The father has to have the move. But Tyrogue can't learn any Fire moves apart from Sunny Day

Well if you want a Fire move on it, evolve it into Hitmonchan and teach it Fire Punch. Not that it's useful anyway.

Otherwise it can't get any Fire attacks.

Yes, but it'll grow up a depressed Hitmonlee because you taught it a crappy attack.

A Pokemon can't learn just any move you want from breeding, it has to be on the Pokemon's Egg Move list. So you couldn't teach Tyrogue Flamethrower, etc. Here's what you can breed down:

1. If the father knows a TM or HM move that the baby can learn, the baby will be born knowing the move.
2. If the father knows a move on the baby's Egg Move list, the baby will be born knowing the move.
3. If BOTH parents know a move that the baby learns naturally (through levelling up), the baby will be born knowing the move.

That's it. You can see a list of each Pokemon's Egg Moves on the 'Dex on the main site.

The only Fire move that it could learn is Fire Punch, which was already mentioned. The father must know the attack also.

You forgot one thing and this is Hidden Power. You'd have to teach it via TM.

with the split of physical/special attacks, Tyrogue/hitmonchan are not too bad off, since firepunch will likely be physical.

Don't think so. I taught my Forretress Rock Slide but its offspring (Pineco and Gligar) didn't learn it. They only got Earthquake.

Dude, just go Here and all your questions shall be answered, and why do people keep saying to breed for Fire punch? Tyrogues don't learn it from breeding or level up, so it's impossible to hatch one with FP. Just evolve him into a Hitmonchan, because As a Tyrogue it won't have any fire without HP.
