Here is something that look me over 20 hours to complete. I know the hands are messed up and some proportions are weird, blah, blah, but besides that how can I improve?

This piece is of San Renard, a character by Daniel Renard.

I just like the design of thi particular character so I drew more art of him, yay... I'm sleepy so I'm sorry if I don't make sense, onward to the comic academy, huzzah! Zzz...

20 hours...wow...but after all the hard work and I can see that it paid off.
Well im not a gd crtique when it comes to art and i wish i could help you out on how to draw hands etc...

but what i would like to say is that your colouring skills are fantastic^^ all i can say is continue to draw and you will get better...thats what i do.
Practice makes perfect!!
I hope to see more of your outstanding work!!

Th... The thumb is on the wrong side of the hand. *moans*
I'm finding it hard to pinpoint the light source. Your facial anatomy needs an indescribable amount of work. Everything's just haphazard and "yikes", y'know?
Here; go to Polykarbon and check out some tutorials. I'm just too tired to give a detailed crit.

Mind elaborating on that?

Oh and this particular artist has a unique way of drawing his character with a pointed chin like that one, but I was just trying something way new.

Wow! Thank you! Your work here is done! Now get out of the art forum you mindless troll. He's looking for ways to make it better, not "why is it bad". At least provide examples of how to make it better.

Don't copy another artist's style, man. Artists' renditions are always 10 x better, crappy or not. Here; try Phong for some more in depth Photoshopping techniques.

I see a tremendous amount of potential emanating from you. Your hard work is a breath of fresh air. Just a small qualm about the shading--It appears as if you used both cell and soft shading on the same character..It always looks a lot more fine tuned that way...But aside from that, the fact that you are willing to dedicate 20 hours on a pic is amazing...Yes, I know you've heard this already, but keep practising, and you WILL go far...

Whatever it takes when I want something done it will be done. I just half-assed it at the last minute with some of the shading to get it done. gradients, burning, etc. I must've flipped through at least 30 tutorials on GIMP to get this baby finished. It's tough finding a good tutorial for GIMP...

Wow thanks for the comments everyone!

Ah so you use GIMP do ya? Seems like you're better at using it than me! I've had slight practice with it but very hard to get smooth lines. Anyways on-topic: Crits- since the sunlight is at the top right you need to distribute the parts of the character which are light and which have shade. Unless, the character is not part of the same scene so that was useless advice...Erm, not much else to say as everyone has mentioned the other crits. Possibly, the only real thing is smooth the lines more to get a better finish. Would like to see more!

And thats not really advice is it now... Sheesh! You're meant to give him support and he wants to know how to improve his skills! Instead of just saying "Oh its crap," give him any help with it. Why is it horrible? It's different but certainly not "horrible". You should really be more sensitive when choosing words or at least explain your response to any kind of art!

You know, it's quite immature to go about randomly insulting people's art like that. I think I ****** some people off somewhere, but meh whatever. Please leave my thread if you have nothing constructive to say.

I want to get smoother lines, but when I remove the white to implement a background it becomes pixelesque... I may be able to fix that with a bit of layering, but I haven't tried it out yet. I'll fool around with it next time. I'm a bit afraid to try vectoring again because I think it might mess up the coloring a bit. Meh, if someone could merge Inkscape and GIMP that'd be awesome (it's under the same license).

Driveshaft, now you've mindlessly insulted both me, and my friend. I'm notifying staff about you, you ignorant, idiotic purescent mass.

It shouldn't be a problem at all, as long as you start huge...like 3000x3000 pixels or more...When you resize it for viewing, the amount of pixelation is negligible.

I normally start at about 1750 - 2000 for my pics; it really doesn't have to be so big. I prefer large, but also nicely workable. Explain to me the actual process of making your completed art.

I'm not good at critique, but i do know it's nicer to earn more of a comment than "cool" or "good job" and it's so refreashing to see an artist actually asking on how to improve. Though, there are some things that can't be taught and the artist has to find for themselves.

That aside, it's been mentioned already, but the light source is a bit difficult to pinpoint. For example the light source does seem to be coming from the top right corner but the shading on the foreward arm continues along regardless of that. And the white colouring on the eyes looks a little too sharp compared to the soft cell shading of the rest of the picture. The line of were the colour lightens on the lower half of the face could be a little more curved to show that it's not a 2D picture.

Can't find any faults with the BG though ^^ That looks nice and smooth. Wish i could do BG's well *sigh* With it being darker it makes the character jump out at you more, too.

Sorry if i sound harsh... i'm really not good at putting thoughts into words ^^; I'd say practice makes perfect, but it doesn't as nothing is perfect and everyone can improve their work -^^- Keep it up, you're a good artist!

Hmm, it's not bad.

Your lineart needs a bit more smoothing out, and your anatomy is a big off ;;

I would google up some tutorials and practice a bit on your anatomy, maybe try light sketches just to get in a bit of practice before you actually make a drawing you intend to finish.

The coloring isn't bad, it could use a bit of improvement, but I like it =)

Keep it up though, and keep practicing and you will continue to get better =D

Clockworkz showed me a few things and I went from there, this is his character Nikki.
Request from my request thread. I have some things to fix, but will do it later, 'tis past midnight here.

Will color later, too late for me to do that now.
