Hows everyone doing during Corona?

mThe fact that everything keeps tightening even as some areas have flattened the curve and some experts saying things will NEVER be the same leads me need to one of 2 conclusions.
1: the shutdown is indeed permanent and will remain even after the virus passes(even though the cost for shutting things forever would do way more damage than any virus could) or
2: that things will reopen when the virus passes but will be shutdown again with every new virus regardless of whether the virus threat is 1/10 or 10/10

I sincerely hope both these predictions are wrong but if u look deep into it (and there’s no reason u can’t since everyone’s mandated to stay at home) one of these scenarios is very much a possibility.

It's probably going to be scenario #2. I think that's what scares me the most about this whole situation. I'm not scared of this illness specifically but rather future illnesses and how they'll be handled. Because when you think about it the fact that things even got this bad despite all of our advanced technology just signals how unprepared the world really is and I have little hope that we'll learn from this situation.

Stop listening to QAnon, Trump, Cult45, OANN, Fox News and Alt-right internet personalities and you'll realize why you're wrong and that there's a f**king difference or 50 between this virus and others.

I'm surviving. Financially I'm not struggling. I try to stay inside as much as I can which isn't a struggle for me. My backlog of video games is massive, and I can do my daily workouts inside. There's plenty of things here to keep me busy. Once a day I still go outside to get fresh air. The only time that I go to a public place is when I have to make a run to the grocery store.

you can’t really prepare for a virus though. The way they can mutate and spread and the severity of certain viruses we can never get ahead no matter how advanced we become. We can reduce risks of course as well as treatment/vaccines but the risk will never be zero. Heck there’s been a vaccine for polio since the mid 1950s and that disease still hasnt been completely wiped out. Same with this or any virus; even if hydroxychorquine serves as effective treatment, even after we have a vaccine, the threat of the virus will drop, but will never be zero.

yet government insists we must get the risk to zero before we can even attempt to go back to normal even though such a thing is impossible when it comes to diseases.

I'm doing really well. While I do miss going out, I used to go out every day, and that's pretty much stopped now. I've moved back home to make sure that my mother is okay since she's got some health issues, but I still pay for my rent, electricity, etc, and it's not such a burden since I'm not spending money to go out. I've been reading more and studying many subjects as well. I can say that I'm pretty much thriving during the virus. It's not been a problem for me. My friends and I connect with Zoom or Google Hangouts. It's really comfortable for me.

I guess the one thing that I really miss is my own place, but it's pretty nostalgic to live at home for a few months.

I just want it over with, no matter what time of day or day of the week you go to the damn grocery store it is ALWAYS packed. Restaurants too, I was wanting some Wendy's as I hadn't had any since this whole **** started, it was almost freaking 2 PM and the line went to the parking lot entrance! I gave up and just went home

The whole situation's making my depression slowly come back, work is hell atm(I don't work in any of those places though, thank god...) and with everything getting cancelled there isn't exactly much to look forward to. Can't go out to see friends, can't go on dates(Can't even see my gf since she's at risk :/ )... only talking to people is driving me insane! Videogames are the only escape I really have(RPing is too but due to people staying at home? All the rp servers and **** are super flooded so good luck not having your thing drowned within seconds and getting no responses as a result! I can't rp here as I like... more mature themes?), I hope the Pokemon DLC remains on track cause it'd be nice to have something new to do. I did pre-order the Saints Row 3 remaster, playing some co-op will probably help in some areas

Seeing all these people ignore it *cough* Florida residents/tourists just pisses me off as it's lasting longer thanks to dumb asses like them. It's always warm in Florida, idiots! You're not missing anything

I've been at home for roughly 40+ days and have stayed busy by doing lots of yardwork, having several bonfires, and organizing all the rooms in the house. I've started a pile of things to donate but cant do anything since most donation centers are closed.

Otherwise I've been playing video games as the main way to distract myself. I've played The Sims 4 (PC), plenty of Switch, and 3DS games. Since I have so much free I'm feeling nostalgic for old video games that aren't available digitally, especially Pokemon games. And I cant visit GameStop since their stores are closed and the website isnt useful. Only other option is eBay but you take the risk of them being overpriced or delayed if it's coming from an area affected by the virus. So I'm uncertain about what to do right now...

I know this whole thing will eventually pass but getting through it one day at a time can be difficult. All we can do is stay strong.

I’m starting to get paranoid that the virus is never going to end. I’ve been looking at videos & news reports that say the virus could last anywhere from 12-18 months, which could lead to stuff like economic recessions & riots. Plus, ever since the Pokémon series has been delayed, I’ve now been on pins & needles anticipating when & if all of my other shows (that I watch to help me escape/cope with the virus) will be postponed too.

I know that these lockdowns & social distancing are important, & I’m glad we’re doing this since I’d prefer everyone stay safe than die of a a fatal & incurable disease. However, at the same time I’m worried that this is never going to end between the news reports, reported second waves of the virus, idiots protesting to end lockdowns, and even bigger idiots flat out ignoring the restrictions, and incredibly stupid idiots opening states & countries again, essentially making the problem worse.

I was planning on using 2020 to make a game plan so that next year I could move out to California and pursue my career goals, but that’s all thrown out the window now. I have to go back to work on Tuesday &, while the area I’ll be in is safe since it’s been empty for weeks & we’re cleaning it from top to bottom, I’m still completely terrified to go anywhere besides my yard because there hasn’t been any signs of hope or that things are getting better.

