If instead of Master 8 there would've been a master 16 or 32 instead

So I put together how I would play with a Master 32:

pwt_master_32_by_k2basior_df8g2x6-fullview.jpg

Let me know what do you think about it.

Okay so here is my full-on honest critique. First of all, awesome roster, it's diverse and features a unique set of characters that represent different elements and can be sorted in many interesting ways like you mentioned; Flint vs. Volkner, Iris vs. Drasna, Lance vs. Raihan, etc.

The only changes that I would make would be exchanging Falkner and Mohn for Clair and Kahili respectively, mainly for one small reason; that is giving Trace a Mega Pidgeot since I would like to keep him around as the Kanto Champion but don't want his ace to overlap with Falkner's own Pidgeot, and then have Kahli since we still want to have a Flying-Type expert without unbalancing the amount of regional representatives. In that that way, everyone would have a unique main Pokémon of their own, but that's just my personal preference.

Other than that, this is a 10/10 roster and now I want to take the opportunity to take it even further by sharing my own vision of this. So I made a tournament bracket featuring matches that I would personally try to work in using these characters. I also tried to attach a reason that was symbolic to each respective battle, but some of them will likely not share any real or deep connection. Anyway, I hope that you like it.

Winner: Leon

Finals
(6v6)

1) Ash vs. Leon (Battle Between Protagonist and World Champion)
Winner: Ash

Prior to the tournament, instead of battling Raihan for a spot within the Masters Eight tournament it would be against Alain, where he would once again call upon his Greninja to this time defeat him.

In the first round, Ash would solely use G-Max Pikachu against Bede's G-Max Hatterene.

In the second round, Ash would use the classic Kanto starters; Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Mega Charizard Y as an homage to the original games, against Trace's Slowbro, Marowak, and Mega Pidgeot respectively. The gimmick that he would use in this fight would involve Mega-Charizard Y using a mega-stone that he would receive from Alain.

In the third round, Ash would use Krookodile, Pikachu, and Mega Lucario against Giovanni's Nidoking, Persian, and Mega Mewtwo X respectively. Mewtwo, who is the same from Movie 1 would have been captured by Team Rocket prior to the battle. After defeating Giovanni, he would retire from Team Rocket, and Mewtwo would be freed from his grasp.

In the semi-finals, Ash would use his Sceptile, Greninja, and Infernape against Cynthia's Spiritomb, Milotic, and Mega Garchomp respectively. The referees would not count Ash-Greninja as a gimmick, so Infernape would be the one to deliver the finishing blow to Mega Garchomp using a Fire-Type Z-Move.

In the final battle, Ash would use his full-on Journeys Team against Leon's own team of six. All three gimmicks would be allowed to be used in this battle, but ultimately, Pikachu would defeat G-Max Charizard through a standard thunderbolt, as I find that the Pikashunium-Z has been a little too over-used at this point. He would still use it in the fight but it would not be the finishing move. Plus a standard-thunderbolt as the final blow would be classic.

That is all I have for now, I really enjoyed expanding on this since I really think that it is an interesting concept. If I made any mistakes or if you want to let me know what you think please do let me know! And also feel free to adjust anything to your liking and as you see fit!

I think 32 is too much, 16 is more than enough.

I'd just add people who are champion tier, like Tobias, Virgil, Tyson, Alder and Paul.

Besides those, i guess it would be fine to include 3 rivals that could be on par with champions by now, tho i am not sure which ones... maybe Richie, Sawyer, Trip or Harrison, as it has been a long time since we last saw them so they might have improved a lot. Or instead of rivals it could be strong Frontier Brains like Palmer or Brandon. I suppose they could have used Galar's previous champions (Peony and Mustard), but it'd be a bit late to introduce them...

In my opinion, it'd be a bit redundant and pointless to add Gym leaders and E4 members, when they wouldn't stand a chance against actual champions (and we already saw Ash defeating an E4 member on the previous tier). I know some of them are said to be as strong as champions, but let's be honest... they are not.

Wow, you put a lot of though there:) Actually I am ok for removing Falkner (maybe he should be replaced by his father with a Skarmory) and changing Drasna to Clair but I wanted to keep Mohm around:) It would be nice to add someone from Kalos to replace for Drasna out (maybe Ramos?) or we can move Wallace to Random 6 and make Siebold the Water-type Expert instead. Also I think we are missing one person from Random 6, unless you decide Leon to take part in (my idea was that he will only take part in the final battle similar to Kukui in SM Anime.

