How come fire is good against steel? Shouldn't it be the other way around, since in reality, fire does like, nothing to steel? And why isn't water good against it? It should be because water makes it rust.

Yeah, I always thought it was strange that Water wasn't super effective against Steel. I always figured Fire was good against it becuase Fire melts Steel.

water is super effective against steel, and yes fire does heat steel up to uncomfortable levels

EDIT: What a minute... is it super effective? *questions self*

How do you think they forge steel. Ever heard of Pittsburgh? Steel Town, USA. They gotta get steel, melt it(with very hot fire), reshape, and let it cool to become a new form. Besides every type has to have a weakness.

wow I always thought it was... I cant believe that for 4+ years, I was thinking it was super effective...

Charizards pokedex info says that it can even melt boulders so that is saying something. Look on the main site in the poedex area, click on fire, and read some of the fire pokemon's info and you'll see for some of them on how hot thier fire can be.

Fire, other than melting the Steel, can make it softer... allowing them to be more succeptable to damage. That's why it's Super-effective.

yea only ground, fighting and fire are good against steel
ground- because of like earthquakes and stuff on buildings
fighting- ?
fire- because it's used to smelt steel

Fighting is a bit of stretch, but goes with the idea that they break rocks, ice and steel. That's how strong fighting pokemon are. Though really, fighting was just getting rebalanced and they added 2 types for it to be good against

You know what's REALLY weird?

Why is steel... ineffective against water?

I have yet to see a satisfactory answer...

ok im gonna go hit a pond a couple of times with a sledge hammer and see how long before it cries out in agony lol

why should it be effective agianst water, or do normal damage for that matter?

ah, the old pond analogy. Seen it before, and while it's extremely clever and inventive :)rolleyes:), it's flawed. Here is why

Water pokemon are not made of water. They are moist and often live in water, but that does not mean they have the same properties.

If it did... well, look at this:

Normal should be bad against water
Reason: ok im gonna go hit a pond a couple of times and see how long before it cries out in agony lol

Rock should be bad against water
Reason: ok im gonna go hit a pond a couple of times with a rock and see how long before it cries out in agony lol

Flying should be bad against water
Reason: ok im gonna go hit a pond a couple of times from above and see how long before it cries out in agony lol

Come to think of it...

All types should be bad against water
Reason: ok im gonna go hit a pond a couple of times with [insert type here] and see how long before it cries out in agony lol

WATER POKEMON =/= WATER

...so, like I said, not one satisfactory answer. For why water POKEMON should be resistant to steel ATTACKS.

water rusts steel so steel moves are not very effective against water

So then shouldn't water be super effective against steel, if it rusts it?

No to mention that steel couldn't rust fast enough to slow an attack...
