Despite all the speculation and all the hope, I don't think DP is going be online.. it was never confirmed before and still isn't confirmed.. This game is going to be a huge waste if it isn't online :(

True, but online play was not officially mentioned once. And pokemon games have a history of small revisions not huge additions.

To be honest, I don't care about the new region, the graphics, the plot, the DS functions or the minigames. I want to know just one thing: if this game is online or not. If this was an online Ruby version, hell i'd buy it on the spot. Online play is what this series has been praying for. If they don't add it when it is finally possible (and not too hard to make) then this game would be a sore disappointment.

And how much HAS been coonfirmed. Hardly anything. Besides I remember post on the main site a while ago saying there would be. R/S/E/FR/LG aren't online, are they wastes?

Actually no. They said it would support local communications via WiFi. They never used the terms "online", "internet" or "Nintendo WFC".

The GBA games could not go online. The DS can and does (6 online games already out, about 10 more in development) so it would be a crime not to include it. Online Pokemon will make these games eternally satisfying.

But you said it would be a waste. Obviously if it didn't have Wifi capabilities then it would be similiar, if not better, than any previous games, so your saying their a waste aswell.

Anyway, I think your point about it not being announced has been proven wrong as it HAS. And was one of the first peices of information we had.

If the GBA could go online and RSE wouldn't include it I would say they're a waste too, but it couldn't. Pokemon games are always great fun but an online Pokemon game is just miles above.

And also where was it announced? I've never seen it in any official statement :( all they said was that it would include wireless trading and battling, of the same kind that Fr/Lg had with the wireless adapter (that was WiFi too).

Cheer up.
The guy in charge of producing Pokemon D/P said he wanted to take these versions online, and this was a while ago too so the dev team will have had plenty of time to intergrate online.

geee...... we both said wi-fi was mentioned?
so yes... i guess it'll use wi-fi
as for online.... that term isn't really available here because the DS doesn't go "online" but will have access to wi-fi which would be like going online. confused yet?
Topic writer... you might wanna be a lil more specific with your topic because for a lack of a better way to say it... it has been confirmed D/P will be "online", it has not been confirmed as to what extent any of the wi-fi functions will go to.

Really? Can you give me the link please?
If he said he wanted to add it that would explain why the game was delayed by a year.. to add online play. Please make that true..

WiFi doesn't necessarily mean true online play. Fire Red and Leaf Green used WiFi for close range communication. It's not the same like in Mario Kart DS when you use WiFi to connect to the internet through a router or hotspot. I think they never said it would go online in the Mario Kart fashion, only the Fr/Lg way.

and fire red/leaf green don't use wi-fi... they use wireless.... not much difference but there is some.

sorry for the double post

And actually they did use WiFi. Let me give you another example. In Mario Kart DS you have the option to race against other people with DSes nearby, without connecting to the internet. You also have the option to connect to the internet and play with other people across the globe through the Nintendo WiFi Connection. However, both ways use WiFi - it's the same wireless technology, just that in one of them it is used to connect to the internet.

I have mario kart......
First off... Going with how it's stated in the instruction booklet.
Racing with your friends in the area.... it's wireless
Goin over the net it's called wi-fi
2nd..... Fire red/leaf green aren't on the DS... the use wireless by a special wireless adaptor.
Finally.... the big one... the difference between wireless and wi-fi
Wireless devices are devices that link together with each other wirelessly
Wi-fi devices are devices that link to something else across the net via an intermediate device. I.e. a wireless laptop uses wi-fi to connect to another computer via a wireless modem.

Kids like you seriously make me want to smash my head into the wall. No, seriously. Like everyone has said, the games WILL be Wifi compatible. Wifi IS the internet. How do I know? When my net connection as messed up, I couldn't connect to Nintendo WFC via Animal Crossing Wild World. Ergo, The DS can connect to the Internet.

The proof is also in the fact that you can use an Oprea web broswer in it. God...is it so hard to figure out? Oh and here's confirm info straight from this site:

It will be set in a new region called Shinou.
The starting town is called Futaba Town
It has been confirmed to use “all of the DS’s features” (Wi-Fi, touchscreen, etc.). Whether or not it will use the internal clock and calendar is unknown.
It will be compatible with all 3rd-generation games.
There will be no new types, but there will be new type mixes.
There will be many new Pokémon, including new evolutions and pre-evolutions of old Pokémon.
There will be new moves.
Up to 16 players will be able to connect with the DS’s wireless capabilities allegedly in a Union Room style (ex. trading, chatting, and battling). Mini games are still not confirmed.

Read the bold again. It was confirmed. So, please before you go rant and rave, please check the site. Sorry if I come off as rude but you're repeating history by saying the same thing over and over again.

Listen to DarkSpectrum and oher s who have wifi games. The game'll be wifi compatible. It was confirmed so just be patient.

False.

WiFi is a wireless information transer protocol. It works in two modes:

1) Ad-hoc: Close-range communications with other Wifi-enabled devices. This is what Fr/Lg had and pretty much every DS game also has. The devices communicate with eachother. The technology is called WiFi. This is WiFi. I'm sorry but "wireless communications" is not a protocol name. Fr/Lg used WiFi.

2) Infrastructure: A WiFi-enabled device connects to the Internet through a wireless router or hotspot. This is the way Mario Kart and Animal Crossing have true online play. This is also called WiFi. Nintendo's matchmaking service is called Nintendo WiFi Connection. However, that does not mean that every game featuring "WiFi" has true online play through the WFC. Big difference.

Up to 16 players will be able to connect with the DS’s wireless capabilities allegedly in a Union Room style.

This is what makes me suspect that they are not talking about true online play. The Nintendo WiFi Connection only supports up to 4 PLAYER multiplayer (everyone with an online DS game can confirm). This makes me believe they're just referring to the close range communications, which would be obviously included as it is the DS' equivalent of the link cable.

*sigh*

Read this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WiFi

It's also been confirmed to be Wifi Compatible WHICH is online. Read the wikipedia article. Don't say "There's false info there." I assure you, that info is accurate. Wikipedia has a strict screening policy.