You put a lot of thought into the fights, though:) I think giving Giovanni Mewtwo would be an overkill, I would like him to go with a "standard" Pokemon Team with maybe a Mega, G-Max or Z-move, but that's only me. I would also keep Jolteon on Trace (Raichu will be used by Volkner as it's his Ace in the Anime):)

Outside of that probably some small changes (like Palmer beating Brandon and loosing to Anabel later on but those are just cosmetics:)

What I would change the most would be the format.

I would make all fights 6vs6 similar to Hoenn League where all the fights starting from top 32 were 6vs6. I know it will take a ton of time but having this kind of feast is worth it IMO :)

Still, thanks for the input:)
What do you think about my idea for Ash PWT Team (Pikachu, Incineroar, G-Max Melmetal, H-Decidueye, M-Lucario and Dracovish)?

What do you think about my idea for Ash PWT Team (Pikachu, Incineroar, G-Max Melmetal, H-Decidueye, M-Lucario and Dracovish)?

Thank you to both of you!

I do agree that Mewtwo for Giovanni is a bit over-killl. Mainly it is because I wanted to give him something that was capable of under-going some sort of gimmick, in this case being mega-evolution, since none of his other game pokémon can do so. He has a Garchomp in B2W2, but I think that should be mainly preserved for Cynthia. Maybe a Mega Kangashan could work, and maybe it could be the same Kangashan that Pikachu met as a Pichu (the grown version of the little one) to create more emotion in the battle, but maybe that is also pushing it.

I don't mind letting Trace use his Jolteon in the battles either. Since I thought Brandon to be stronger than Palmer, I figured that it'd make more sense to give him the victory. I would like Anabel to eventually become the next Frontier Brain, but I felt like it would need to be through some official battle for the title, so I decided to give her the loss there, but I wouldn't mind either way.

I also want 6v6 fights, but I didn't want to spend too much time deciding on which pokémon Ash could use in each battle. But that was just out of laziness.

As for your team, is this meant to be the final team against Leon? If so, I like it when the types are more diverse, in this case having two fighting types and two steel types on the same team would not be my preference, and I would also have pokémon that represent different regions, but these are of course my own purely subjective thoughts and not meant to be taken seriously!

So I would personally make it G-Max Pikachu, H-Typhlosion, Sceptile, M-Lucario, Greninja, and Lycanroc (who would use a Z-Move).

I gave Ash a H-Typhlosion since I liked the idea of keeping a Hisuian Starter.

My idea was Ash using reserves in the battles but having his main Team as a extended Alola one: Lycanroc will stay with Kukui and he will get his Mega Lucario and Dracovish and Ash will travel back in time to Hisui at some point and his Rowlett would evolve into Hisuian Decidueye. His Melmetal will learn to Gigantamax.

Also during the series we will have various characters challenging Ash for the Alola League Champion title (similar to the games) with some top contenders being Guzma and Kiawe.

As per Giovanni why not give him a Dynamax or G-max Sandaconda. Or as he knows Nanu, let his Nidoking use a Z-move (either Tectonic rage or Acid Dawnpour). Or give him G-max Kingler as he has one (Rocket due used it against Ash). Unless Ash will use G-Kingler at some point (I would really like to see it in action:)).

i just realized i can't count, i created a top 24 not a top 32 lol, i need to think of 8 more trainers from the anime

I also wish it was more than just 8. I'd actually prefer to see a 64 people tournament, consisting of popular characters from the anime and games. I've actually been working on my own 64 people tournament for the World Coronation Series. In my creation, Ash would not have his Journeys team at all, and would instead rely entirely on reserves through the tournament and Journeys as a whole.

In order to qualify for the 64 people tournament, a person would not know their ranking until they are actually called to qualify when the season is over (unlike what actually happened where your rank is shown after you win/lose/draw in a match). All of the characters I picked would be characters who have appeared in either the anime or the games (or both).

The rounds would be as follows:
Top 64 - 2 on 2 (doubles)
Top 32 - 3 on 3
Top 16 - 4 on 4
Top 8, Top 4, Top 2, True Finals - 6 on 6

Leon would only be battleable in the True Finals with his ranking being 0 or just Monarch (so after him you'd have 1-64). Also, you can only use one of Dynamax, ME or a Z-Move, except in the True Finals, where all of them can be used. I've already worked on most of the matchups. I just need to figure out matchups for Top 8, Top 4 and the True Finals, but I do at least know who will be battling whom in those rounds as well as the Pokemon used. It's just harder to think of interesting battles with 6 Pokemon compared to 3 or 4.

