I hadn't realized it, but now I see that the way the 4Kids Pokemon dub was handled is almost exactly like how Digimon started out!
The first 2 seasons of that show where the epitomes of lame, American derived writing, suffering from what I had originally deemed "playground humor". I remember, even that long ago, how I compared Pokemon to Digimon, and how I had liked the way Pokemon was more serious and realistic in its dialogue.
Things changed and evolved, of course. 3rd season Digimon brought the kind of seriousness and worth I'd been hoping for, and the 4th was pretty good, as well. Pokemon, however, was starting to wear a little bit thin. I had though it was because it was just not very interesting, which probably had something to do with it, what it being filler-happy Johto and all. But I think I somehow, even while watching only the dub at the time, subconsciously knew that the overall quality was declining. When I started checking back on it in Hoenn, it seemed totally different than what I remembered. And now, in BF, it seems almost unwatchable to me, and now I think I know why, which I said up top.
It seems that the roles I set for the two dubs all those years ago got switched without my realizing it. So yeah, that's it. I guess you guess can comment and stuff, heh heh...
