Ideas you’re shocked never happened in pokemon history

Like the title says. What’re some idea you’re shocked Pokémon never executed despite being obviously great ideas that would be good for profit

No trainer figures for people like GARY OAK and PAUL and such. Last time Misty got an articulate figure was what? Tomy? Biggest franchise on earth never gives us professor oak figure? :(

Simply repainting figures to shiny forms for sale

Pokémon green and card game 2 and others being released outside of Japan. I garentee the amount of money spent would be recuperated several times over, bring back older fans.

No art of /making of documentary or books. There’s kinda art books but not “art of” books like we should have.

Sequels to games besides black and white

Team rocket final battle

Finding out about ash’s dad

No more third version of games? :(

Manga being animated

Rehiring old 4kids cast

Dubbing recap episodes

Kids wb stuff is largely lost media

Pokemon never released subtitle for people to watch

Banned episodes never came back (yet…I hold hope)

What are things you’re shocked the owners of pokemon haven’t had done yet? I really want more behind the scenes info on the anime. It’s so limited.

It surprised me they never did another full series of Pokemon chronicles episodes. I really liked the episodes at the lab seeing how Ash's various pokemon interact with each other. Plus it could have helped keep certain chracters showing up a lot more like they did with Brock and Misty. They did the occasional spin off episode but I do think another series could have been fun.

I’m really shocked that there is no crane Pokémon. Bombirdier is a stork, not a crane. Why it’s so shocking that no actual crane Pokémon exists is the fact that the bird is so sacred and extremely iconic in Japanese culture.

We technically have Pokémon partially based on an origami crane in the porygon line. But admittedly a more direct crane inspired Pokemon makes sense. Part of me thinks it would work best as one of the legendary Pokémon of a region (probably not the box legends but more akin to heatran) given the mythological ties. Though it could also make for a good regular pokemon like a regional bird or a member of an existing line.

The one thing I am shocked hasn't happened yet is Pokkén Tournament receiving a sequel. While in the arcades it didn't fair well, on the consoles it was quite successful.

It's been almost a decade since the game was released on console, and over a decade since its initial release. We are long overdue for a sequel.

I'm surprised they didn't do more with Shadow Lugia. Even if it was just appearing in a spinoff game like Pokemon go or masters I do think its such a cool design I'd have liked to see it stick around. I get lorewise it'd be difficult but I think it would be doable (unless there's something else preventing them from using it that I don't know about.)

With the multiverse being a thing I think it’s easy lore why no?

You could use a multiverse or a clone that part is easy. More what I meant with the lore being difficult that it's heart is completely shut off due to being made into a shadow Pokemon (hence the need for purification and being reverted back to form) and if this was a permeant appearance I think they'd have to establish that it had recovered somewhat without reverting back to original form (as I don't think they'd want a permanent form like that). But I do think there are ways around it and I do think it would be a good addition.

Pokemons always had that issue though. You can’t revert back to charmander for example. Once you “upgrade” they’re like that for good for transformations for the most part. Just like in go if you got a shadow you can keep em shadow or purify em.

Though that's more of a natural transformation rather than something done to them. The way I'd treat it is more like genesect and that while it has been permanently altered physically it is able to open it's heart and act like a regular Pokémon. If it was a clone of the original for example it could easily be explained away that it can't be purified fully as that's how it was created but after purification it became able to bond.

Yeah but if you mash b you can force em not to evolve. It’s not really entirely up to them

while that is true. Shadow Pokemon function a bit differently, Shadow Pokemon cannot level up or gain ev's (until they are purfied), their moves are different, may enter hyper mode, and according to lore Shadow Pokémon are created through an undisclosed process that removes the Pokémon's emotions, turning it into a soulless fighting machine. That's a bit different to regular evolution which while an evolution might be human induced or prevented, the actual evolution process is completely natural. Being transformed into a shadow pokemon is more a completely separate artificial process. While I do think there are ways around it lorewise I would treat it as something distinct.

@PrinceOfFacade More Pokkén Tournament simultaneously does and doesn’t surprise me. The expectation with The Nintendo Company is that third party games takeoff really well because other companies are using the IP licenses of characters. All parties have to profit. Pokkén did well with two console releases. “Well” isn’t “really well”.

But the DX version is so polished, I sure wish we would get a sequel. Plenty to go with, with faves like Ceruledge, Grimmsnarl, Iron Valiant, and Gargancl since the original’s release that are really easy to model with the engine they used. And very popular too.

I’m really surprised we haven’t had a Grass or Electric Elite 4 member.

that's fair. In several regions like Hoenn and Sinnoh there's an elite 4 member where they don't have enough pokemon of their type and end up with either repeat based teams (E.g Glacia) or Teams made up of other types (e.g flint). In case like that they easily could have swapped the gym leaders and elite 4 around and had teams which would have worked better. In hoenn you could have swapped Wattson and Glacia and both would have worked slightly better and Swapping Gardenia with Flint would have been better as there's enough grass types to make a solid team (it does mean there's a Grass and Bug elite in the same region which leaves them a bit vulnerable to fire but sinnoh's not exactly known for fire coverage) and flint could easily have enough to be a gym leader. There's also the BB academy elite 4 where they easily could have had a grass or electric. We also technically have never had a normal elite 4 unless you count larry (who uses flying types as an elite 4 but I do think he could have just been an normal elite 4 if you swap some other things around. ).

Here’s hoping the next E4 we have is Electric, Water, Fire, and Grass. In that order. It will have a nice symmetry with the classic starter Pokémon, and with the original game colors. It’ll also mix up the usual Dragon/Ghost/Psychic types they keep falling back on. They actually can make Grass wicked hard to fight with all the combos there are and Grass of course getting Grassy Terrain, Leech Seed, Sleep Powder, etc. Grass as a Tera-type is chosen for its bulky properties and difficulty defeating.

One thing I do think could have made these types a lot easier to be elite 4 members would be if some of them got a pseudo legendary pokemon. It surprises me we've only ever had 1 game introduced 2 pseudo-legendary Pokemon at the same time and its never happened again. The closest we've had is Archaludon (which isn't technically a pseudo legendary but is the same stat total) which was only in the 2nd DLC or Hisuian Goodra (which was added the same generation as dragapult but not the same game). Most of the ones added have been dragon type as well and while dragon type is cool i'd like a bit more variety so that at least one added in a region is not dragon type to balance things out.

A Water type elephant. Maybe it would've been considered a bit too obvious but honestly with them being known for spraying water with those trunks and the whole drinking water through it in cartoons (artistic license biology in effect) they could've played with it. I am also surprised there was no Mega Charizard Z due to how much they love to give Charizard new forms and it already got special treatment in the OG Kalos game.

Considering that Water Gun used to be an Egg move for Phanpy they clearly are familiar with concept. Would not seem that odd if they'd made a full Pokemon.