Here's my excel sheet for the tournament that I am working on: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FyD-20E7tIC0oPC7V_v1mEhEUS9HnKTkDZFlEHAa-Ho/edit?usp=sharing

As you'll see, a lot of Ash's reserves will get a lot of good limelight. Ash will still have access to ME & Dmax like he does in the actual anime. I brought back tons of popular characters and added in plenty of popular characters that never appeared in the anime. Took some liberties with some of the Pokemon used by some characters, but I tried to keep those reasonable and interesting.

The first tab detailing the participants shows their ranking after the tournament (I don't listen Leon here because he is ranked 0 and I haven't decided if I want Ash to beat him or not). The ranking might seem inconsistent at a glance when looking at the matchups, but it's important to see who a character is losing to if they lose early on, like Wallace. I'm still trying to figure out what their ranks would have been BEFORE the tournament starts and then comparing the two.

Let me know what you guys think!

Cool but why no Ash vs Alain?

I love most of it, really great job!:)

I would just give some more Z-move users or participants from Alola (like -move Guzma etc):)

Also possibly I would add some Hisuian Pokemon (Ursaluna, H-Goodra, H-Starters) and maybe include Ingo who just returned from Hisui.

Also I would switch Ritchie's M-Tyranitar for G-max Butterfree:)

I'm assuming for Ash vs Leon you are waiting for rest of his Team right?

I'm personally hoping for Mr. Rime, Seismitoad and Rhyperior (or Aegislash).

And I think giving Tobias Lugia is an overkill:-D

I made something similar for This type of Tournament for games which you just motivated me to upload:)

I've thought about giving Z-Moves to the other characters, but besides Leon, it just doesn't feel right. I've also considered other Alola characters, but considering how Journeys takes place right after Alola and we already saw Ash beat basically every major character with his Alola squad, I don't see most of those people making it to the Top 64 in a worldwide tournament. I will re-consider and maybe add Kukui or Gladion, but I don't see them getting too far. Again, it is so close to the Manalo Conference, whereas most of the characters I included showed their strength a while ago and would have only gotten stronger.

Hisuian elements are a good idea that I will consider.

Yeah, I might actually substitute Mega Tyranitar for G-Max Butterfree. Maybe G-Max Butterfree and regular Tyranitar for that match.

Correct. I am just waiting to see what they do for Ash VS Leon. Ultimately, I'd like for Leon to use all 3 mechanics in this hypothetical tournament though (doubt he'll do that in the real thing). I think Mr. Rime, Seismitoad & Rhyperior are most likely as well, but I'd definitely like to give him something that can Mega and something with an exclusive Z-Move.

Haha, but isn't a Darkrai bigger overkill? Honestly, I tried to not prioritize any specific generation and wanted his battle against Ash to be Darkrai plus 5 that he doesn't use in earlier rounds.

I'd like to see what you have as well! :)

I thought about doing Ash VS Alain (as well as Ash VS Paul), but decided against those for a number of reasons:

VS Alain: I feel like most people really just care about Ash Greninja VS Mega Charizard X, so it feels repetitive for them to have another full 6 on 6 match, especially since there are other matchups utilizing Alain that I find more interesting, like Alain VS Steven. That being said, I would want Ash & Alain to have a one on one after the tournament concludes (and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if that happens in the actual Journeys anime).

VS Paul: I feel like the rivalry was settled perfectly at the end of DP and while I'd love to see them fight again (especially with Paul using his Lake Acuity Team with Drapion substituted in for Weavile), I just feel like there were more interesting matchups that could happen. Also wanted Cynthia to be the one to beat Paul.

From Alola squad outside Kukui I can see Gladion, Kukui (who started using Z-moves+maybe Mega Evolves his Scizor or gets Mega Pinsir) and maybe Mohm (who was said to be a strong character) or even Dia with his Zeraora.

For Z-moves I see some of the characters naturally suited for ones (like Iris, maybe Wallace or some coordinators) as well as characters with very close bonds with their Pokemon (Cynthia and Kommo-o, maybe Anabel and Snorlax, Mustard and Lycanroc).

I would also consider adding Honey:)

I'm also thinking which Mega would suit Leon. Maybe mega Lopunny or Mega Manectric (to refer Sonia's Yamper) or Mega Banette or Mega Sableye if he won't get Aegislash.

