How will rival be played out?

I want to know how people think your rival will be played out in the game. In R/B/Y/FR/LG he's been your rival forever and he's pretty mean to you. In G/S/C, he's a thief first of all, and he doesn't love his pokemon. And in R/S/E, he/she is your friend and neighbor and is very nice to you. What will the new rival be like? And do you think he will be the Champion after the Elite 4? Let me know your thoughts!

I hope it's not another May/Brandan. They can hardly be considered rivals. They wanted to be friends. The rival should be a jerk so you WANT to pound them into the ground. In RSE the last rival battle was before your 7th gym, and they didn't even have a full team! For this game, I think it needs a real rival, and someone like the RSE "rival" who helps you and gives you items along the way.

I hope the rival is someone like the FR/LG or G/S/C rival. They had an attitude that made you want to beat them up, or at least were amusing in some way.

May/Brendan/Wally (some people agree he was actually the rival) were pathetic rivals, all happy and go free... I hated them.

I just went and found something I said a while back on a different rival thread. I thought it might be deamed interesting here.

This idea is if your rival is a villian and steals the professors pokemon that is more powerful than yours at the beginning. Then, throughout the game, you encounter him a couple times and battle him for the Pokemon, but each time, right when you are about to defeat him, he cowardly runs away. Eventually he becomes the Pokemon champion. When you defeat him, the fourth Elite Four person comes in and asks about all the commotion. Your rival, with nowhere to run, releases his now fully evolved starter and tells it to run away. The starter uses Hydro Pump/Solarbeam/Fire Blast to create a hole in the wall, and runs into the wild. I don't know what would happen to your rival, but he would be dealt with. Finally, you are the Pokemon champion, but you now need to find the starter your rival let loose. It would be captured the same way as the Legendary Beasts/Lati@s. Once you capture it you can show the professor, and he will give you some sort of reward.

Another thought I had is if you had two rivals, the one that would be like May/Brendan would get the starter with a weakness to yours and the thief would get the one with an advantage over yours.

I got an idea! You have to rivals! A May/Brandon ish one. The other is one you choose that you battle early in the game. They have evolved Pokemon of the ones they had when you battled them, but automaticcly get certain others. It is like your rival however, it has a Pokemon that has an advantage on your starter.

You should get two rivals one like G/S/C and one like the R/S/E one but better.Either way i don't think we'll ever get another rival like the one in G/S/C.

I think in EVERY version after you beat the E4 you should be able to battle them agian, but the champ will have gone back home and you can battle him there. I mean, why do you battle to become champion if you are no longer champion when you go to battle them again?

Like Gengar, I would like two rivals, so all starters are taken. Rival 1 would have starter weak to yours, and would be like may and brendan.
Rival 2 would have the pokemon strong against yours, and would be similar to the rbgyfrlg rival. He rocked!

i want the rival to be a stranger you meet, maybe near to the start of the game, i dont want the rival to be friendly with you but not evil. i think it would be a good idea to have to team up with him/her at some point (maybe using double battles but you only control your pokemon) to beat the 'bad' guys
