I don't think day or night will ever return

I know this probably belongs in the gameplay thing but I want everyone to see it.
I believe that I am right on this fact because Lugia and Ho-Oh are based off of the legend of Amaterasu(light/day) and Soosano-oh(?)(darkness/night), in which tragically they chase after each other but never see each other, hence the basic premise of day and night. Since the two will never be legendaries in the games besides if you trade it I don't think the day or night feature will ever appear again.

They can think of some other reason to add day/night. The absence of Lugia and Ho-Oh doesn't mean that there will be no day/night.

That seems like a too elaborate explanation.

One that is simpler would be the pressure that parents gave Nintendo that stated that their kids were staying up late to get night Pokemon. While I generally feel this to be irrational considering that 6 PM is a perfectly reasonable time for night to set in, you can't have the company capsize because it didn't fulfill the whims of angry product-buyers. Thus, day/night is not likely to return in earnest without a major uphaul of the current system.

Many people say that that's the reason they excluded it. Do you have a link to confirm this? Because I've looked in search engines from afar and none mentioned anything about complaining parents.

Well, you can fiddle around with the DS's clock whenever you want to, so I don't see the problem in night and day returning. And these parents are idiots if they can't control their children.

I'd like to see day/night return to the games, but i wouldn't be broken hearted if it didn't. as long as the realtime clock stays i'll be happy.

Blueguy had an exelent point about the DS clock should, and may bring back day and night, and well this could be the rebirth of the late night radio shows, night catching, Daily radio, daily settings, maybe even a calender because the DS has a calender...

That has nothing to do with the Day/Night feature!

G/S/C had the Day/Night feature and Lugia and Ho-Oh were in those games!

The Day/Night may make a return in D/P since it is 3D,and the DS can show more Graphics that the GBA can't.

Gold and Silver weren't 3D and they managed to pull off day and night fairly well. The GBA is more than capable of displaying graphics that correspond with a time of day. It IS more powerful than the Game Boy Color, no? *raises eyebrow* And, D/P isn't truly 3D; some objects are made from polygons, but that's about it. It's still overhead view, with sprited overworld characters.

Lugia and Ho-oh were in FR/LG and those games didn't even have a clock!

but in FR, and LG lugia and ho-oh weren't readily available to the general gaming kids. going to an event and sutch, most kids cant get thier paresnts to drive out to some place for a game that they probubly think thier kids are playing way too much anyway, ya know?

Time within the game will most likely be run from the DS internal clock. It is quite easy to change the internal clock on the DS meaning that If you didn't want to wait around until it was night to catch a certain Pokemon, you could just fiddle with the time and advance it a few hours. This feature right there should take away any problems parents had with the G/S system of night and day.

In response to the actual topic.
It's an interesting theory, but Day and Night was not really in G/S JUST because of the legend. The feature was a way to liven up the new generation games. This feature also couldn't be used on the original game (RBY) because the color pallete was far too small.

If GF intended to get rid of day/night, they wouldn't have based so many mechanics around them. (such as Espeon/Umbreon, Morning Sun/Synthesis/Moonlight, and nocturnal/diurnal Pokémon) I believe day/night were cut because GF (fools) thought they were unpopular, and from this parental pressure people keep going on about. With the switch to the DS's clock, the inconvenience of having to wait is alleviated, and, with it, the reason not to have day/night. Under my time hypothesis, we should see the return of day/night, since the fourth and second generations parallel the third and first.

Personally, I'm hoping for the return of day/night, but I'm not sure if Gamefreak will be able to implement it without several parents complaining that they aren't meeting their demands. However, the critical thing here is that not only can the DS's clock can be changed, as Chilled2M7 said, but also it's a readily accessible feature on account of it having documentation and not merely being a testing feature for the designers that they forgot to remove.

And, I don't know how helpful it will be, and indeed it seems a bit counterintuitive to me, but should the DS be able to store dates - I don't have a DS so I don't know if it can - the day/night divide could reflect the actual state of the sun in the sky as relative to, say, a 40° latitude. While kids would need to wait longer for the night Pokemon to come out during summer, it would add a flash of realism to the game for sure if it isn't too much of a bother to implement.

Yes, the DS stores date and year. Sadly, it doesn't do the time zone/GMT/DST thing we're used to on NT and *nix.

Seriously, just bringing back the snazzy visual effects would be enough to please me. Day/night don't need to have a massive impact on gameplay; they just need to be there for atmosphere. Day/night-specific mechanics and side-quests would be a welcome addition, but they should remain non-critical to the game's completion.

Considering Animal Crossing: Wild World contains quite a bit more things to do than the original GameCube game did during the day and night, I see no reason why night and day wouldn't make a return. Or daily events.

It's much easier to work around with the DS' internal clock than it would be to try and work it from the game's "battery pack."

And if the day/night featreu does return, subtile shading could be done for say, dusk, dawn, twilight, etc, ;o

instead of the BAM night, BAM day, BAM night again!

I have high hopes for the return of day/night. The DS has an internal clock, so it will be possible for it to have several times of day such as the high afternoon, the watery morning, the dusky evening, and the black night as well as just the screen being daytime or nighttime

Huh? It's supposed to be realistic dude. The sun just poops out of the ****ing nowhere around here. And when you are walking out late you're screwed cause suddenly the sun is gone.

On late summer evenings you can hear people go "omfg! teh sun is gone" around here. Really nasty when you need the light (opening locks is a pain around here)