And here's actually my idea (it's rather for a game tournament but we know the game and anime are quite close):

There are basically 4 Tiers of Tournaments:
1. Gym Leader Tier
Includes GLs, Trial Captains, Evil Team admins (e.g. 6 Sages have Teams with Pokemon of the color their name refers to and I made Kalos Scientists as Type specialists) and some other trainers.

2. Elite 4 Tier
This tier includes E4, Kahunas, Evil Team Leaders, Battle Facilities Bosses. In this Tier most characters have either a Mega, G-max or a Minor Legendary (usually Legendary trios etc).

3. Dexholder Tier
A tier including mostly protagonists+Rivals. It excludes Progatonist and Rivals who are also Champions (with some small exceptions like Trace. Some characters here have both a Mega and Giga

4. Champion Tier
A tier consisting of Champions and Champion like characters (like N and Kukui).
In this TIer each character has a Mega, G-max and uses a Z-move.

The Teams are shaken a bit to make them more interesting.

Looking forward to any comments:)

I'll definitely consider Z-Moves!

Lol, I don't know if Honey would be a good idea. Seems like a waste of spot. Maybe she could be someone battled prior to the tournament itself.

I think Mega Lopunny would be a good idea. I'm actually thinking about Mega Diancie for his team!

As mentioned, I speculated that Honey would be someone that could be battled prior to the tournament. That's because I'm thinking that in order to qualify for the tournament, people who enter will have to battle other trainers around the world, basically like Journeys. Obviously, the ranking system will be different because I wouldn't have people know their rank until they are informed that the season is over. I'm still trying to figure out how that would work and who Ash would battle, but I could see him battling even other characters who qualify for the tournament, like how he battled Iris in Journeys and then they both qualified for M8.

I'm actually thinking of having Ash battle Alain in a 1 on 1 this way, potentially as his first match. I just also have to figure out how many battles would be reasonable.

Also, I'm working on figuring out how many episodes the tournament itself would take. I'd like every single battle to be shown in its entirety. Some battles might be quicker than others, but this is what I have so far:

Top 64: 28 episodes
Top 32: 18 episodes
Top 16: 12 episodes
Top 8: 8 episodes (2 per matchup)
Top 4: 6 episodes (3 per matchup)
Top 2: 4 episodes
True Finals: 5 episodes

Totals to a whopping 81 episodes, intentionally one more than the original Kanto journey (apparently Orange Islands technically starts with EP081). This would be a 3 year series, so that leaves about 50-60 episodes leftover. I know 81 episodes is a ridiculously long amount for a tournament, but I would pitch this tournament (and this particular series) as a finale of sorts for Ash, so of course it would have to be a long tournament.

One more idea I find neat would be Ingo giving each of Unova E4 a Hisuian form related to an Unova Pokemon:
H-Zoroark to Shauntel
H-Samurott to Grimsley
H-Braviary to Caitlin
H-Lilligant to Marshall
Male Basculegion matches Alder's hair color while Iris can get a Female one (I like Alder+Iris getting one each), especially since Basculin gets Scale Shot so Basculegion could probably learn it as well.

Also I believe Flint vs Volkner should end with Infernape vs Raichu as it's Volkner true and forgotten Ace...:)

Nevertheless, my Tournament attached few posts above:)

*On Vacation. Go Away!*
Additional trainers if there were 32 spots in no particular order after the Master 8 I’d imagine would be 5-6 generic/CotD type trainers who are mostly fodder for losing, Raihan, Volkner, Clair, Wallace, Juan, Paul, Tobias, AJ from the OS in a surprise appearance, Virgil, Brandon, Bea, Gladion, Olivia, Lorelei/Prima, Agatha (since Ash lost to her and she was pretty strong and Ash was using some of his best Pokémon), Koga, Lucian, Caitlin, and possibly Acerola depending on how many generic trainers there are that are only in the Masters arc to lose. I tried to give spots to the trainers we know are strong and have either beaten Ash and he never had a rematch with and the ones that he had some difficulty defeating. I included AJ since he was the first trainer Ash had met and battled that was extremely strong and had a conflict over training methods and it wouldn’t be too far of a stretched to see him get stronger as he continued his own journey. Seeing him battling Paul would be interesting to see as they are pretty similar in their idea of making their Pokémon stronger. Koga is there in reference to his promotion to the Elite Four.
