I need help coming up with some names...

Well, this is my first post in the lounge here. Anyways, I need some help coming up with names for some places that are coming up in my fanfic. Naming things has never been my forté, so I come to you guys, the community of writers here, to help me out. I need names for:

A swampy region.
A city within the swampy region.
A city that is known for its sword-making and samurai-ish ways.

For the swampy region, I had the name Terraborg in mind... Also, would it be a good idea to name the city something else that's within the swampy region?

The swampy region I had in mind is a very foggy place, always surrounded by a cloud of grayish mist which covers it like a dome. Of course, the ground is mostly too muddy to walk in, with the exception of some stepping stones/roads leading into the city. The city itself is built upon wooden platforms over the mud. The city is known for its ghost sightings, and a lot of the people there are mediums who are able to communicate with the dead, and see into a person's soul.

So if anyone could come up with a name for these places for me to use in my fic, that'd be nice. :D

I don't have too many ideas, but try avoid the cliche of ending the names of your cities with city or town. For instance, you could name your sword town Scimitarpolis, but if you were to call it Scimitarpolis City, that'd get old fast.

Dilasc, will do, since most of my city names don't have city in them anyways, and Saber, I likes the name Shinzen. :eek: Still up for offers on the swamp though. D:

I'll come out and say it. A name does not need to be a representative of meaning behind everything. If every city had meaning to it that defines an aspect of it, then the city designers must have had great foresight of the future to know that samurai would be walking the streets.

It's sort of like how you can see a guy named Rocky who is cliche with having rock solid abs. All in all, a name is just a name. As Shakespere said, a rose by any other name still hurts when you're stupid enough to touch the thorns.

Name of region: Indra, which means the early Hindu god of rain and thunder.

Name of swamp town: Pantano, which is Spanish for swamp.

Name of samurai city: Bushido, which means the code of conduct of the Japanese Samurai.

More ideas for names coming up if necessary.

My idea for city name given earlier by Butchimatic, Bushido( I love that word).

My idea for region, Astra(Swamp gases create a gas which helps stars stand out. Astra comes from Astralogical, Astronomy and other star related words)

My idea for swampland, Pitchmire.

Region: Garutüritz
Swampy City: Alëxia
Sword City: Kocàüzé

The weirdness pwns you.

Hmmm, like you, I am also bad with names. I know.

For your sword city, maybe Gladipolis will do. Gladius meaning sword, and polis meaning city.

For your swampy city, maybe Mireton, or maybe Miasman. That one is a bit harder. And for the region, I think you ment to type Terrabog. And Terrabog is a really cool name for a swampy region. Miasman can also be the name of the region to.

I've got it!

Ok, I came up with the names for the places I was talking about.

Swampy region/city: Ter'ast (sounds very fantasy-ish, but it's a name of my own making, thanks anyways whoever it was who said to make up a fantasy-ish name)

Sword place: Shinzen (went with Saber's :D) Although that one's not as important in my fic as the swamp region.

Thank all you guys for your help... I might post in this thread, or perhaps post a new thread, if I need help naming stuff again. I probably won't though :D

you know, I wouldn't use names that are too exotic, it would work in Sci-fi original fiction, but a name like "Ter'ast" doesn't seem to fit well in a pokemon fanfic :\

I liked the original name you came up with for your swampy region, Terra bog

but it's your fic, I wouldn't rely on others to think of names for things :\