I know I’ve said this before but what if this situation lasts forever (as this seems more & more like the inevitable outcome every day) & we’ll be forced to distance ourselves and have everything on hold for the rest of our lives? Or, a better question, how is everyone else staying positive to avoid thinking like this when there’s absolutely no signs of hope aside from assumptions & wishful thinking?

I'm doing pretty good. I think it's safe to say that this coronavirus crisis has impacted all of us in some shape or form, some more so than others.

Restaurants are carryout /drive thru only. My family and I don't really do those options. Since the change, we probably only did carryout / drive thru about 4 times. A majority of the time is cooking at home.

As for shopping for groceries, now I am doing that for when it's truly necessary. The grocery store I shop at has limited the number of people who are in the store at one time. Not sure exactly what the limit is. The other day, I had to stand in line outside the store to get in along with other customers. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. The line moved along pretty quickly.

It's definitely become more common to see people with masks on now due to it being required to wear one in public. It actually seems out of place to see someone NOT wearing a mask, well at least to me.

I'm glad that I live within walking distance to a park. When I need fresh air, I can just take a walk. There is plenty of open space at the park, and hardly any people since I live in a small community.

I can only really comment from a UK perspective, but I think there's causes for cautious optimism, even though life is going to quite different for perhaps the best part of a year. We're going to be living with the virus itself for a long time and it's going to be tough for especially vulnerable people. Vaccine research seems to be progressing very well, but a vaccine that will be used so widely for what is, for many people, a relatively mild disease, needs extensive testing before it's rolled out. UK experts said to expect a year before you can see one in operation.

As for lockdown itself? The 'old normal' probably won't return for a long time, but neither will the lockdown persist in the current form. Already, countries across the globe are experimenting with tweaks and relaxations after a plateau or fall in the number of new cases - Germany has reopened larger, more spacious retail outlets, and here it's been suggested that you can socialise with a particular list of people outside of your immediate household. A prolonged lockdown is impractical and unhealthy for many reasons, such as higher domestic abuse rates and reduced numbers of people seeking medical attention for other diseases, including cancer.

Outside of the vaccine, there's also hope for drug treatments for COVID-19 itself. A vaccine may prevent people catching the virus in the first instance, but there may also be drugs that help prevent progression of the disease, so we can yet hope that the death toll will fall regardless of infection rates.

RE: career progression and life events being put on hold, yeah, I feel this too. I'm very lucky to be fully employed and working from home during this period, but so many of this year's plans are just remote possibilities in the aether now. The silver lining is that the whole world is paused at present - you're not falling behind, because no one else is moving. Businesses will have to accomodate employees who have been out of work for months once normality returns; schools and universities will have to do the same. It's frustrsting to not be able to plan, to progress, to drive forwards, but just about everyone is in that stasis right now, so you're not missing out.

Huh, here in America, 20 states are starting to loosen their restrictions and starting to open up more businesses, though people are looking down on the idea of down the idea saying it's incredibly stupid and risky.

On top of that, there are people either protesting to end the lockdown completely or just flat out ignoring it. The only ones I can understand having this mindset are ones with low income, unemployment, and struggling to pay for their home & utilities, aside from that this is absolutely idiotic & just making the problem 10 times worse. We don't really see stuff on vaccines on the news. The most I've ever seen are reports on stuff like protests & states opening, the idiot president's press meetings, more reports of cases & deaths, and miscellaneous fluff pieces.

I sort of am enjoying not having to work every day during the week and doing it twice two times a week. I’m actually creating a decent Island in Animal Crossing which is a huge accomplishment for me as in New Leaf I still haven’t gotten the Police Station or Nook’s final upgrade yet.

This is something that the world will have to deal with for the next couple of years. Fact is it's a new virus that will continue to spread and evolve throughout our future. All we can do is find treatments, vaccines, or a quick cure. Just look at other epidemics from the past like polio, bubonic plague, or tuberculosis. Yes they still exist but they're not as many cases as there were centuries ago.

Well, it happened. I relapsed into self-harm again today. I thought I would cook a nice meal as a way to relieve stress from both work and the virus situation, but I burned my hand and accidentally dropped my food all over the floor, and I got so upset about it that I had a bit of a breakdown and deliberately injured myself. I know it sounds trivial and dumb, but this whole thing has left me in a bad place mentally, and I really am struggling to cope with it now.

I'm fortunate enough to live in Australia, which along with New Zealand is lucky with this pandemic. Unlike Spanish Flu a century back, it's more harmful to the economy than to people

I was doing better with worrying over the situation. For a while I tried to stop being pessimistic about the pandemic and started to think that things were finally starting to slowly get better. However, then I saw stuff like America & Japan extending their stay at home orders and a news report saying we'll be social distancing until 2022, and now I'm worried again

Honestly, aside from seeing my friends, the only thing that i truly miss is going to the gym to do cardio.

My mental and physical health really depends on it. I feel rather unwell without moving my legs and my anxiety makes it hard for me to go on walks, even before the coronavirus spread, because my town is already dangerous by it's own due to criminality.

I've been embracing all this free time and gotten back to exercising properly now that work doesn't eat up all my "good hours". Lucky we are still allowed to leave our houses as long as there aren't any large gatherings... which I'd normally avoid anyway. Haven't been completely been able to avoid corona anxiety, whether it's about getting sick or lack of proper income, but things could be worse... If it weren't about getting food into the table, I could actually get used to live like this as I can always figure out something to do... unsure how people are getting bored in lockdown already, unless they have more restrictions.
