You can get items if you rescue the girl in the cave. She will return to the house. She will ask you to bring her a Pokemon. Just show her the Pokemon she wants and she will give you items.

Actually, I think she gives you luxury balls.

Luxury Balls are the most common item she'll give, but she can also give expensive items like Pearls, Nuggets, etc.
