How to make a sprite comic (for the noobies)

NOTE: this guide was made by me in Febuary/March. It is outdated but I will try to make a new guide ASAP. Ask if you want to use this on your forum. Random Dead Guy belongs to Vaati/Sanji/Matt. ToK, Teh one Interveiws!, and the Teh one Interveiws! backround belongs to me.

Alright, I owed someone some tips to make a comic so I’ll teach you to make something like Teh one Interveiws!
Right first we’ll need a background. We’ll start by making a panel!
Alright here’s a basic panel!
pannel6yu.png

kay now to get a background!
You can make your own but we’ll use this one!
background6pn.png

Now the background is bigger than the panel so let’s put the panel on the background!
panneloverbackround8rs.png

right now erase over the edge over the background. So it looks like this!
fullpannel6vc.png

now we need sprites!
We’ll use ToK……and Random!
Now look though the sprite sheets and find the poses that you want!
pannelwitsprites7ul.png

now drag one sprite there! Make sure the transparency button is on!
pannelsprites3qb.png

Now, white spaces will show through….use this colour instead of the white!
color1pr.png

Right! Now let’s make speech bubbles!
Now when you type the message, your given a number of choices on how to your characters talk.
1. Avatar
1speach6qs.png

These are good for pokemon overworld comics.
2. Tailed speech bubbles!
2speach7ed.png

Color it in with the color mentioned above.
Letters like Q,q,e,R,o,O,p,P,a,A,D,d,g,b,B,4,6,8,9,and 0 have to be filled in too!
And 3. Coloured speech bubbles!
3speesh2sr.png

See 2 and make the colors resemble the character.
Right! There’s how to make a panel!
Do it a couple of more times and you have your comic!
Remember this is only a guide. Everyone does their comics different!
Alright, remember not to steal other people’s jokes. Make your own!
Spelling and Grammar never hurt either!
And try to cut down on the n00b talk and abbreviations!
ToK and the Backround are MINE! PM me if you want to use them!
and Random is Vaati's! The pannel and color you can use though!
Peace out!
Davis.

Exellent Guide, Davis. *puts a bottle of clue on the table, in case one of the Mods want to sticky it*

lol thanks. notice the ToI room is outdated. and there are grammer mistakes in the comic. "nothin mutch homeboy" But I found it in the depths of ToCZ, so I desided to repost it. I had this up a while ago.
BTW, what happened to Blueray's comic guide?

w00t! Sticky! now there won't be as many "How do I make a comic?" Threads! Only from those that refuse to read stickies!

Thanks, SD. =D

One thing I absolutely cannnot stress enough:

Do not try to draw a new background every time you make a comic. Instead, the first time you make a specific background, save it in a Paint file for later use. Do this with every background you make. For one thing, it brings some uniformity to your comic, and for another, it saves time and effort.

While I'm on the subject of Backgrounds, here are a few more tips.
-Even if you're making a simple background, do it well. Grass that looks like this is so much better than one that looks like this.

-All your backgrounds should be almost exactly the same size and roughly square. I had a lot of problems with this in my early days. I had tons of backgrounds of random sizes that were often wider than they were tall. To get them to even look at all natural, I had to mess with them every time I wanted to make a comic. So avoid such a predicament. (What's even worse is if you don't care if it looks at all natural. Care how your comic looks, people!)

-Be sure to do Control-Copy from your resourse sheet instead of Control-Cut! If you paste your characters onto the original background, there's no way to get it back!

Of course, Outlaw, you are exempt from the above rules. XD

Which brings me to my next point. Don't think you can get away with using no backgrounds just cause Outlaw did. She makes up for it with clever jokes, funny characters, and props to give the illusion of a background. Also, it's become a bit of a statement for her now. It's kind of her calling card, her trademark. So don't think you can use "Outlaw did it!" as an excuse for avoiding the hassle of backgrounds.

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, and goodnight.

Well, ToK & Metaknight don't have backrounds for one reason. I'm on vacation and all my saved backrounds are at my home compy.
but other than that, good job on backround explaing MasterCougar.

i got one gustion i have no idea on how to make a comic so.... how did tou make the furniture.

PikaMew

Call me Kirii!
Thank goodness someone made this! oh, and mega treeko, you might find some sprites of furniture, but if you cant, just put some shapes together like Davis did in his example.

The furniture was also used in the whole first season of ToI. I wasn't very proud of it and got Vaati to make a whole new room for season two. If I do reamp this, I'll be using the new room.

Oh, that's perfectly acceptable. Just as long as you're not making excuses for laziness, cause that's bad. But when you don't have access to your backgrounds, it's okay to go without.

TEH-MEH!!!
Im stuck! Ive hosted my image in Photobucket so thats OK. But the thing is I can't actually enlarge the image once its up so its pretty tiny and words arent visible. That icon on the lower right doesn't pop up so what the hell is wrong? How can I enlarge it?

what you did is save it as a BMP.
you'll have to save it as PGN.
DON'T save it as JPEG, or GIF.
JPEG makes it look like someone spit on it.
GIF screws up the colors.
PGN = good k?
