn't be all that different.

I own the 5th gen
that's actually a damn good idea, CyberCubed. But what're the odds that they'll actually do it.

Anyway, as the others have said, if the anime wanted to make a region look more unique, they'd have done it in Houen, since it had several unique locations in the games. But they blew it, anime writers opted for the same generic bullcrap, so something tells me the Shin'ou region's gonna be no different.

Won't it be wonderful? Another hundred+ episode saga full of bland as s*** cities that nearly all look exactly the same. I can't wait. ^_^

Oh, you silly positive sarcastic person you XP

Personally, I would LOVE it if the female character became Ash's rival. We need it, darnit!

Yay.

I honestly don't know what they actually are planning to do for DP, they probably won't pull a Johto and have the cast exactly the way they are now, they'd get too stale.

I can see this happening though.

Ash, for some reason or another, cannot travel with Pikachu, either he wants to train without Pikachu for a while or illness. Thus intrusts Pikachu with May. May becomes the star of the show. Ash is infact still in the show because both Ash and May are given a special device which lets them communicate constantly. (this could be useful for advertising the Wifi features DP might possess)

This is highly doubtful it would happen because this could enrage alot of fans.

...OR, as I have said time and time again before I took my hiatus, the writers could focus on a new cast and put Ash/May on the backburners to be the guest-stars this time around. A spin-off Pokemon series without having to do a real spin-off.

Cyber and .Combusken., your idea were also in the back on my mind for awhile. Good stuff.

Hey! Listen!
First, kick Max and Brock off the show. After that, introduce the D/P characters, who will then be the main rivals for the rest of Shino. Instead of having a main character that travels with the group, make a few recurring characters who pop up every now and then.

I agree, I believe they kept the cast the same all this time before the BF saga is still part of AG. If the D/P saga isn't, they may change it.

Although honestly, I don't really want any new characters to join the group. We already have Ash, May, Max, Brock, Misty and Tracey for all the main characters together, that's 6 characters right there. Add in more new characters, and those visits at Oak's lab are going to get awfully crowded. ;)

Did you get this idea from a fic? I remember reading a few fics where Ash gives Pikachu to May for some reason. Although since GameFreak is trying to promote Munchlax as one of the main D/P Pokemon, she already has a starring Pokemon from the next region.

I've always wondered if they gave Munchlax to May (instead of Brock at the time), was because they wanted to give a Pokemon like that to a character the writers knew would be secure in the series. Essentially giving what could be the most popular D/P Pokemon at the moment to the second most important character in the series was a way to promote her along the same lines of Ash and Pikachu.

Yeah, deep down inside I think we all have realized that, but not everyone as fully accepted it yet lol.

Makes any speculation that involves May being put on the backburner kinda futile lol.

I would absolutely love if they ditched EVERYONE, Ash, May, Max, Brock, Misty, Tracey, and have it the D/P Male as the main charecter and the female as his rival. He can have 2 other people in his company, people similar to Wally.

if they can add hundreds of minor characters, then it's entirely possible for them to handle more then six main characters, plus it's not like they all appear in the same episode often. The only times being visits to Oak's lab really.

It's been used in Fics? I thought my idea was completely original :(

BTW, I doubt Munchlax is going to be treated as big of a mascot as Pikachu is, Togepi was the same way for GSC and Kecleon for RSE. Both of them were hugely popular as they were the very first "brand new" pokemon of their generation, Munchlax will drift into a simlair obscurity once DP is released and becomes old news.

you said it some time ago, they gave Munchlax to May because she's super popular and everyone loves her character, so in a shamless act of marketing, they tack the very first DP pokemon introduced to the public onto her roster.

Munchlax is only the most popular DP pokemon because it's the very first one they introduced. Once DP arrives, Munchlax will be overshadowed by much cooler and cuter looking pokemon.

Got any links?

Only time I've read that Ash gave away Pikachu was After Hoenn and that was to Max.

Personally I'd say ditch Brock, after Movie 9 or whenever he leaves, and give Max that Ralts, from Late Hoenn.

But having the DP Characters as Main Characters, I disagree, but if they made the occasional appearances, I could live with that.
