So all that we've seen yet is:
Land= Grass
Sea= Random
Cave=Random
Ice= ???
According to me, that'll be random too, with a buch'a annoying Seel, making you press that run even more, eventually getting that lower screen all scratched up. (or your buttons broken ._.)

Discuss..

EDIT:
Ru/Sa/FR/LG/Em had a cave but I'm talkin' bout a open area!

The Viper says; "Bring on the snow!"

I have always wanted a snowy area ever since...er, Ruby and Sapphire, but still I think it's a really good idea, so much that in my fangame* the new region is a snowy one. Hopefully D/P will have some sort of snowy mountain.

* When I say fangame I do not mean I am making some sort of hack or an actual game of any sort. I just draw up the new Pokemon/Characters/Areas and dream :3

I'd expect snowy areas to have patches of (covered) grass in which you'll find wild Pokémon, as in regular open routes.

In truth, land is also very random. Bug, fire, flying, normal... they're all in land. About ice, it will be random too.
LoL
I didn't mean the Pokemon, I meant the place where you'll encounter 'em.

Well if there is gonna be a "snowy area" I think it gonaa be in a town wich has snow in it, may be also you can go to a mountin area wich you will see alot of ice pokes, trainers also may be a big place wich has a pokemart/pokecenter/shop for Tms/shop for secret base thingis...etc.

An open area with a lot of snow in it?

Ah, I get it. This discussion must have come from the new region's deceiving name, "Shinou" which might get mistaken for "Snow". But what the hell, I'll post here anyways.

An open snow area... So far, the only areas in the games that has snow are caves: The Ice Path, and the Low Tide inner chamber of Shoal Cave. Now, I'm not entirely sure if Game Freak will bother changing that system, but I've been surprised before. Now, I'm thinking the most possible open-area with a snowy environment will be a mountain. It would probably be called Mt. Powder. But if that doesn't happen, then we get a Snowy City ON TOP OF the mountain. If that came true, the city would probably be named Powder City.

Now for the geography of the Snowy Area. It could be like Route 113 in Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. You know, the one with all the volcanic ash and soot piling up on the grass. But the difference would be that it is SNOW that covers the ground and grass, not ash. Like MetalMario said, the snow could pile up on some patches of grass, concealing them. That way, it would be an utter surprise if you suddenly encountered a Pokémon there. And also, Item Balls could be buried under some snow or ice, and you could only obtain the item by using a Snow-based Hidden Machine (HM) move.

More ideas when I think of them. :p

Nice idea! Seriously, I'd like using a snow based HM to plough through.

I'm all for more snow though - we need more Ice types, and a snowy rive of sorts where you could find Seel and Spheal and possibly Shellder. I'd like there to be more new Ice types. Hey, Buizeru could feasibly evolve into a Water/Ice type if it's anywhere near that habitat! *or not*

Yeah, that's a good idea.

If Diamond and Pearl are going to make Morning, Noon, Afternoon, and Night (From the Screenshot Joe provided.), then they might also make seasons. Though it sounds a bit too much like Harvest Moon, *ahem*, I still think it might work. Different times and seasons may affect how often certain Pokémon can be found. Take a lake, for example. In Winter, it's frozen. But if there a Snow/Ice-Based Hidden Machine move, then it might be possible to plow through or break the ice and you could probably do some "Ice Fishing". Or you might even be able to make a Secret Base in the snow. Hey, you could make one in a tree, behind a clump of grass, a wall, why not make a Secret Base under the snow? That would be a good idea, and it might even extend the Game Lifespan.

Neat idea!
Hey cool Ice fishing,Ive actually heard of that.I dont believe people do it though however it would be a nice change to not have a magikarp at the end of my rod all the time:)

Harvest moon?Who cares as long as a game can do something this amazing Im there!*Unless its Sony or Microsoft or something un-nintendo*

That's a good point.

But maybe there will be villages, towns or cities that are only a certain season. I am not exactly sure, though. The idea of seasons would have been great, but that means that certain Pokémon can't be caught. That can't do well for the gameplay... So I guess there won't be seasons...

But there really should be a Snowy Area. Having an open area filled with snow would expand the gameplay. There could be Ice Fishing, there might be a new Snow/Ice-Based Hidden Machine (HM), you could be able to make a Secret Base in the snow, and there could be a variety of new Ice Type Pokémon. With a Snowy Environment, there are a whole new lot of Gameplay Possibilities.

what the hell is this thread about?

I agree with you.

What's up with everyone and this "OMGZ!!! Please let Shinou be a snowy region!!!!"

Although having a town or route or whatever be snowy wouldn't be a bad idea, having the whole damn region be snowy is just plain stupid. Why can't Shinou just be a normal region like what the last DAMN 3 regions were.
