Hyouka's the latecomer this season, and in my (fanboy biased) opinion it looks like the best was saved for last. Talk about your thoughts here, yadda yadda. I promise nothing when it comes to not freaking out.

Made by KyoAni.

Gonna watch regardless.

Because KyoAni does not disappoint. .

Anybody watch episode 1?

First off to me this looks like the best animated show this season. Lupin III definitely has the show beat in the style category, but Hyoka looks buttery smooth all the time.
I've already grown attached the characters, mostly because Oreki and Fukube are voiced by Tomoya and Sunohara's VAs from Clannad respectively. And because Chitanda is ADORABLE.

The story so far, while simple, has caught me interested. The first "mystery" was a great hook, and those hair scenes were crazy.

Alright I caught the first episode.

I can already tell that Chitanda is going to be my favorite character in this series so far. Totally thought everything here was normal until she stop him from leaving the club room. And yes, the animation is top notch, this is the first show I've watch from anything this season(procrastination lol) so my standards are gonna be pretty high now. The first mystery was also really cool, they really had me going too.

All in all, a great first episode.

I've got to wait 33hours and 15 minutes before I can watch the first episode, though I think I watched the PV enough to say this show will be the best of the season (my blind KyoAni fanboyism helps a bit, too) I would be prepared to call it the highlight of the year, that is if it weren't for a certain other series that could air before the year is over.

First episode was ... eh, dull?

The animation was great, like expected, but I wasn't really impressed by the first episode. I don't understand the motivations of the main character (or why he's so lazy) but I guess that might get explained later on. I don't know what to say, I liked Chitanda, at least. Pretty animation, that's all there is to this show, right now. I hope it gets more interesting with the next episode. :/

Needless to say, way overhyped by the KyoAni fanboys/fangirls.

We'll see where this goes.

The first episode was pretty good, but it was by no means the best first episode of the season. Chitanda was the most interesting thing about it, and it was nice to see her break Houtarou out of his shell a little. The mysteries were okay, but they were clearly meant to be short for introductory purposes, and they were a little too simple to be really compelling. I dunno, Hyouka seems like it could be a bit of a slow starter, but my gut tells me that I'll enjoy it if I stick with it.

Come at me bro.
i like the art and animation and story and stuff, but for some reason, it doesnt seem as good as i hoped it be.

For the first time ever in anime*, the random club that all the characters gravitate towards has a specified purpose. And its members choose to completely ignore it and go and slove random 'mysteries' instead. I can't really tell where this is going or what the point is but I think I enjoyed myself enough with the general pleasantness of it all to stick around and find out. And I like Houtarou's carefully calculated laziness, I have to say. It reminds me of the protagonist in a Terry Prachett book. Moving Pictures, I think.

*Untrue, I know. It's exagerrated for comic effect.

What is the Classic Club supposed to do anyways? The name isn't giving much away. Classic Literature? Classical Music?

I'm probably the only one here but I don't suppose it would hurt asking. Did anyone else get a Sherlock vibe from the ending of the episode? It may have just been the rainy street setting, but Oreki and Fukube walking down the street talking about the last mystery gave me that vibe. Hell, they even have the same hair as Holmes and Watson from the modern-day BBC series.

I'm pretty sure they said something about it being classical literature. And that tends to be what pretentious people mean when they say 'the classics'.

Needs more bromance for that. And awesome leitmotifs.

EDIT: Am I the only one who thinks that our protagonist looks a lot like a slightly broken version of Rin Okumura from Blue Exorcist?

Oreki's got more natural curled hair, Rin's is mostly just spiked. And blue. And they have different eyes (thanks for all the eyeball porn Hyouka). and Rin's doesn't have that "^" frown that Oreki has all the time. And pointed ears. So I say not really, though maybe I'm getting what "slightly broken" means wrong.
